Heather and I exchanged our updated contacts and I went into the kitchen to see if I could catch Sarah and have a word with her, however, when I saw Hana packing up her workstation I made a beeline to her as I remembered what I came here for. I mean I did come all this way to congratulate her, so I might as well.
I walked over and clapped Hana on the back.
"Chris! How are you? Longtime no see!" Hanna said and gave me a friendly hug.
"Yeah, it's been crazy working at the hotel, however, I hear things are getting crazier for you. Jessica told me that you proposed?" I beamed " Congratulations"
Hanna smiled and clasped her hands together. The gesture reminded me of Jessica, which was just so cute, I guess when you spend a lot of time with another person, certain behaviours start to rub off on you.
"Thank you so much! Jessica and I are hoping to be able to use the event space here, but Ruby is so stubborn, and I can't seem to catch Heather in time to ask her. Do you think you can put in a good word for me? We aren't able to afford much, so it would be great if we could have this space for our commitment ceremony" Hana asked.
"Of course, consider it done. I will put in a word with Heather, and I'm sure she will be delighted to accommodate your big day" I smiled.
Hana and I spoke for a while and she gave me a box of new pastries her station had been working on for tomorrow's menu. Some of the tarts had strawberries with white chocolate drizzle on them so I knew Sarah would love those ones.
I went back to the main area to grab the flowers, however through the window, I saw Sarah get into the back of Heather's car. I could see Amber was already inside, so it wasn't that it was just Sarah and Heather alone, however seeing someone else driving Sarah somewhere, made my heart feel tight.
My car was a few blocks away. I knew I could have texted her and let her know if she waited, I could drive her back, but at the moment, I just stood there staring as Sarah slipped elegantly into the car, and closed the passenger door.
Just as I was about to look away and pick up the bag of flowers, Sarah looked back at the café, and our eyes locked for a second. She smiled and as the car pulled away, she made a small wave gesture, and I couldn't help but smile at how cute she was.
I felt my happiness meter go up a little bit again. I mean she was going home, all I needed to go was go home too, Did it really matter how she got there? All that mattered was that she would be there, waiting, for me.
