Chapter 15

Title: The Only Way...

….

I look at Machi as she grabs her food, I am a little shocked at this. I can see, she is using Ten to keep her Aura from leaking. How did she learn it? Did she meet the future Phantom Troupe, or was she awakened by getting forcefully initiated to Nen, by getting hit by a Nen attack, or something like that? Both possibilities are probable, I know that she could have been hit by a Nen attack while attempting the assassination of a Meteor City Elder. If she survived that attack she definitely would have tried to escape, Machi isn't someone who fights a losing battle.

Then spent the rest of the time learning how to control her Nen and went back to assassinate the Elder After that? After all, without killing all of her assassination targets she wouldn't be able to return to the organization.

I immediately go towards her and as I do so I notice her give me a side-glance and immediately get up and walk away.

What? Why would she do that?... immediately I look around and don't notice anything special.

'Hmmmm… is she mad at me or something?' I contemplate options like that.

But no, that is not at all like her at all, then something is going on that I don't know about. 

My mind goes through the many possibilities, but in the end, I come up with almost nothing. But I do have a possible answer, it seems like the Crimson Hand Organization is involved. But why? 

I take my huge amount of food and go towards one of the tables, sitting down. 

What is going on here? I carefully observe everyone around here. Something is going on here.

Hmmm… then I better go train, I can see her later again.

At dinner, I see Machi again and our eyes connect for a split second. She sees the look that I have on my face and gives a small nod, signifying that something that I don't know about is going on.

"Yo Sub, whatcha doing?" I hear someone call over from behind me. I turn around and see that it was Karla, she had some of her favorite food on her tray. 

I smile at her slightly and answer. "Nothing, just about to go and eat some of this delicious food. Wanna come with me, Karla?"

She nods her head seemingly pleased, her dark eyes widened in joy. She is childish sometimes, she seems to have become attached to me. Well, that is good, having someone to watch my back is a good thing in this world.

Anyway, now that it has been confirmed that someone, probably the Organization is stopping Machi from having contact with me. But why, could it be that I have been showing too much talent lately and they didn't want her to slow me down. Or maybe they don't want me to develop some emotional connection with her… that is probably it. If I was them, I too would wanna keep someone like me, who shows talent, Ibwould wanna keep someone like that all to myself. Though my so-called talent comes mostly from me working harder and smarter.

Anyway, that is unimportant, as currently, I plan to start training another Advanced Nen technique. Since this one takes so much Aura to keep active, I waited till now to start learning it.

I gulf down the food and think more about how to train this technique more efficiently.

The technique is called Ken and it is the advanced version of the basic Ren and Ten techniques. It is a primarily defensive technique where a Nen user maintains a state of Ren for a prolonged amount of time. The amount of aura surrounding the user's body during Ken is about 10 times higher than during Ten. Ken allows a Nen user to guard against attacks from any direction, but a large amount of aura produced makes it tiring to maintain. 

But that isn't all, I also have a new idea on how to use it together with my Hatsu Ability. My Hatsu allows my Aura to gain the properties of both Dirt and Rock, meaning my aura can be soft or hard. Now combining my Ken together with my Nen having the hard properties of Rock, it will make my defense quite powerful.

Especially since my aura only has the hard properties of rock and it can grow stronger, like Hisoka's Bungee Gum, the properties of gum on his Nen are better than normal gum…

"So Sub, what do you plan to do after you become ten years old." Asks Karla, bringing me out of my thoughts. I look at her and see that her concentration is all on me. 

Immediately as soon as she asked that, I understood that something is up. Karla would never ask something like that, and I can feel her hand twisting my finger a little. I see, so the Organization is also asking her to figure out what I wanna do after this. Hmmm… I see now. 

In the end, I don't express anything to Karla and just smile at her. "Well, I am planning to stay with the Organization."

Karla nods at this and goes back to eating. But as she eats, I notice that she gives me an unnoticeable nod. I don't say anything anymore and go back to eating. My mood is a little soured now. It seems like the organization is unwilling to let me go. That isn't nice of them… not nice at all…

I lost at the meat in front of me and I stab it with my fork and eat it. Well now… there is only one way this can go now.

After I finish my food, I give Karla one last look and ask her. "Karla… are you with me?"

Karla seemed startled by the question and looked around if anyone heard us, when she saw the people around us not paying attention, she looked back at me with a panicked look on her face… but I still look at her in the eyes, expressing the seriousness of this question of mine.

In the end, she looks down and answers with a meek. "Yes."

I nod at this and give her a pat on the shoulder as I walk away.

When I arrive at my room I look at the hidden cameras around me. I don't do anything else I just and just lie down on my bed after I turn off the lights. I also cover myself with a blanket and stop the cameras from looking at what I do. I slowly dig my hand on my bed, piercing it and touching an object.

I pull it out and… it is a kitchen knife. More specifically, the kitchen knife that I took from my first orphanage, it was a little rusty and dull, but it doesn't matter. This will be… useful to me for tonight.

-Machi POV-

After trying to express to Sub that something is going on. I took my dinner back to my room to eat. 

The Organization might have its headquarters here but its spy channel is all over Meteor City. That is how they gather most of the new children into their organization. Also, they somehow know that I have made some friends on the outside, Chrollo, Uvo, Feitan, Pakunoda, and Nubunaga. A group of friends that will help me and I will help them. They saved my life as I was bleeding out from the Elder Assassination mission, I didn't even meet the elder and was shot by a sniper. I knew nothing about Nen back then, so I just escaped and thankfully met them or else there is a high chance that I would have bled out due to the many bullet holes that I had been riddled with.

If I keep training Nen and with their help, soon they should also become strong enough to be able to take on the Crimson Hand Organization, and then Sub can be free.

Suddenly I hear three gunshots and immediately I am on full alert.

What just happened?! What is going on?!!
