26 The Letter

Freya's impatient fingers removed the seal on the letter as soon as she reached her room. She leapt onto her bed, knees first with the biggest smile on her face because she knew who sent the letter.

Freya could recognise Tristan's messy handwriting anywhere, after all she was the one who would spend her days with him as children teaching him to write.

When she first unrolled the scroll a smaller piece of parchment fell into her lap. Freya gasped when she saw the drawing and all its details.

He had drawn a beautiful sketch of his favourite horses, Winter with her long mane, midnight with her jet black coat and Freya's most beloved horse, Chestnut.

Freya couldn't stop smiling as her greedy eyes read over his words, aching for a taste of back home and what news he had for her.

'Dearest Freya,

Why have you left me? Your gift is no use for it just brings me more sadness, if only it would allow me to see you and see your smile.
