Helena awoke the next morning. She glanced around a little disoriented. She still remembered a few fragments of her dream. While wiping the sleep out of her eyes she slowly remembered what the day was. The moment she had been waiting for. Her journey to kill the werewolf king. She stood up off of the bed and slowly walked to her closet. She reached for big wooden door that separated her room from her closet. She loved the weight of the big wooden door in her hands and the brass handle that was the shape of a dragon in flight. She took a deep sniff of the door as it went past her. She loved the smell of cedar and that is why she loved her door so much. She started to think about her journey and the mission that she had so eagerly accepted. She probably would not step foot in her room again for a very long time.
She went deeper into her closet. It was big enough she could walk in but not big enough to get lost in it. She went to the part of her closet that had shirts and pants. She grabbed a long sleeve t-shirt that clung to her and a fish net shirt to put over it. She then looked for some pants. She grabbed her favorite pair. The black cargo pants that fit at her waist and was a bit loose going to her feet. She walked back out of the closet and glanced at the bed where Jackson still laid asleep, peaceful, and handsome. She walked into the bathroom to fix her hair. The way she wanted it to be was two but into two separate puffs on each side. She knew this is how the women in the wolf packs kept their hair. She grabbed what little supplies she had in her room. All it consisted of was a bag and a little bit of money for her to acquire the rest of the items that she needed.
She stepped out of her bedroom. She called Miccah, "Jackson is still asleep. When he wakes up take him back to the kitchen."
"Yes, my lady." She nodded to Miccah before she started down the hallway to the stairs that would lead her to the foyer of the castle. As she descended the stairs her family came into view. She was taken aback to see each one there waiting for her to begin her mission. Her mother was the first one to come to her.
She spoke, "Helena, my child, my only daughter please be careful in this. You know all to well what will happen if they catch you. They would do unspeakable things, tear your fangs out so that you will starve and can not eat, and torcher your body."
"I know mother. You do not need to worry I have almost everything planned out." Which Helena quickly looked away from mother to hide that she didn't have everything planned out like she should.
"I want you to take a few of the vampire royal guards with you." said, her father.
"Ok, I will." but she knew she would have to leave them behind at some point because she wouldn't be able to have all of them transformed or cloaked. She would have to carry out the majority of this by herself. She gave her mother and father a quick hug. Then she hugged her grandmother and turned to her brother. Halien stood there looking in awe of his sister. How could she be willing to do this? He quickly grabbed her in a hug and squeezed her. Helena thought as he did this was he thinking this is the last time he would see her. Halien stood back and held Helena's hands; then gave her one last hug and she turned to walk away.
She felt something in her hand while she was walking away. It was some sort of token her brother gave to her secretly. Something they had come up with when they were little. The small token was a cross that was crudely made but besides this it was something they had made for each other. It was a symbol of their undying faith and love for each other. It was also special because whenever one of them was in trouble all they had to do was hold and squeeze the cross while speaking their name. They would always come to each others aid. She walked out of the castle in to bright daylight. She was able to walk around during the day but it was only because of the great sacrifice her family had given up for the kingdom.
She took the dirt path that was leading away from the castle. The path had great big trees on either side. They were beautiful dogwood and cherry blossom tree. Ironic to be going to kill the werewolf king and have a dogwood on their property. She was think this while the guards trailed behind her. There was only five of them to accompany her. She stopped at the end of the road to go over some rules for them.
"First, You are to help me guard myself. Second, at some point we will have to separate because I don't know if I can get some one to disguise use all. Third, stay behind me so we do not look to obvious especially when we get closer to the dens location. If I need to add any I will. Got it!"
All of the soldiers shook their heads in compliance with the princess' orders. She started to walk off and turned around in a swift motion. "And do not call me princess, royalty, or by my birth name. If you do it might prove to be the death for us all." The soldiers only shook their heads in agreement.
