How I Get Embarassed

"It's a guy." Kat mouthed at me as if I wouldn't have guessed it on my own. "Why should we believe you?" She asked, addressing him.

"I know it's not easy to believe me but I've started the peace pact to return something to a person."

"You started the peace pact? You know that you can use that privilege only once, right?" She asked, disbelief clear on her face.

"I know that. But I couldn't find this person without doing that." I could hear the smile in his voice and I could guess that he got this question a lot today.

I don't know why but I couldn't see any deception in his voice but looking at Kat, I knew she was having a hard time believing it. "Look, I'll believe you once you tell me what is that thing which you wanna return." She smirked. This time, I knew exactly what she was thinking. She was testing him. If he answered without hesitation then she'd trust him and if she found his answer even a little bit suspicious, she would do.....well something. It didn't matter right now. I just wanted to know that guy's answer.

"It's a girl's cellphone." Sure enough, he answered without the least bit of hesitation.

"How do you know it belongs to a girl?"

I heard him sigh. He was tired of Kat's interrogation session. "Because it has a pink, glittery cover and a girl's picture on the lock screen." I frowned. Some thought was nagging at the back of my mind but I couldn't grasp what it was.

"It can belong to a boy. They put their girls' pictures as lock screens and wallpapers."

"Boys don't put glittery pink covers on their phones."

"You never know."

"Look, I know you're just being safe by not letting me to the center but I assure you, I'm not going to attack. I have started the peace pact so I can't attack anyway." He put a little more force in his voice. He sounded genuine but why couldn't Kat hear that?

"I want proof that you've engaged the peace pact." She declared. This time, I sighed too but in my mind. I didn't wanna earn a glare from my crabby partner.

"I'll say the phrase in front of you and if it's not engaged yet, it will be now. Happy?" He was frustrated. It could be heard in his voice.

"I'm listening," Kat replied. I shook my head. It was as if I was watching a movie. I could just watch, I couldn't do anything to change the situation. This poor guy just wanted to help a poor girl and Kat had decided to be evil at that very moment.

"I start the peace pact, promising not to attack anyone and requesting everyone not to attack me until I achieve my peaceful goal." He finished and the first thought in my mind was how lame this whole line was. Peaceful goal. I wanted to laugh but thought better of it.

"Fine. But just so you know, I'm not alone. I've got three people here, ready with their guns so beware." Kat threatened him. Three people? I could barely be counted as one due to my lack of experience in shooting and she was bluffing about three? There was no use to bluffing since he would know that we were just two when he entered.

"I just wanna return this phone to its rightful owner." The owner of the voice slowly came into view. A tall, dark-haired guy with an athletic body. His sea-green eyes scanned the surroundings and landed first on Kat, then me. He didn't look like he was going to attack. He wasn't even armed. He could barely be called threatening with that face of his. With his perfect jawline, straight nose, and sun-kissed complexion, he looked like Percy Jackson come to life.

I noticed that his hand clutched something pink. Had to be the cellphone.

"You're just two." He remarked and smirked. "Good liar." All this time, he kept his gaze on me and I realized that he thought I was Kat, the girl who had communicated with him.

"Thanks," Kat replied, coming to stand beside me. His gaze shifted to her. "Now show us the cellphone. If it belongs to either one of us, which I doubt, we'll take it from you and if not, then you can go without any harm."

He nodded. "Fair." He took a step towards us.

"Oh no, peace guy. Stand at your place and display the phone from these. We can't take any risks." Kat instructed.

He rolled his eyes but complied. Raising his hand to his chest, he displayed the pink phone which he had set out to return. My eyes widened. I fumbled with my jacket's pockets and sure enough, my phone wasn't there. When had I lost it? And where?

"See, it doesn't belong to any of us. So, you can go now." Kat said.

He smiled. "Are you sure?" So he had noticed my expression and fumbling state. And how could I forget that he recognized me from my wallpaper?

Kat glanced at me and scowled. "How can you lose your phone?" She was asking but I had no answer because I was asking myself the same thing. How could I lose my phone? I was embarrassed. This guy used his one-time privilege of engaging the peace pact to return this phone to its rightful owner when he could've used that privilege for his benefit. He almost put his life in danger for this. How could I possibly thank him enough?

"Um, how will I give you your phone if I can't come to you and you won't come to take it?"

"Oh, right." I walked towards him and took it from his outstretched hand. "Thanks." My voice was barely audible. I cleared my throat. "Thanks." Much better.

"No need to thank me. Just don't lose your phone again because I've used up my peace privilege and might not be able to help you out."

I smiled, sheepishly. "I won't."

"If you're done, can we go now?" Kat called from behind.

"I should go. We can't stay at one place for long, it's dangerous." I was reluctant to leave him there. He helped me so the least I could do was help him out of the maze. "Would you like to accompany us outside the maze? It'll be faster than going by yourself." I tried not to flinch when I heard a growl from Kat. It was hard to remember that she was not a cat.

He chuckled at Kat's reaction. I guess. "How is it faster?" He asked me, raising an eyebrow. "Have you got a map or something?"

"Oh well, sort of."

He seemed reluctant. "Um, if your friend doesn't have a problem-"

"She doesn't." I earned another growl from Kat.

He looked back and forth between my partner and I. "Okay then. I'm in." He smiled.
