"Sorry, I didn't–"
"My apologies, I didn't mean to…" I looked up into a pair of dark brown eyes staring at me with mild annoyance. I didn't know it yet, but it was one I would find very hard to forget.
Then though, I bent my head to glance at my strewn bag on the floor, and a blush crept onto my cheeks. The ground was littered with lipgloss, car keys, a bit of money, and a spare tampon. I didn't like admitting it, but my period was too infrequent to not carry some form of protection. Even to a party.
"Let me get that." The man offered and bent down, while I fought hard to conceal my embarrassment. I bent down as well, missing a step as our heads hit each other and I groaned in pain.
"Ow!" In front of me, the guy said nothing until we finished and he handed everything back to me. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." It was only then that I noticed he had been swirling a drink in his free hand, and I was about to walk past when he spoke again. "How is the party going?"
"Umm, well…" I turned to where my best friend stood talking to another man. "Okay, I guess. Seeing as I'm the third wheel now."
He followed my eyes and smiled a bit. "Want to dance?"
"What? Sure." With a shrug, I let him lead me to the dance floor, mildly aware of Catherine's curious gaze. "What about you? Came alone?"
"Yeah," he drawled, guiding his arms to my lower back. "Needed a break away from work."
"Same here," I instantly gave away, and his smile deepened as I drew closer to him and began to dance. "So, what's there to know about…"
"Stephanie." If my mother could see me, she would be proud. Giving away my identity was one of the first things she taught me to never do, and once again I obeyed her. "Not much. Apart from the fact that the guy who invited me died yesterday."
"Damn. Want a drink?"
When I nodded my head, he signalled to the bartender and within seconds, a glass was in my hands. "I know. It's still surprising to me." I sniffed quickly, and put a hand over my nose as his sandy hair came into my memory. It was so weird that life could be easily taken away, without a care or backward glance.
Still, I continued to dance and as the minutes ticked by, I drew closer to this mystery guy. He held me carefully, keeping his hand firm on my back while he talked about the other dancers.
"You see those two there," he gestured to a young couple few feet away from us. "They're on their first date, and he's blowing it."
"What? How are you so sure?"
"Look at them. Her legs are faced away from him, she's folding her arm while he's splaying his wildly, talking about whatever." He grew even closer, and I caught a faint musky scent. "See how her eyes are darting around the room. She wants to leave."
"Okay," I agreed and watched them for a while before turning to him. "What about you?"
His brows creased. "What?"
"How are you sure you're not blowing it?"
He smirked, and lowered his hands to just cup my butt lightly. "Am I?"
Now, his breath was directly on my face, and I watched as his gaze lowered to my lips and chest before moving back to my eyes.
"Well, umm… no you're not."
"I thought so." He continued to smile as his fingers lazily traced lines on my lower back, and the thin material separating his hand from skin made it worse. Within seconds, I wanted nothing more than to take off my clothes and grant him further access.
However, I held back and tried not to acknowledge the heat emanating from his body. "What about those two?"
He looked towards the direction of my eyes and watched for some seconds. "They're either siblings or friends. No chemistry there."
"Are you some sort of pyschic or what?"
"No, just good at body reading."
"Really?" I took a sip of my drink. "What's my body saying?"
"Hmm, that we need to go somewhere more...private and continue this."
His outright boldness shocked me, and for a moment, my face was flooded in heat. At that moment, Catherine pulled me to the side and smiled. "Lily, I see you've found a fine specimen for yourself."
"What? No, it's not like that."
My best friend raised a brow. "Really? Your flirting is so obvious. Just do him already. Let loose, girl."
She started to walk away and I feebly called out. "That's not what–"
"Less talking, more doing." The feeling of embarrassment filled me again, but there was also one of desire and when I turned back to face him, it only heightened.
I made my decision in a second. "Do you know any place?"
We didn't even get out of the building completely before our lips met in a frenzy. I drew him closer to my body, and sighed in relief when his groin hotly pressed against mine. He stretched out a hand and one of the cars beeped behind us.
We entered his car without breaking the kiss, and instead, just focusing on getting our clothes out of the way. I felt the raw emotion in the way he clasped the shoulder straps of my gown and pulled them down, leaving my cleavage open to his gaze.
"Beautiful." His lips reluctantly left my mouth and the shock overwhelmed me as I moaned in delight.
"Wait!" I said, and instantly, my neck grew cold as he raised his head to look at me. "I didn't get your name."
There was an unreadable expression in his eyes but after a moment, he shrugged and bent to kiss me again. "Call me William."
I smiled and melted into him again, as both our lips fought for dominance. Within minutes, we were settled into the passenger seat of his car and I mildly registered him putting on the air conditioner. He was also removing the barrier between us, and I could only focus on how he felt beside me, on me and inside me.
For the entirety of our time in his car, he invaded my thoughts and senses, and as he pulsated inside me, I couldn't stop myself from lazily trailing his bare back. "That was nice."
"Thanks." I responded as he pulled out of me, and rested his head on the driver seat. As I stared at his closed eyes, the reality of our situation dawned on me. I just had sex with someone I had never met, a one night stand.
"What the…?" Instantly, I pulled my clothes over myself and looked out the window. The car park was quite deserted and though the music form inside was still on full blast, I felt uncomfortable.
"Hey, you okay?" I tapped William when his eyes were still closed, but the only response I got was a light snore.
"Really?" I huffed and sent a message to Catherine, while I quickly dressed up. I had half a mind to drop my phone number, and a cute message but decided against it. I didn't need to see or hear from him again.
In the time it took me to leave the car and walk out of the party through the front door, Catherine had already called the Uber driver and was sitting in the car. She smiled when our eyes met, but I said nothing and just looked out the window till we got home.
