Hunter Datapad (1)

Rita was staring at the data pad that had already reached thirty percent decryption, she let the datapad decryption continue in secret because she was busy thanks to all the things that happened.

Staring at page two she began to continue.

She died. The Herrscher under their captive that was constantly being experimented on was now dead. Official reports stated that she died because of the mental strain. Rumors said that the mad hunter killed her for amusement. Others believed that the Progenitors had no use of her therefore they killed her so that she could revive and give them a new core to use for a weapon.

I on the other hand was one of the people trusted by many and they have allowed me to record this. The real reason for the death of the Herrscher of ice was that because she had no more Honkai left. The hunters did an experiment of extracting every single Honkai energy she had and completely isolating the Herrscher from Honkai of any form and sorts. This caused the Herrscher to slowly spiral out of control as she slowly descended to the edges of insanity.

Day 1 subject seemed fine and nothing worthy to note.

Day 2 the subject's body began to shiver and tremble occasionally for long periods of time.

Day 3 subject's conditions were slightly worse.

Day 4 subject began muttering random words about killing and other related topics.

Day 5 subject's shivering and trembling became worse to the point she was visibly trembling 24/7

Day 10 subject cannot stay in one place for long, it was akin to having ADHD only that the subject sometimes tries to claw her way out of the glass cage.

Day 23 subject is now straight out screaming with a crazy tone as she claws the glass cage.

Day 43 subject has taken extreme measures and started to clenched her own nails into her flesh.

Day 54 subject has torn her hair off forcibly.

Day 55 subject died due to extreme blood loss.

It took fifty five days for the Herrscher to die after being completely isolated from Honkai energy and left alone, the hunters simply watched, observed and noted, not making any eye contact or any form of communication with the subject.

This was sick and twisted, but thanks to that the hunter can now safely assume that even if they were to imprison a Herrscher, cutting off their Honkai energy can only be a temporary measure if they still needed them.

Rita watched in horror as the next few pages showed the progression of the subject slowly descending into a state of madness and disarray. Rita nearly puked when she saw the claw marks on the girl's body along with her head that was wounded in multiple locations, some had hair while other parts had nothing to the point the skull was now visible.

Rita continued reading the log.

Elijah the one who brought her in was the one to oversee the experiments and when I asked him what we gained from this he simply replied.

A divine key and a lot of her blood.

Divine key created from the Herrscher's core was called Khione's grace. Similar to the stories of Midas, one touch from the divine key would freeze the target unless they have a strong fire source or a stronger Honkai resistance since the ice particles are being boosted by Honkai energy.

Soon many Herrschers suffered the same fate as the hunters started to farm them literally. But after a few months of quietness and nothingness the hunters grew wary, so naturally they sent out scout teams to check every corner of the planet only to return with nothing.

It was when an emergency meeting was called and it was revealed that an anomaly appeared. A high existence that descended the world, the Herrscher of Oceans that was placed some restrictions upon her descended to earth as the Herrscher of water. With the full awakening of the Herrscher the hunters did not spare any men as they sent all twelve of their Progenitors along with all their strongest hunters.

Two thousand hunters departed that day.

Nine hundred of them returned wounded. The rest KIA.

The Herrscher was captured and the divine key made from her core was gifted to Percival, codename Poseidon. Worthy of its name the divine key was shaped like a trident and the ability of the weapon is to control every liquid in the world.

The reason for this was because Percival was the one who suffered the most during this hunt. He lost most of his apprentices he gathered during the pre 1st generation and after the hunt only a dozen or so of his apprentices returned alive out of four hundred. Percival was the only hunter that has gone around the globe multiple times picking up apprentices with high potential. Losing hundreds of his old apprentices he could only grief and move one.

Percival soon set out with his new weapon and went to the seas where he hunted a lot of Honkai beasts in the sea to vent his anger. The storms and hurricanes the hunters could see forming on the sea worried them that he might hit a settlement or ships that were passing by. In the end the storms and hurricanes remained for a month before he returned with a cold and hard gaze. The other Progenitors gave him room and time to grief. In a year Percival was back to normal and immediately set out to look for more apprentices.

With the trident on his back he would return ten years later with ten apprentices. But they were different. They all had looks as if they went through hell and back. That look on Percival's face was one that shouted. He would focus more on the quality of his apprentices rather than the quantity.

From that day Percival slowly recovered the numbers he lost and started to send out his apprentices to train at least one apprentice.

Some returned with one, some with more, some with none, some had theirs killed, while some never returned at all.

This was the harsh life of a hunter. To ensure their lineage they go through great lengths and risks to ensure that their bloodline continues, but even if the numbers dwindle with each year. The numbers didn't matter, to them the quality is all that matters.

Year **** It has been a few years since the anomaly incident and during those times the Herrschers that descended has started to come down with complete forms as they were more powerful than previous ones, but thankfully the Herrscher of water hasn't descended yet.

Year **** I was assigned with Ethelred. A hunter that was said to be a 1st generation hunter, yet no one knew who his sire was. No one knew which one of the Progenitors took him in or made him a hunter. He was just there from the first time the hunters were created until now. Some speculated that he was a 0th generation hunter, while some speculated that his and his sire's relationship was not great. But the second speculation was highly unlikely as he hunts frequently with hunters of the 0th generation.

Although hunters were supposed to hunt Honkai beasts, we also have the responsibility to hunt down hunters that went mad, defected and plots to destroy the hunt, or are a threat to humanity. My first time accompanying Ethelred was when he was tasked to hunt down a group of ten people that defected the hunt in bad terms. They took some stuff from the hunt, so Ethelred was tasked with retrieving those items and exterminating the defected hunters.

This was also how I knew why Ethelred was called the hunter of hunters.

A title given to hunters that have hunted more than a thousand hunters.
