Chapter 15

MAEVE

"I kissed him" I wailed.

I felt his comforting hand on my back stop it's movements. To say that I was feeling like the shittiest werewolf in existence, would be an understatement.

Alpha Bain and his pack had been risking their lives for days on end, whilst I was swanning around Theo's estate playing the deluded dream of a love sick pup.

I heard him let out a deep controlled breath. I didn't have much experience with my own wolf, but I knew from other pack members within the Sabre pack that he was trying to control his wolf.

I slowly removed my head from my hands, to look up at my mates beautiful blurred face between my tears. He had stood upright and was pinching the bridge of his nose between his thumb and forefinger.

"You kissed who Maeve?" He questioned.

I could see how much it pained him to string that sentence together. He continued to take deep breaths, not yet daring himself to look at me.

I panicked. What if he hated me? Could I blame him. I had shared a passionate moment, with the man who had taken his mate away from him. Forced him into a battle field he did not want for his people.

"Please Alpha Bain, please let me explain. Theo had told me you were the one to kill my parents. He told me your pack had slaughtered mine, and that I had no one left. He promised to protect me. I felt so alone, so vulnerable. I had fallen for his web of lies. I thought he was my saviour." I justified.

A low growl escaped his lips at the word saviour.

"Alpha I can only apologise, I don't know what else I can do to make this right." I was virtually begging.

I could see his chest rising and falling, his breaths becoming more shallowed. I'd heard the rumours of Alpha Bain. The murderous and ruthless Alpha. I was terrified of what was to come next. What actions would follow the revelation, of his mate being unfaithful.

"Alpha... please say something. Anything?" I pleaded.

He began to pace up and down the tent. His hand left his face, although his eyes were yet to meet mine. He looked up at the ceiling of the tent. He was fighting hard for control.

"Alpha..." my voice had turned into a whisper.

Had I left the arms of one ruthless Alpha, to fall into the arms of another?

He finally responded through gritted teeth. "Maeve. I really need you to stop talking right now. Please, just give me a moments silence."

Well, this was it. I watched my Adonis of a mate wonder back and forth across the tent. He was probably contemplating whether to reject me, to send me back to Theo.

I was getting dizzy just watching him pace for what felt like hours. He finally walked over to his bed and sat down on the edge. His legs positioned slightly apart, with his elbows resting on his knees.

He lifted his eyes to meet mine. A small whimpered left my lips the moment I saw the deep rooted pain, behind his mesmerising grey orbs. I had placed that pain there. My first meeting with my mate was ruined with my betrayal.

He bit down and sucked on his bottom lip, thinking of what to say next. As tense as the atmosphere was, I couldn't help but notice how sexy he looked when he did so. I looked him up and down tracing every feature of his face, and body into my memory.

His deep black hair was shaved at the back and sides with a neat, short cut on top. His face, looked as though it had been carved by the goddess herself. His high cheek bones perfectly sculpted his slightly hooded eyes. His strong brow made his face seem so much more expressive.

His powerful diamond shaped jaw, was still visible through his dark stubble. His broad neck barely indented from the width of his face.

His broad, wide shoulders oozed strength, I wanted to trace the indents of his collar bones delicately, with my fingers. Everything about this man was large and commanding. His very existence screamed Alpha.

"I'm not mad at you Maeve." He sighed.

I barely registered his words as I was too busy shamelessly staring at his physique. My eyes returned to his.

"You're not...?" I questioned in return.

He let out another deep sigh, getting up from the bed.

"No, I'm not. Is my wolf jealous that you shared a tender moment with someone other than me? Of course. But under the circumstances, you did nothing wrong. You were deceived, scared and alone. I don't blame you for seeking solace in the arms of someone else, in a moment of weakness. I cannot begin to apprehend what it must have been like for you, to wake up in an unknown environment. Being told your whole pack had been wiped out. That you had no one left in this world. On top of all that turmoil, you were unaware that you were mated to me. How can I be mad at you?" He cooed.

I was slightly taken aback by his kind, understanding nature. This was nothing like the Alpha Bain I had heard of in hearsay and tales.

Before I had a chance to respond, a woman cleared her throat from the entrance of the tent. She shifted awkwardly on the spot as we both looked over to her.

"Excuse me for the interruption Alpha, but a few of the warriors had mentioned you were injured. I believe a silver bullet to the shoulder, and a bite mark on your neck?" She probed.

My eyes scanned over Alpha Bain. How had I not noticed before, the wounds that were so clearly marked on his tanned skin. The bite on his neck looked like it was healing already. Beneath the dried blood, I could see his skin had begun to knit itself back together.

The bullet wound in his shoulder was another matter. It had started to swell, with intricate purple veins decorating the surface. The wound would not be able to heal until the silver was removed.

He looked at the woman and then back at me, the tender look he gave me sent shivers down my spine.

"I'll be fine Catherine." Was all he said.

The woman named Catherine looked uncomfortable. "Alpha, with all due respect that bullet wound will not heal itself with the silver still imbedded into your body." She uttered meekly.

She was right. No matter how big and bad this Alpha may be, the silver would only dig deeper into his muscles and flesh over time, making the wound worse.

His shoulders sagged in a slightly defeated manner. "Fine, take it out." He agreed.

He stood there waiting for her to do whatever it is that she needed to. She slowly made her way over to him and sighed with a slight smile on her lips.

"Alpha, we go through this every time I have to heal you. You're too tall for me to work on whilst standing." She voiced comically.

He looked at her, taking note of her small stature and returned to his previous position on the bed.

She had an apron on, from which she pulled out a pair of large looking tweezers.

"Would you like any anaesthetic Alpha?" She queried.

He shook his head and paired it with a frown.

"No, no it's fine. Just get it over with." Was his reply.

She placed her hand gently on his shoulder, to steady her movements. The second she did so my wolf made an appearance for the first time since I had woken up. I felt her take over and push herself to the front of my consciousness.

"MY MATE" she snarled through me. Catherine was slightly taken aback and removed her hand.

Alpha Bain looked up at me with a glint of mischief in this eyes. A small smirk danced on his lips.

"That's a bit rich coming from someone who just kissed another Alpha isn't it?" He mocked.

He chuckled to himself and gave me a playful wink. "Proceed Catherine." The alpha informed her.

I sat there with a gobsmacked look plastered across my face. Freyja whimpered in my head and retreated back to the depths of my mind. I knew from his playful demeanour that he was only joking, but damn that stung!

His eyes never left mine the whole time Catherine worked on his wound. In his own way I believe he was trying to let my wolf know, he only had eyes for me and that Catherine was not a threat.

He winced ever so slightly, gritting his teeth as she removed the bullet from his shoulder. I saw his flesh burn and sear slightly, as it touched his skin leaving the wound.

Catherine finished up her work by placing a gauze over the wound, then wrapping a bandage across his shoulder and chest to keep it in place.

Once she had finished, she took a second to admire her handy work and then gave a nod in his direction. "Alpha." She acknowledged.

She turned her gaze to me and gave a similar nod "Luna." She recognised.

Without another word she exited the tent.

Alpha Bain gaze had not left mine the entire time. It was as though we were trapped there. Both silent acknowledging so many unspoken words.

I finally moved from the sofa. Standing up I walked over to him, clearing the space between us. It was as though my body was moving on its own accord.

Before I knew it I was standing directly in front of him. He hesitated, unsure of how to proceed. He stood up towering above me with his massive frame. Taking a small step, he closed the space between us entirely. I moved my head upwards to look at him.

The size different between us was bordering on comically ridiculous. The top of my forehead barely reached his chest. He leant down and rested his head in the crook of my neck.

I felt him take a deep intake, familiarising himself with my scent. I took the opportunity to do the same. His scent was intoxicating. He smelt like freshly cut grass and crisp rainfall.

"Mate" he mumbled against my neck.

I could feel his soft lips move against my skin as he spoke. The tingles it sent across the area built a small fire deep within.

Another throat clearing noise pulled us away from our trance. I pulled my face away from Alpha Bain's body, to see a rather large man standing in the tent. He had chocolate brown hair and chocolate brown eyes to match.

A low rumble escaped the Alpha's chest.

"For fuck Luca, can you not see I'm busy?" He addressed the man.

He pulled me into a possessive hug, as though he was scared I would disappear at any moment.

"Yeah, yeah. I get it. The big bad Alpha has rescued his mate and now wants to spend the rest of his days, until his dying day basking in her beauty." Luca joked.

Luca placed his hand over his chest feigning an expression of love and adoration. I couldn't help but allow a small giggle to rise. Whoever this guy was, he clearly wasn't worried about offended the Alpha.

"However, my gracious, merciful overlord we unfortunately have more pressing matters to attend to. I have a man outside claiming to be Beta, with approximately 20 plus naked women with him. Now my guesses are you've either finally gotten sick of my bullshit, replaced me as Beta and given him these naked women as a welcome gift... or more likely, he's  Alpha Carson's Beta and those are either his or Alpha Carson's slaves." Luca explained.

He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly as if either scenario would be ok with him.

My eyes widened at the realisation that I had forgotten all about Beta Stimpson, and the women.

"Beta Stimpson!" I gasped and released myself from Alpha Bains grasp.

My Alpha looked at me quizzically. "Is this where you admit to a second unspoken kiss?" He teased.
