Chapter 19: Selecting Pokémon Eggs

Yuga followed Director Mond to the back door of the Day Care Center and entered the backyard.

The backyard was the largest area of the Day Care Center, and this was one of the main reasons why it was located in the suburbs.

Upon entering the backyard, Yuga saw young Pokémon frolicking around.

There were Poochyena chasing and playing on the grass, Lotad swimming and splashing in the pool, and Seedot hopping around on the trees, creating a lively scene.

These were all native Pokémon, and Yuga didn't spot any from other regions. Additionally, there were no starters, Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip, which were the most famous local Pokémon known as the "Hoenn trio."

"Director Mond, don't you have the Hoenn trio here at the Day Care Center?"

Yuga felt puzzled, so he decided to ask.

Director Mond heard Yuga question and smiled wryly:

"You're new to this field, so you might not know yet. Day Care Centers are also divided into different tiers.

Small-scale Day Care Centers like ours aren't qualified to obtain the Hoenn trio.

Only the larger Day Care Centers have the privilege to sell such rare Pokémon as the Hoenn trio.

Most of these larger Day Care Centers are concentrated in big cities like Slateport, Petalburg, and Lilycove.

The Pokémon and eggs we have here at small-town Day Care Centers are mostly leftovers from the selections made by those larger research-based facilities."

"I see."

Yuga hadn't anticipated that there would be such intricacies even within subsidiary organizations of the League. It seemed wherever there were people, there would be struggles.

This also strengthened Yuga determination to build his own Ecopark. He couldn't rely on others to provide him with rare Pokémon; otherwise, his Day Care might take a long time to grow and expand.

While Yuga was lost in thought, Director Mond spoke again:

"The Hoenn trio are special Pokémon under the League regulation. Breeding and propagation methods unique to the League are used, and their qualifications generally reach the Green level.

Wild-caught Pokémon by other trainers don't count. The number of Hoenn trio Pokémon that Day Care Centers affiliated with the League can obtain is limited. Small-scale Day Care Centers like ours naturally won't have the chance to deal with them."

As Director Mond spoke, he led Yuga to the entrance of a room and pointed to the warehouse, introducing it to Yuga:

"This is where we store the Pokémon Eggs. Come, let's go inside."

Saying that, Director Mond pushed open the warehouse door.

Once inside, Yuga saw rows upon rows of shelves, neatly arranged with colorful Pokémon Eggs.

"Look, these Pokémon Eggs are stored according to their pre-evaluated qualifications. From the red qualification on this side to the green qualification on the other."

Director Mond pointed at the rows of Pokémon Eggs and introduced them to Yuga.

"But your parents never went for anything below a green qualification. I don't know how you plan to choose."

After thinking for a moment, Yuga said, "For our Day Care, I've decided to only bring in Pokémon Eggs with a yellow qualification or higher."

Director Mond was quite surprised by Yuga decision and said, "You should think it through. Only bringing in Pokémon Eggs with a yellow qualification or higher will increase costs and the associated risks as well.

This time, due to the compensation, we can waive the fees for you, but next time, you'll have to cover the costs yourself."

Yuga affirmed, "I've thought it through."

Yuga had already decided that his Day Care would focus on building a good reputation. Therefore, he wouldn't bring in low-qualification Pokémon Eggs.

After all, wild Pokémon with red and orange qualifications were the most common in the wilderness.

The advantage of Pokémon Eggs was that newly hatched Pokémon were easier to develop a bond with. Additionally, some people didn't have Pokémon of their own, making it necessary to buy Pokémon Eggs or young Pokémon.

In addition, Pokémon Eggs with red and orange qualifications didn't hold a competitive advantage. The Pokémon hatched from these eggs could only serve as pets for ordinary people.

For trainers, the minimum standard for selecting Pokémon was a yellow qualification.

Director Mond led Yuga to the shelf with eggs of yellow qualification, pointing at the categorized eggs and saying:

"We don't have many egg varieties. They are all native Hoenn Pokémon. Take a look—here are Poochyena, Lotad, Seedot, Taillow, Skitty, Shroomish, Surkrit, Azuril, and Corphish.

These are all the varieties we have."

Yuga moved around the Pokémon Eggs, activating his Ability Insight skill. A yellow light emitted from each egg, indicating that the Day Care Center qualification assessment was accurate.

After pondering for a moment, Yuga decided to take several of each variety. He took 15 of Skitty and Shroomish eggs each, and 10 of the others, making a total of exactly 100 eggs.

These Pokémon seemed quite decent, and it was likely that the Day Care Center had considered many factors when restocking.

Poochyena, Lotad, Seedot, Taillow, Shroomish, and Corphish were more favored by traditional trainers.

Skitty, Azuril, and Surkrit were favored by coordinators.

Among them, Shroomish evolved form, Breloom, was particularly popular among traditional trainers.

Skitty and its evolved form, Delcatty, were most favored by coordinators.

That's why Yuga selected 5 eggs each of these two varieties.

When Yuga chose the Pokémon Eggs, he used his Ability Insight skill to gauge their brightness, as a brighter glow indicated better qualifications.

Even when Yuga evaluated the Pokémon qualifications, they emitted light under his Ability Insight skill. Under the same color, a brighter light indicated better qualifications.

For example, Yuga Floette had a light green qualification, indicating that its qualifications were relatively low in the green category.

Absol was medium-green, representing its average qualifications within the green category.

After spending a good while, Yuga finally selected the required Pokémon Eggs.

Director Mond had someone set aside all the eggs Yuga had chosen.

After finishing selecting the eggs, Yuga said to Director Mond:

"Director Mond, may I take a look at the Pokémon Eggs with green qualifications?"

Of course, Director Mond didn't object and said with a smile, "Sure, you can look, but if you're interested, you'll have to pay for them yourself."

Yuga also smiled and said, "Naturally."
