Chapter 3

A year later. Elaea.

The palm leaves swayed softly in the wind. The smell of salt and the ocean wafted through the town. Women were weaving baskets while men went out of the reef to fish. The sun was shining brightly, making the golden sand sparkle.

But this wasn't what had caught six-year-old Cascade's eyes. No, what caught her eye was the clear, blue water.

Something always drew Cascade towards the water. Whether it was the colour or the coolness of it, was something Cascade could and would never understand. It was as if Nixie loved the child and wanted her nearby.

The ocean and Cascade had many things in common. Take her dark blue hair and her eyes, for instance. Both were as dark as the deep ocean. The ocean was endless, never-ending, just like Cascade's love of it.
