Prologue

I know the beginning might be shitty and believe me I'm a nerve wreck right now because this is my first time and I don't know what people will think about this story.

But quitter never wins right?

And I'm resilient and would want your support.

Happy birthday mom!!!

The two girls screamed as their mother jolted out of bed due to the sudden disruption in her small room.

The girls eyes were lit up in joy as their smile widened.

They were glad their mother didn't catch on their hidden tantrums they've been making since last two days. The family although,not rich but still had enough to feed themselves with the little field their mother tends to and little food she brings everyday from the palace where she works.

"Oh my goodness!" Mrs. Adams was spellbound. The Forty three years of age with much wrinkles on the face due to strenuous jobs she made her body go through. She has never celebrated her birthday and seeing her two daughters with a little deformed cake with a single cake candle on a tray brought tears of joys rolled down her cheek.

"Come here pumpkins" she extended her arms inviting them into her embrace. The two girls dropped the tray on the table before plopping on the bed to join their mother in the near hugs.

"I love you pumpkins" Mrs Adams kissed her daughter's forehead as she held them close to her. She dreaded the fact that she would leave them in this harsh world soon and no one would cater for them anymore. After her husband's death, she had thought death would be easy but seeing this bundles of joy in her arms, she wished this time Lord would answer her prayers but it's inevitable because the palace is a deadly den.

"We love you too mom" Eva the eldest replied as she pluck herself off her mother's embrace.

"Stop whining and let's get to phase two"

"I want to enjoy mother's embrace a little" Jessica whined as she smothered close in her mother's warmth making the older woman chuckled and the elder sister rolled her eyes.

"Won't you let me get a taste?" Their mother motion to the melting Cake. She knew her daughter knows nothing about baking and seeing them tried to do this for her makes her stomach do double flip.

"It's not healthy!" Jessica blurted out.

Eva facepalm herself as she scowled at her sister.

"My sister sulks at something like this mom... I wouldn't advice you to try it out". Jessica shakes her head at confirmation of what she just revealed.

"Really?". Their mother faked her surprise, although she know it's true.

Jessica nodded as their mother get out of the bed.

"Well bird of the same feathers flock together" their mother deadpanned as Jessica face fell.

Eva smirked at her sis before following their mother outside, "serves you right bratty"

As if broke out a trance, "it's unfair mom" Jess drawled out.

"Everything is fair in love and war" Jess rolled her eyes as she sat on the stool in their cottage sitting room. It was a simple room, neat and filthy free.

"I know" Jessica said trying to avoid and dismissed her mother early morning preaching.

"Good heavens!" Mrs Adams exclaimed as she opened the pot.

"It's watery pasta mom" Eva said with a hint of mockery and Jessica scowled at her. Her cake wasn't a good idea so also the hand-made pasta.

"Watery pasta?" Their mother turned to them with the pot cover in her hand.

What mess have they made in her absence?

Will they continue to be like this after she's gone too?

She doubt that.

Just as she was about to reprimand them for wasting what could have been used to prepare three consecutive meals, she felt her a sharp pain at her lower abdomen.

Wincing and clenching her stomach,she fell to the ground. Eva and her sister, Jessica rushed towards their mother crouching beside her.

"Mother, are you okay?" Eva's voice raised in alarm but the older woman smile warmly at her kids.

She couldn't explained what went wrong at the palace last night to them, she couldn't tell them she had to drink poison to save the prince and cover up the second queen malice.

"I love you guys so much" Mrs Adams said for the second time as thick black blood splutter out of her mouth.

"Odourless Poison" Jessica who was a lover of science said at the recognition of the black blood.

"Who..who did this?" Eva said with a shaky voice as tears rolled down her chubby cheeks.

The older woman tries to fight the darkness nudging at her but her organs were rotten beyond repair due to the poison.

"I'm..sorry for...leaving you guys like this" Mrs Adams said as more blood sipped out of her mouth.

Placing Jessica's hands in Eva's, she smile through the pain, "take care of yourselves and never let go of..." The remaining words followed their mother into the abyss of darkness that called her.
