Nine months had passed and Hariric could say that it had been nine incredible months. The first point is that thanks to his magic based on enchantment he had achieved many workers. People who wanted a new beginning. This had led many people to come to the north to work on several important points.
The first to be noticed were the gold mines of the Stark house. The first thing was to build the mining base or fortress that was based on Minas Tirith, an imposing and powerful fortress obviously designed for local workers, although of course that at the same time had meant completely reinventing Winter Town.
If the powerful fortress that was Winterfell was impressive Winter Town was clearly the right place. Completely surrounding Winterfell with a powerful wall and several towers for its Defence. The city was made with a Greco-Roman style and at the same time had a good drainage system which meant not smelling like shit.
The city was divided into four sectors: Leisure (basically taverns where you can drink, brothels and casinos), workplaces (from the newest blacksmiths in the North to, for example, the glass production of the Stark house, the newest glass gardens and liquor stores), housing and finally the forest area or as Hariric called it a natural area.
While it is true that nine months was a very quick time to build Hariric had once again cheated with his Umbra. His Umbra had been distributed between Winter Town and the Winter Meum. This had meant faster and more efficient work that had meant that in six months the mines would be finished and soon taking out gold and their happy workers spending their money.
Fortunately, he was already in the process of creating a bank more than anything because he wanted his people to have a suitable place to deposit their newly earned wealth and at the same time not lose their money.
After that hariric made the acquisition of the lands of Sea Dragon point and at the same time of the Stony Coast. One went more or less well. The Mormont agreed with the idea that the lands of Sea Dragon Point would be used even more when it was reported that there it would become the western port that would be used both as an area of Defence against iron assailants and a form of trade with the West. The Glovers unfortunately were not happy and had already launched two attacks that had ended badly with all the soldiers sent dead and more than one letter from their father to the Glovers.
Unfortunately, the Costa Pedregosa was a very different matter. The Ryswell house had tried to extort and do everything in its power. They had tried to prevent the beginning of the construction of what Hariric called the Winter Fortress that would be in a nutshell destined to create a fortress that would allow the Defence of the reinforced West Coast along with Black Wolf Port in what was Sea Dragon Point.
The Ryswells thought they could get away with it until it was made clear to them that if they even tried then that would mean the end of the house. His father Rickard had looked impressed that his son was more Stark than anyone could imagine being known by many even today as the Black Winter Wolf of the North.
Hariric didn't give a shit about the renown they gave him or anything like that. The only thing that had mattered to him was to start making the North the super power that it was. Thanks to the Obelisks, the climate and the land were better, which had meant an increase in farms produced in the north. Added to this was the point that Hariric had supplied the necessary elements for the production of food. The Dustin and Umber houses had felt more than anything satisfied with their actions together with the Tallhart house.
With this he had begun his new operation or rather the beginning of this: the distilleries. With wine being the only apparent form of alcohol hariric had felt a market that they could easily exploit. Sake could be taken from the houses of the gentlemen of the neck who were producing tons of rice. Sake was an incredibly powerful drink actually.
From the Umber and their potato fields he would get in a few words the Vodka that was so appreciated by everyone that he knew. The Beer would come out of the Dustins since they had the largest wheat fields that was excellent for their production and also using a more advanced system would be a much more efficient process. While the Whisky would come from the Tallharts.
He was not a greedy person and he was already working on a contract. Hariric would buy the necessary equivalent of the food product that would be needed from those families and in exchange instead of paying them for the price of what was the food request he would pay them with a third of the money produced by the sale of alcohol.
It was still much more than they would earn from the sale of food and that without counting that houses like the Tallhart's were producing the largest amount of iron that was used in the North at this time so it was a great gain for everyone.
That led him to think of the Neutral houses directed nothing more and nothing less than the Karstark house. Unlike the other cadet families (and that it is known that the Stark house had had many more than what appeared in the history documents) the Karstarks were much more intelligent.
It was quite obvious that they had three plans. The number one plan was obviously to wait for the fight between the winter alliance and the red alliance and once the war was clearly decided to help the winning side to finish the matter.
The other possible plan was to wait until both alliances fought and end both once they ended due to the fact that they would be very weak. Once again an intelligent plan, however that plan completely went down the drain when hariric was born here. With him here it was quite obvious that the houses of the Winter Alliance were stronger and more powerful than ever and that was only after a few months so as it was natural soon they would soon be stronger and more powerful.
The next point was to stay without doing anything. It was not the best plan but if they were left without doing anything they could claim that they did not want to get involved in matters that did not concern them. That was a policy that he could respect if only for the fact that they obviously did not want to stain the blood of former allies and other things.
Unfortunately for them as it looked anyway at least in the mind of hariric that would not happen. The Boltons would not tolerate it and if it were possible he could exploit him to naturally put things on his side at least that's what he thought in this sense that it was much more than anyone could actually imagine.
However, as always, there were ways to get someone on your side. The Karstark house was an important plan. They had one of the largest forests. And thanks to its magic it would be possible to use it to produce the wood so brutally necessary for the formation of the Eastern fleet. That would give the Karstark house a lot of new money of course.
Not to mention that their lands were excellent for other farming systems, which would naturally mean that the Karstark house would be considerably strengthened by their actions.
However, any thoughts he had about it were focussed on his little brother Ned who was there. At the age of eight, Eddard Stark, although he liked to be called Ned, was not what many would call a normal child.
Ned was in short a good boy who followed him everywhere. That should say a lot about how Ned was actually attached to him. Since he could remember he had helped Ned in every sense of the word. He was his little brother after all. And it was the quietest between him and his sister Lyanna who was a wild little thing.
"You know you don't need to be here, little brother. You could be with Dareon right now or enjoying a moment with Willem and Jon. Both of them see you as their own younger brother and I can stay here perfectly controlled the state of breast as is my duty''. Hariric sighs. His little brother refused to get away from his side in every possible way and more at this moment.
When her mother had gone into labour, she had been brought in immediately. It had been lucky although Hariric had certain fears and concerns.
"I'm a Stark. My duty is to be with my family above all else. Leaving my family alone in the moment of need would be more than bad in reality not to say that it would be a more than bad action since I know that you have more projects to work on of all things than being here guarding like a wolf''. Ned was clear about one point and that is that his brother was possibly one of the most important figures in the North.
"However, you are just a child Ned. I don't want to offend but you should be calmer in other things if you know what I mean. I know and I am perfectly aware that in reality little brother you are trembling for what it is to be here of all things''. Hariric sighs. His little brother was too good a person. It was lucky that he was not the future ruler of the north.
"No. I don't want to get away from mom and even less from you when I'm perfectly aware that something else is happening. You're nervous, brother. There is something you know that you are afraid of happening. If we are together we will be able to do much more than if we are divided. The lone wolf dies but the one who is in a pack survives the winter and winter always comes.'' Ned spoke with such devotion that it was surprising to hear although at the same time it could be said frankly that it was the most normal thing in the little boy.
"Good words and well said little puppy. I won't really deny it. There are things that make me nervous. The birth is a month earlier than expected and if there is something that I know is that the truth is told is that most premature children end up dying. It is said that Princess Elia Martell, although she has survived, is very weak. I fear for our little brother''. Hariric had heard of Elia Martell's problems with the information network created by the Reeds.
"And you fear that mom will lose the child she is bringing into the world and you want to be here to give him all your necessary support to make sure by all means that there is no problem with him. If I'm honest, brother, I think I'm very lucky to have you as a brother. You're always worried about all of us.'' Ned had no other words to describe his brother.
'Little brother, listen to my words and listen to them carefully. A storm could come. An army could come. The same white walkers could come. But as long as I have a single drop of blood in my body there will be no force in this world that is capable of making me not be able to take care of my brothers so you know. Neither now nor ever. Nothing will stop me from protecting my family''. Hariric almost growled what he had to say, however he calmed down about it. He was very possessive. His family.
"Hey, just so you know, I'm not a simple child you can take care of. One day I will grow up and become a man. I will be a great man who will bring a lot of honour to the Stark family and that nothing and no one can say for anything in the world but how great we are''. Ned growled. I hated being treated like a baby.
''Ned the world is a harder and crueller place than you could actually imagine. I'm not taking too much care of you because I feel like you can't defend yourself in the future. But right now it's better to be taking care of yourself than letting a worthless bastard think he can still put a hand on you. It will always be like this''. Hariric growled. For some time he had already intercepted an assassination attempt against ned. The assailant had died although not without first knowing who was responsible. The Boltons would learn not soon that it was a considerable mistake to piss off a wolf.
"But if I'm not able to take care of myself, how will I be able to grow? You always say it. That tying a person's hands will mean that this person will not be able to grow and therefore will mean that a person will be unable to fulfil their goals since they will be used to being carried and guided by many other people. Ned looked at his brother confused because he honestly didn't know what else to do about it and he felt strange.
"It's not a bad opinion, right? Well thought out. If someone shakes your hand and guides you, that will prevent you from thinking and reasoning for yourself. Always remember that no one guides you. You're a wolf. You look forward. The herd is to support itself above all. To give themselves warmth. To hunt. Especially to cover each other's backs. There's nothing else''. Hariric smiled amused. His brother was really interesting.
"However, although it is true that you are an incredibly mature and intelligent young man, in the end you will always and forever be my little brother Ned. My obligation as an older brother is to protect you above all. You. Lyanna And even the little one who is about to arrive in this world. It's my obligation and nothing will change me about it''. Hariric sighs. He could see his brother grimacing at it.
"Well, I guess if you put it that way. Anyway, Hariric had a question, it's a little about the matter that I'm going to the Valley. Why is this happening? Have I bothered father and mother in any way? Have I discouraged them for not being as smart as you?''. Ned looked down at the ground naturally fearing anything that could be said. However, his brother's arm is placed on his shoulder and when he looked up he found fury. Not against him.
"No. In the least, never think that it was you. Never think you've done something. Never think or believe that for some reason you are responsible for something like that. Ned. You're a growing child. I am me. You are you. You shouldn't expect to become a replica of me. You must be yourself. Forever and ever it's that simple little brother''. Hariric growled. If there was something he had hated, it was when he was told about Jon Arryn's desire to welcome Ned to clearly establish ties between the valley and the Stark House. The fact that the crown went right in had been another blow to the Stark house.
"I...thank you, brother. But it still feels that way. It feels like I'm going to stop being a Stark. I'm being taken out of the family after all. I'm sorry, brother. I'm sorry to have worried you, but why is this happening? Why am I being taken out of my home and sent to the valley? The history of the North with the Valley is mainly not really good at all.'' Ned shuddered. Unlike Master Wallys, his brother's lessons were always stronger. I make it clear that the Stark house was not an honourable and pleasant house. They were wolves.
"It's not that none of us is happy with that action Ned. Mother and father were much less happy with the fact that you had to be sent from all things to the south. Especially to the valley. I could have accepted the stormlands. The Baratheon, although in part of Valyria blood, are not imbeciles who believe in honour and therefore they are not idiots''. Hariric's opinion of the leaders of the Arryn valley is that they were a bunch of imbeciles who believed or thought about it that being or at least having honour was better than being without honour.
"But why then? Father is Lord Stark. It's the lord of the North. Why would the king even dare to think that it's a good idea of all things to cause him a nuisance like that? It would be like sticking a kind of stake in an important part of the Stark family. The pain will be there. The affront will be there and no one will forget it in any of the ways''. Ned couldn't understand. Why would the king do such things?
"I see that you are reading a lot about the books I gave you. Well done. Ned, we are going to start a new lesson that I am sure is more than necessary in the teaching material for your future. First point, let's explain in a few words what is happening here. Why do you think the king is doing this? Think About It. Reason and try to understand why reason you think he does it don't say the first thing that comes to your mind''. The best way to teach was not to show the method of doing things but to make a person think things.
"Well, the king would win... I don't know what he would win. That is to say, in addition to pissing off the north and making the valley obe him a favour since he is getting into the affairs of the North. If you stop to think about it, the king is not exactly gaining anything with this''. Ned looked at his brother without understanding. Why would the king do something that didn't give him a direct gain? It was so nonsense that I couldn't understand it. To his surprise, his brother laughed amused.
''You've thought well. The King wins nothing. Or rather, he earns something in his opinion. Aerys Second. The king that many consider the most ambitious of the entire Targaryen house without counting on Aegon the conqueror. Well thought out that supposedly he doesn't win anything but the harsh reality is that if he seeks to win something: renown. Everyone likes the idea of being remembered. Everyone likes the idea of being seen and remembered by the times. And that's what Aerys is looking for. Hariric had obtained many reports from Aerys. A man known in a few words as an ambitious leader.
"Well, if the king doesn't win anything, you must be wondering. What is this renown that he wins? Very simple. It is well known that although it is true that the North is united to the seven kingdoms, it has an immense dislike with the South. This comes from the policy of exploiting the lands of the rivers and well the way the southerners see us. Whether you like it or not, it is the brutal case that this has caused a discomfort between North and South''. Harirc mocked. There was no mistake. The southerners had an opinion of the north and vice versa. For the south the north was uncivilised because they were direct. For the north, the south was a nest of vipers because if you don't realise they will stab you in the back.
"So they expect that by sending me to the Valley I will grow a union between the north and the south, however, why the valley? I understand that the Baratheon house is related to the Targaryen house. Wouldn't it be smarter to send me to raise with the house that is obviously family? That's at least what I would do.'' Ned couldn't understand the thought process.
''Well thought out ned. Very well thought out. You have shown that you have more brains than many in that opinion alone. The answer is quite easy. Jon Arryn is not only educating you but Robert Baratheon who is in a few words the heir to the lands of the storm. Jon Arryn has really been an intelligent man if I have to say it''. Although the fact that he was intelligent did not mean much in Hariric's opinion.
''What do you mean by intelligent? When master Wallys talks about the Arryns, he refers to them as the noblest knights, however, well, you don't seem to have the highest opinion of them, is it because the Valley and the North have disagreements of some kind?''. Ned looked at his brother obviously looking for more information.
"Since you're using your head much more than expected, I guess I'll have to give you the right words. Ned will be frank, he distrusted the south a lot. In the south a game is played: the Game of Thrones. It is politics in its wildest state where people are used. People are taken advantage of and manipulated to maneuver them and in this way obtain the clear satisfaction of superiority. If I have to be honest, I don't like the south in the least just for that point''. Honestly, the south did not even reach the soles of the heels of the magical policy since the magicians were much more terrifying if he had to be frank.
"You fear that they are somehow thinking about using me, don't you? You think that the south is thinking of creating an alliance of need between the north and some families to exploit us in some way and thus make a benefit''. Ned could be a child but with his brother's way of being he had learned to think that it was in his brother's opinion important.
"Good. You've thought about what's really good about it. My fear and I think it's a healthy fear is that they try to use you somehow to get to the north. You're the second child. You're my little brother. And I fear in many ways that they have tried well to make you think in the same way as them to be able to use you against us''. It didn't make sense to hide from his brother what he thought.
"You are not afraid of what they want to do but you are afraid of what they will want to do to me. That's why you're against the Valley, that's why you're angry with Arryn's house. Because instead of leaving me alone in no way and letting me be a child they are trying to make me a pawn of this so-called game of thrones with the intention of reaching the North''. Ned couldn't believe it. The more I thought about it, the more I could see it. And the more I thought about it, the more he agreed with his brother.
"And that's where you see where my problem is, dear brother. I don't really care what they try to do to me. I don't care much if they send murderers after me. But my family is being threatened and that doesn't make me happy. That infuriates me in the worst way and there is nothing I want more than to put in their place the bastards who think they can play the game this way''. In his opinion there were limits. There were rules. But since Jon Arryn had so kindly thought of sending the rules and norms to hell, he would do this himself.
"But the reputation of the Arryns will be tarnished by these actions. I mean, they would be seen as manipulative and clearly trying to use the people of the North in some way. Why the hell would people let them be like that of all things?''. Ned couldn't believe it. I couldn't understand it. Why would the other kingdoms let it be like that?
"First you have to prove it. It must be shown that Jon Arryn is trying to maneuver things to create a powerful alliance between the houses Baratheon, Arryn and Stark. Of course, any other noble house in the south would see it well. Alliances give power. They don't see it in the same way as us but what is reprehensible is what is necessary to build that alliance if you stop to think about it''. Hariric knew it. Ned would only be a pawn. Its mission was to be converted into the tool for Jon Arryn to turn the North into his cause and if he failed then those who opposed each other in the shadows would be eliminated and place a loyal person who in this case would be Ned.
"Because it is the construction of an alliance that is seeking to bring the North to the south on the one hand and strengthen the eastern side on the other hand, the king would be relieved thinking that it is clearly a job on his part. Don't focus on seeing any other negative point. He will only think of it as a good thing that he has been able to build.'' Ned was clearly surprised and at the same time impressed with his brother.
''Indeed. In the end, the matter is that the king would not realise that a powerful alliance would have been created, three of the seven great houses in alliance? It would be scary to have it in front of me. Once it is obviously known that the North has more and more resources, don't you think that more houses from the south will arrive and try something? The question is how long we can hide our achievements. Unfortunately, if Jon Arryn gets his way, you would become the pawn to be the key to the north to the valley''. Because that's what would happen.
'Because I will be the one who can convince you. I will be the key to make the lords of the Valley have access to you and the North. That's what Jon Arryn wants in these times. He wants to use me to get to the north and have access to everything the North has to offer. He has no interest in mending the fights between first men and Andalusians''. Ned practically growled. He could be the quietest of the wolves but he was still a wolf.
"You've noticed, brother. That's Jon Arryn's plan. Your interest. His mission. He wants to turn the Stark house into little more than a puppet. It would be the definitive revenge. The valley. The great Andalusians who are said to be descended from the legendary seven-star Argo, the greatest of the Andalusian kings who was shot down by Theon the hungry wolf. Whether you like it or not, but there is a war between the valley and the Northerners who have not forgotten. Hariric growled. The war I intended to win.
"And that's why you're so unhappy. You don't like the idea that our house is being used by anything or anyone. You hate him and despise him for it but on top of that it is because he is putting me in the middle of the whole thing and clearly using me as a tool in his so-called plan''. Ned now understood his brother much better.
"Good. You got it. Jon Arryn had thought about all the things he was getting away with. However, I'm going to make things clear. Jon Arryn may have managed to put the king on his side but there are always ways to break such plans''. Hariric sighed knowing clearly that there were always obvious solutions to what the actions were.
Although Jon Arryn had done this and had earned a pupil, he had unfortunately forgotten that there was nothing that said that hariric could not mark a protection band for Ned and what is more important a group that was teaching him about Northern values. Jon Arryn could teach him to be a lord but he could never be able to teach him to be a Stark after all.
"It's hard for me to believe brother that you can or have the means to contain Jon Arryn. That is to say that the man will surely have prepared for everything and will try to appeal that you are possibly getting fully into the affairs of the Arryn house''. Ned could see Arryn's plans clearly claiming in some way that they were getting fully involved in education.
"If it is possible, Jon Arryn is forgetting that in each guardianship you must always accept an escort and guard, could Jon Arryn really think that we would not use that for our purpose? And in addition to that there is another more remarkable point that Jon Arryn has forgotten and that is that we can use the previous actions of Arryn's house to clearly destroy any thoughts they have about it''. If there was one good thing about the story, it was that it could be used perfectly to destroy the best plans plotted.
"You mean the event that meant the death of Ana Stark later and she married Lord Ronnel Arryn who was going to be the last king of the mountain, isn't it? It was a marriage ordered by the Targaryen house in an attempt to unite the Stark house to the south but as the Targaryens did not see any sense in putting themselves in the same situation in the end I mean in a few words that she married two blood enemies and Anna Stark was found shortly after dead with her unborn son also by a poison''. Ned spoke in a low voice. That was one of the darkest things in the Stark house and a memory widely used by the Stark house to remember that they should not trust the Arryns.
"The blindness of the Arryn house in their desire to remain as pure as they themselves referred to themselves was made neither more nor less to avoid putting the blood of the first men in their beautiful Andala blood." The Arryns were racists despising the first men. There was a reason why he didn't like them. That and also Hariric felt that if everything went according to Jon Arryn's plans, many unpleasant things would happen to the Stark house.
"Why doesn't master Wallys mention this in his lessons? Wouldn't it be very important to teach in any case? It is a first-line education. It is obviously the history of the Stark house and at the same time the importance of what the future of the house means.'' Ned couldn't understand that in his young mind. What reason did the master have to get into the history of the Stark house?
''You asked a smart question ned. The harsh reality is that Wallys doesn't want to. How do you think southerners see the past? The Stark house is the only house that not only endures but supports the powerful Andalusians. Even the powerful Targaryen house was forced to adapt to the rules of the Andalusians at the end of the day. It doesn't matter how the case in question looked about it is that we are a threat. That's why they want to destroy the history of the Stark house.'' In fact, Hariric had obtained hundreds of history books not only from the hands of the Stark family but also from many other houses in possession of the masters who explained the history of the Stark house in the best possible way and did not paint them as such honourable people.
"The truth brother is that the Stark house doesn't care about the so-called Game of Thrones. For us, the Game of Thrones is a waste of time. What can we win? What are we looking for? Nothing. The south has nothing to do with interest and soon we will leave them even more behind. However, the North is of value for the South. We are the last conquest. Those who have not really bent.'' Hariric sneered. The southerners could think they had everything under control but it wasn't so true.
"And that's why they love me. I'm the key to the North. Jon Arryn hopes to become his little plant in the north. As the brother of the Stark house to see me in a privileged position and if something happened to you it would be the lord of the Stark house so it would be the most natural thing for someone to plot against you, isn't it brother?''. Ned shuddered. Such a way of thinking, could people really be so cruel?
"Yes. Jon Arryn hopes that like my brother he will give you a lever. Let you move as you want and in the end you would create your own faction in the North. In the end there are people who are upset. There are people who want more and if you prove to be the door to that something more they will be eager to throw themselves behind you what would force me. But if for some reason something happened to me, it would be in a nutshell the lord of the Starks''. Hariric would have said more but at that moment the doors opened with his father leaving the room with a small baby in his hands and with a smile from ear to ear of the pure happiness he felt at that moment.
Hariric looked at his brother with an equally big smile while Ned approached calmly. In the corner of the room there was a not so happy person who was neither more nor less than the master himself.
The man was behind. He didn't know but Hariric had been supplying his mother with a dose of phoenix tears along with bezoar powder since he had begun to see in her the symptoms of a poison that would have caused an internal haemorrhage when giving birth.
The boy and she would have died. Hariric could not allow it in the slightest so here he was saving his mother. But his greyish green eyes never lost sight of the master since it was clear to him what he wanted to do.
-Tower of Knowledge-
Wallys Flowers from the Hightower house was not a happy man. It was nothing but nothing happy. Everything started well. His plans to move Lord Stark slowly to what was the control of the southern people.
It was not a difficult task at least in principle. But Rickard Stark was more than an idiot wolf. He was intelligent and saw many of his tactics as attempts to introduce southern affairs into the north, which he completely refused.
Wallys, however, renounced them only by sending messages to his comrades. In this regard, tension began to be forged with the lords of the rivers who were the ones who provided the largest amount of food in the North. With that he would slowly put Lord Stark between a rock and a hard place.
I would have preferred a girl from the domain. They were more intelligent and were educated from children to play the game. To manipulate the situation to their advantage. In exploiting men who are too stupid to realise what was going on.
There was no better example in reality than Olena Redwyne or as she was now called the Pry Rose of Highgarden. So intelligent woman. Honestly, she was very dangerous if he had to say it, but well.
In the end he had to put a girl from the rivers at least that made him happy. Hoster Tully was an ambitious politician who wanted above all to gain influence in his home. It was no secret that many thought of the Tully house as a worthless house.
However, everything went down when Hariric Stark was born. The child is not that he was intelligent but the following. The plan to encourage him to go to what was the Citadel to learn had two objectives. Keep him away from the North and at the same time build a bad reputation by making him look like a child raised in the south. If at the same time for some reason they could kill him better than better.
But not even three years later he returned to the north as a totally identical person. He took two children Rogare with him and began what were the operations that have changed the North in every sense of the word.
He didn't like it. In a short time the Stark boy had solved the problem of the food of the North that was something that had exploded. To top it all off, he discovered an important chain of mountains full of gold.
That was a problem. If the Starks managed to mine the gold it would mean competing with the Lannisters and if you added to that that they could produce their own food unlike the Lannisters it would mean more damage even to the lions. It was a problem.
So he had sent a crow to the citadel. They had warned him to monitor Hariric Stark's passage at all times and, if possible, to look for a way to weaken the situation.
That's what I had done right away. As a faithful servant of the citadel. But years had passed and I had achieved nothing. His attempts to sabotage what the mines were ended badly. Hariric Stark took charge of the education of the young Eddard Stark teaching him to be a true Stark something more than terrifying in his opinion (they didn't want any of the great Starks back) and as if that wasn't enough, any idea he could have put in Lord Rickard's head went to hell when the man made it clear that they no longer had the same needs of yesteryear.
To make matters worse, the Stark house had started a movement that had basically been dangerous by placing and starting two totally new settlements. One in Sea Dragon point calling the place Black Wolf Port. I had not seen the plans of the port since young Stark protected them and the same of the Winter Fortress on the Pedregosa coast. But if there was one thing that Wallys knew is that they were the touch of Hariric Stark which would mean in a nutshell that it was a more than efficient job. It was an unpleasant reminder that the Stark house was placing itself above all the others.
With that he decided to contact the Bolton house. A flower grew in the areas of the Bolton house. It was a seemingly harmless flower. What no one knew is that when you destroy their petals and put them in any drink and these are consumed in the body they release a toxin that is very dangerous. At such an important time as pregnancy, there was a good chance that he would end up killing the woman.
Desperate times implied desperate measures at least in his personal opinion anyway. He was doing what he knew was the best for the seven kingdoms although he knew that if he was discovered it would be bad but he had full faith that no one would suspect him.
At first everything seemed to be going well. Matriarch Stark was presenting the cases of a sick woman who would slowly fall. When the woman went into labour she would die anyway and then everything would be resolved. Rickard Stark in his pain could be manipulable. Make him see things in a way and put him on the road as a good tool. That had been the plan.
But today Lyarra Stark's birth had gone without any problem and she had given birth to a healthy and strong child which was not part of the plan. The happiness of the Stark house was palpable at that time and that infuriated him in many ways since that meant fewer opportunities for him.
He knew that something had had to happen, had anyone found out about his uses of the poison? I didn't believe it because if there was one thing that was true, it was that the Stark house did not have anyone so well versed in what was the knowledge of poisons.
This was a serious problem that had to be attended to. Possibly the person who saved the matriarch Stark knew at that very moment of him. I knew what I had done. He didn't doubt in the least that if the lords of the Stark house found out about it, they would kill him. No. Killing him would be very sweet and kind. And even more so because he had seen Rickard Stark enraged although the worst was by far his son. Hariric Stark took the laws very seriously and made them comply with strength and power.
Any thought about the boy pissed Wallys off. Hariric Stark was an anomaly. He had brought with him the secret of how to cultivate in the North, which had meant that three of the Stark's allied houses saw their crops grow and therefore be able to feed their people, which was a nuisance.
Hariric Stark brought the secret of the mines of the entire North that was another big problem if he had to be honest since it meant in a few words that the North now had in a nutshell mineral resources that he did not like.
But the worst secret was that he knew much more about architecture than even the best teachers. He had rebuilt Winterfell and many more parts and had given them these sewer systems as well as the drinking water systems that he could not even imagine.
No matter what he thought, the boy made him furious and that's why he decided it was time to change his strategy. Jon Arryn had made a move of his own. The man had clearly thought of promoting the boy Eddard to turn him into his political puppet. Now he had to get rid of Hariric Stark for the good of the seven kingdoms.
This child would launch the North into a new force that would surely turn him into a clear threat to the rest of the big houses. Between the great territorial defences and obviously its ability to produce food that would mean an advantage for the Stark house that he could not allow.
Wallys sigh. He was about to get into his bed, which was another reason for anger since instead of using the same system as the others, he used what was a spring system as hariric Stark had called it. Much more comfortable and better. The best quality blankets thanks to their work. It didn't matter how the Stark house looked or looked, it progressed for the damn child.
When he was about to turn off the light of his candle, he got scared because Hariric Stark came out of the shadows. Those greenish grey eyes that showed little sympathy for him. Why was the boy there? That would be an excellent question and one that also terrified him in many ways.
"I hope I'm not bothering you in any way, master Wallys. I am perfectly aware that age is something that actually takes its toll on anyone, so I beg you to apologise if it seems that I am getting into your life too much. Hariric sat quietly in a chair. He was calm but inside let's say it easily that he was close to killing the man in front of him.
''Young lord hariric. It doesn't bother in the least but I have to tell you that it's an incredibly hard day. There is a lot of work about it as a master. Although nevertheless I would like to kindly ask you to talk to your father about certain matters.'' Wallys didn't know what the boy was doing there but he could say frankly that he didn't like the look he had at all.
"Really? Well, I guess I could listen to whatever you have to say, however, I think I should know that I have come for a weighty reason and more than anything I would like to have the matter dealt with but I am sure I can make an effort to talk to you about this very important issue''. Hariric laughed. What did the old man have in mind? Possibly he had in mind some stupid or strange request anyway.
"My lord in recent times the young Eddard has been seen with books of very ancient history of the Stark house. Every time he has asked me about a house in the south he has had a grimace. I'm afraid that Mr. Eddard could somehow harbour bad thoughts against the crown''. Wallys knew that Hariric Stark cared a lot about his brother so above all he would do anything to see him resolved.
"Really? My brother is learning from the past of the Stark house. A past that I should have learned above all things. The Stark house is after all an old house. Are you saying that we should ignore the past that gave us shape instead of what is the strong and powerful belief that many of the lords of the south have of how to mould the North?" Hariric only gave a look at the old man who turned pale at that moment.
"My lord, I think I'm very serious when I say that you should be very careful with what you're talking about. Some would not feel happy at all to hear it. The North and South have many wounds and scars that it is better to leave buried. Now the North is part of the seven kingdoms. Some gentlemen might see their brother doing such a thing as a better option to lead them than yourself''. First rule of convincing a nobleman: threaten his position.
''I see. You fear that my little brother is learning from the ancient Stark lords. Some of them like Theon the Hungry Wolf sworn enemy of the Andalusians. I would honestly say it's a complete exaggeration but at the same time I would say it's a bit stupid to worry about something like that if you know what I mean master Wallys''. Hariric could practically see the plan in Wallys' mind.
'My lord, I'm not telling lies. I am aware that there are many lords of the North who are more than displeased with the actions of the Stark house. If they feel that there is a Stark who is clearly doing things the way they think is more necessary, I have no doubt in the least that they will surely try to support him''. Wallys was now practically growling. Why didn't the boy look nervous? Was he so sure of his position?
"I am perfectly aware of the ways in which many lords of the North see things. I am perfectly aware that many gentlemen of the North are bothered by the point that they believe that the North has been levelled down. However, saying the ned thing only brings out a point. Tell me master Wallys... What special reason did you have to see my mother dead that you thought of all the things that would be good to make sure she died during childbirth with my brother there?''. Hariric's cold voice was so lacking in any emotion that it would have frozen anyone.
"I don't like in the least that a person in any way, no matter how much of the North, dares to even think about the slightest that is in his right to say such a thing. And even more so when my duty is to serve the lord of the castle and his family''. Wallys would have said more but was interrupted when an agonising pain ran through his whole body.
"I know you've realised what I'm capable of. I am able to manage mystical energy or as some call it magic and I am able to do many things with magic between them I am able to know that you are not only lying but that you are a bastard who was plotting to start a campaign to see me in bad eyes and put Ned in my place. It's not that it bothered me much. I'm a firm follower of how things were done in the past, so you better know that I'm by no means a weak southern pussy''. Hariric applied his magic of pain again.
"You are an aberration that will be treated with time. The other teachers will not tolerate a threat like you in any way. You will be eliminated like those who practice these mystical arts''. Wallys tried to compose himself as best he could. His body hurt in many ways. He never thought he would feel something like that. However, it got much worse because of the completely ruthless smile that the boy had. What kind of monster was this?
"Really? A threat? How fun if I have to be honest. I guess you're thinking silly that your order will know about me. I guess you're thinking that somehow they found out, maybe those candles from Valyria? An incredible invention if I have to be honest. A slightly insignificant invention compared to some things that I am capable of but still capable enough to detect magic in reality''. Hariric laughed amused at the idiot in front of him.
"It doesn't matter what you think, child. If I die, the teachers will ask themselves what is going on and then they will send someone asking about it. So he will continue with my plans. However, if you leave me alive it will mean in a few words that the citadel finds out. You Lose''. Wallys laughed amused at the boy thinking that he had everything under control. That was until I heard a cold laugh even more than he was used to hearing in his life.
"Did you really think I would have revealed myself as I am before you just to let you know who I am and what I am capable of just so you can go to your bosses? Not master Wallys. You see, I've been controlling your actions for a long time. Isn't you really surprised that the crown hasn't taken more actions against the Stark house when they, in a few words, will see the increase in the house they despise the most with Lannister?''. Hariric laughed only at the Master's gaze. However, the man tried to say something when he felt that he was completely speechless.
"You're a puppet Wallys. But don't worry. You still won't die. You have some time left to live. Why? Well, for the simple reason that I want to see my enemies torn to pieces. The citadel, the crown, the lords of the south. The North does not forget and certainly does not forgive. Since the Andal invasion, the lords of the south have believed themselves with power. Then leave me the pleasure of demonstrating to the south that true power is not that won with armies. Not even with gold. Power...is born with it''. With his words said I attack completely destroying Wallys' mind and turning him into little more than a puppet although I leave a small piece for him to see everything that happened about it. That was the punishment for trying to kill his mother.
Dreadfort-
The news of the birth of the young Benjen Stark had reached every corner of the North. Many gentlemen and ordinary people looked happy. But for Lord Bolton and leader of the red alliance it was not good.
He had counted on the death of Lyarra Stark as well as the death of the child to start launching small attacks against the Starks. The last few months had not been pleasant at all. From what they had informed him, the construction of Wintertown had been finished and it was so magnificent that it would be the envy of every gentleman in reality. White stone houses with such an elaborate way with glass windows and warm houses. That just in case it was a nuisance.
As if that wasn't bad enough, the information had arrived that the Bear Island Shipyards had already begun to be built. Great places like never seen before. Although the place would be in the hands of the Mormont house being at this time the producer of northern ships, the acquired wood was being provided by the Forrester house under the command of the Glovers.
The Glovers had not been happy with their vassal acting but when they tried something they only commented that it was their right to accept business after all and that they did not see because they complained if they received more money in taxes which was another headache.
The Stark house had also begun the construction of Black Wolf Port at Sea Dragon Point. It would become the branch of the Stark house and as if that were bad enough there was the fact that the construction had been designed by Hariric Stark himself just like the Winter Fortress in what was the Stony Coast.
Many of the northern lords were seeing it as the rebirth of the great Stark lords. All that was missing was to be told that in a nutshell, in addition to that he was also building the new fleets. Fortunately, the good news is that there were still no shipyards in the east (the keyword still being of course).
Lord Bolton hated him. After almost three hundred years of intrigue, the red house had finally amassed a powerful alliance: Glover, Ryswell, Hornwood and themselves actually. With Karstark's neutrality, it would be easy to crush the Starks.
They would only need a detonator and I had found it in the hands of neither more nor less than the master of the Starks. The blind trust that the Starks had in the masters was stupid. Believing that they were obviously tied by oaths. Oaths are just words, no more, no less, and in his opinion, with them one would be able to do what he wanted. They could follow them or not. He didn't care in the least, the only thing that mattered was the power.
Anyway Hariric Stark was a serious threat and that's why the master in question had come up with a plan: a civil war in the North. It was no secret that there were many lords of the North who despised and hated being tied to the south. Among them many of the lords loyal to the Stark house as umber and as of course the Mormont. They were something that could be exploited alluding to the fact that Hariric Stark was naturally very much in favour of the south seeing that he had been educated there.
It was only a matter of selling the information skilfully at least that was the plan at first. And since the voice had reached him, the young ned seemed immersed in what the Starks of yesteryear were. Something more than really exploiting.
Of course, to do that you would have to do it well. The death of Lyarra Stark and his son would have simply caused a fight. It was well known that although Rickard Stark was an intelligent and ruthless man, he had a lot of temper and that it was only his wife and nothing more than his wife that kept him mostly tied up.
If something happened to his wife it was not a question of whether something would happen but of when and then they could exploit it. In a civil war the Boltons would take advantage and sweep everything although at the same time he would naturally have to guarantee that the Karstarks did not try to get into the middle of all this what he knew they would try to do. They could be neutral but they would not step aside without leaving things to be.
Of course he knew that the only way to guarantee complete dominance was not only the complete annihilation of the Stark house but its assimilation. To achieve such a thing I would need neither more nor less than in what was home to Lyanna Stark with her son. It would be so much fun. The bitch turned into little more than a tool. I could almost savour the feeling of joy. He knew that his ancestors would have been happy. They would finally have destroyed their enemies and that was quite good for him... at least it was until their plans were completely destroyed more than could be said.
To begin with, Lyarra Stark was not dead. With her alive there would be no fights. Rickard Stark couldn't be moved to do what they wanted. In short, her plans were spoiled because this woman was still alive.
I didn't know how but the Stark house had cured her of the poison which meant in a few words that they could either know that the master had poisoned her or possibly someone else poisoned her. It didn't matter in that sense because I had everything covered in reality. I sincerely doubted that there was something or someone who could anyway discover that he had something to do with it in reality since if they knew it he would surely have the Starks on top.
Another point against him was that the Starks, especially the eldest son, had been using their resources to not only strengthen the Stark house but their allies. Umber, Dustin and Tallhart were producing large amounts of food that were obviously being stored for winter and at the same time sold to every home that could not produce it.
As if that were not enough, the number of farms in the land had increased, which meant more meat and rich food for the lords of the north. I hated him passionately and had tried to do something. Everyone had tried but every plan failed in a big way if he had to say it and as if that wasn't enough that enriched their enemies even more since the money came from them. Ryswell had to buy Dustin. Glover to Tallhart and themselves to the Umbers. That infuriated him.
To make matters worse, the greater amount of food had meant more job opportunities, which included people to protect the new strengths. He was not so stupid as to know that now the Stark house could call more than forty thousand men by themselves (they are not forty thousand professional soldiers but armed civilians) which meant that they could no longer compete with them in terms of numbers which infuriated him even more.
As if this wasn't bad enough, there were the monetary resources of each house that grew more and more with more time that was given to them. Lord Bolton hated when things were not under his control but he hated even more when things were not only out of his control but also that his enemy was strengthened in the process. And it was all due to Hariric Stark. How could a single person alter the game so much? I didn't know that. What he did know was that he hated the brat with all his soul and there was nothing he wanted more than to kill him because his plan to obviously destroy the Stark house was dead.
He was about to do something when he saw an image. There was a beautiful bird in his window. Feathers as white as snow or the so-called white gold. The feathers of the tail and the ends of the wings were black like the night itself. I had beautiful green eyes and a peak of colour of the same touch of white. It was wonderful. Thinking it would be a good pet I was about to move when I heard the sound of a sila. Turning around he found what had destroyed his plans for so long: hariric Stark. I was there. Sitting quietly as if nothing really happened.
"Young Stark, can I know what's going on here? 00. Lord Bolton spoke with great tranquillity but there was something strange. The child. I was at peace. In complete and fucking peace. There was no better way to describe the matter if I had to be honest. He was in the middle of the castle of his family's worst enemy and yet he acted as if it was not important.
"Normally I'm not one to do something so direct. I'm not stupid enout to believe that I can do anything and get away with it. Unlike many arrogant idiots who hope to take one last look at their enemies while savouring their pain and suffering. I am many things Lord Bolton. Idiot is not one of them so maybe the question you should ask yourself is "What caused a person like me to come here to see you?" Hariric had finished kindly reprogramming Wallys would use him as a means to cause greater pain to the citadel in the North and then expel him.
"I don't know what you're talking about, young Stark, but I won't tolerate such an attitude in the least in my domains. Right now I don't know how you got here but I warn you that you are going to stay for a long time''. Lord Bolton was about to move when he was paralysed. He had never felt like this in his life. The inability to move. I could breathe and hell I was sure I could talk but move? I couldn't in the slightest.
"It is very rude to act in such an unpleasant way, Lord Bolton. After all, as my future vassal, you should know better than to throw yourself forward like an idiot who thinks he will get away with kidnapping me or something like that. Did you really think that if I had managed to come here somehow I wouldn't be able to get out? Honestly, there are days when I wonder about the brain of humanity.'' Hariric poured himself a little more of the Boltons' raw wine. It was unpleasant and of bad flavour in his opinion.
"What have you done to me? Why can't I move? You'd better think carefully about your actions, kid. You can be on the verge of unleashing a civil war in the North if it is somehow known that you have caused this to me.'' Lord Bolton tried to say more when a whistle was heard. Then he noticed the snake that appeared from the ground that although he could describe herself beautiful he could say frankly that it looked more than dangerous.
"Do you really still think you have the right to ask questions? Lord Bolton I don't know if you have noticed precisely but well I'm a little more than upset. First of all, you are plotting a civil war. Usurps the position of ruler of my family. Enslave my sweet little sister. Trying to kill my mother. And of course, mounting such a big mess that it would destroy the North. Is it really hard to believe that I'm happy right now?''. Hariric spoke to him as if he were a little boy.
"First point: the civil war. Not only were you plotting for my vassals to kill each other, but you also expected them to become family against family in the hope of hurting them and consequently making and causing the North to weaken and you take control. Just for that point you have pissed me off since I naturally have the ambition to create a powerful kingdom'' First reason was more than justified by God.
"Second: usurp my family's position. Not to offend, it was my family, not your piece of scum that ended up uniting the North. It was my family, not yours, that brought the construction skill to the north and the first men. That you are simply thinking of turning against my house annoys me and makes me want to make an example of you. A death so unpleasant and painful that it makes all your desires seem insignificant compared to your desire to die''. Because yes. His family had invested thousands of years in what the North was.
"The third and possibly the worst you could think of: enslave my sweet little sister. My little sister is a treasure of very high value to me. I sincerely feel that the mere fact that you have even thought about doing such a thing shows the little value you had for your life. Such an action had to be punished with the greatest possible brutality, which is what I intend to do, little shitty rat.'' Hariric growled at the man. He was taking all his occlumance so as not to start a massacre in a big wage.
"And the last mistake. Possibly the one that has cost you your life. Trying to kill my mother and my unborn younger brother. I have Bolton rules and these rules have always been with the intention of preventing me from doing something incredibly bad or stupid, such as designing a deadly virus that kills the human population and eradicating it completely. But that doesn't come to the story. Right now I have a lot of anger against you and your whole house that doesn't look like it's going to disappear just like that''. Because I wanted to. Fuck in his old world when humans proved to be such fucking idiots it was almost tempting to repeat the actions of his family and design a New Black Death sincerely.
"You wouldn't dare. You wouldn't dare to kill my whole house. You have no proof and evidence beyond the silly things you're saying. Without evidence or anything and unless you kill little boy nothing will prevent me from letting you know that you are a phenomenon''. Bolton shouted thinking that he finally had things under control. He didn't get better when he naturally saw the young man tense up. I hoped it would get bad. What he didn't expect was such a sharp pain that it almost made him feel that his muscles were untangling.
"It seems that you are so stupid that you think you are above others in many ways, haven't you realised it yet? I'm not going to leave you alive but I wasn't going to kill you easily. No, sir. Something quick. Something painless. He's too kind if I have to be honest. No. It had to be the cruellest thing and that's why I designed everything especially for you my dear friend. A real torment if I have to be frank''. The mere fact that the trash thought he would get out alive was an insult to his intelligence.
Lord Bolton looked at the snake with fear. His fangs were a centimetre away from him when he saw Hariric come with what seemed to be a needle of some kind. I was shaking with fear when I put it on. Then he slowly felt that his body began to tremble. He felt a sharp pain and at the same time he was paralysed even more than before. The snake looked at hariric and hissed. He only replied that he would never let her put her beautiful fangs on a human as pathetic as him.
''My own creation. It will make your body completely paralysed. It will also be causing damage to the nerves that will be considerable. And at the same time it will make you have a mental torture proof of every action you have committed that is classified as wrong. I hope you've never raped anyone since it won't be nice. Well, ciao friend''. Hariric stood up and the snake approached him to put himself on his shoulders and the bird reached him and disappeared in a puff of white fire. Bolton's last thoughts were a curse on the Stark house and praying for his son to avenge him.
