The attack

Nolan's visit to the mountain pack kept the mountain pack from being attacked but only for a few minutes. While he was with them, some men were close by, waiting for his departure. To them, he wasn't a threat, and his death has no use to them. They were sent to the mountain pack, not the fire pack.

They saw him as a timid young man who needs to live if not forever but for this moment. Why they made this decision was unknown to many. As they await his departure, they strategize other plans to attack. They knew how powerful the mountain pack members can be and they have been coming over to watch them for a while now, waiting for the perfect time to attack. The perfect time they are vulnerable, and that time is now.

Though everything looked so peaceful for the mountain pack with no sign of being in trouble, their alpha had been going through a lot lately but had kept it a secret to his beta, his family, and even the elders. To him, he should tackle it alone than put his lack member in a state of fear.

And while he made that decision he never knew that would cause a great problem to his people. If he had known he would have attacked first. He would have found out every information he needs to know about them and gone after them, first. He would have made a better decision that will keep his people and family safe.

It was just a few minutes after Nolan left the mountain pack that they received a message from someone. Two guards had received the letter at the gate and one of them had brought the written letter to the packhouse and had handed it over to the alpha. According to the message the guards received at the gate, it should be handed over to the alpha directly and no one else. At first that had suspected something was wrong. Why would a message be sent with such a stern warning?. Why would they be told to give it to no one else? Not even the beta or the luna. They decided to shrug off the feeling and give the letter to their alpha just like they had received.

And It was after they opened the letter that their alpha realized that there will be an attack but who will be attacking them, remain unknown to him. He couldn't tell why the attack have to take place. The reason behind the attack was a worry to him. He needed to know their reason for wanting to attack them. All he could get from the letter was that their pack was said to be ready for a fight, in two weeks. He breathed a sigh of relief. To him, two weeks was enough to get his pack members prepared and ready for the attack.

At first, he had thought it was Salvador who had sent the person with the letter. Since he was the last to attack them some years back because he wanted their land. He felt he could only be the one to want to attack them again since he doesn't back off easily. He decided to keep the message a secret and tried to keep it away from his wife but somehow, the message got out. Not only did his wife and beta find out, but other pack members also found out too and it stirred up fear in the heart of the pack members as most of them had wondered why these unknown people want to attack them.

For a long time, the mountain pack had been known to be one of the peace packs to have ever existed. Unlike other packs, the mountain pack spends time in the mountains learning every necessary thing about the mountain. They knew all the woods. They could tell the shortest and longest cut to any place. They knew caves that could be a hiding place from enemies and threats. They could tell the part of the wood that is dangerous and the safe one.

Everything about the woods and the mountains is what they had grown up to learn and know. They also learn how to be warriors and protect their members. Since they do not get involved in fights with other packs, they believed they shouldn't be attacked for any reason. But with this letter, they could not help but worry.

There was tension everywhere. It was an unusual tension which must have been created but by the letter but by people who had given wrong information to the people. This was also a plan from those who wants to attack them. They needed to put the people in an unrest state. They needed to make them lose concentration. They needed them to lose their guard so it would be easy for them to attack.

It was in this tension that some unknown people in masks invaded the pack. The mountain pack was caught unaware. The people who had come to attack them were careful not to create suspicion. They were also ready, cause they came with brutality. They were ready to put an end to the mountain pack, once and for all.

To them, it is a must they get what they want, and to get that, they would have to hurt as many as they can. One after the other, they reduced the mountain pack member, setting their houses on fire. But despite being attacked without notice, the mountain pack would not give up easily. They put up a fight too.

The Alpha and the Beta joined in the fight, while their wives joined hands with other women to take the children out of the pack territory to a safer place in the wood. They needed to keep their children and the feeble ones alive. They followed the secret part, out of the territory and into the wood.

When they got to a place, the luna suddenly stopped. "I will return now. You should keep going" she said and turned to leave

"You can't leave just yet. You have to come with us" one of the warriors said. "I promise the alpha to keep you safe"

"I can't hide when my pack needs me. Go and don't look back. Keep everyone safe. I can't keep running. I need to fight too" she answered

It was a surprise to everyone to see their luna saying very long sentences in a long time. She had been the type who always kept to herself. At first, they had thought she was too fragile to be their luna. Why would the alpha of the mountain pack be mated to a fragile soul? Why will the goddess decide to give them someone as fragile as her?

They had secretly wished they had another luna but being with her for these years, they realized she was special in her way and had been happy they have her as their luna. But hearing her say she wants to join in the fight, that was courage they had never seen her show. "You should stay back. I will go instead" one of the warriors said

"I want to go myself. I want to fight for my pack too"

"Then I will go with you" the warrior answered.

They returned to the pack territory together and fight together. Everyone was surprised to see their luna fighting. Everyone put their best in the fight. They knew they needed to win but their victory isn't sure. It was never sure in the first place

The alpha got stabbed while trying to save his beta's wife. He had lost his friend, the beta, and also his wife. Somehow, the masked men knew all their weak points. They knew all their hiding places. He could tell it was a preplanned action that had been aided by someone from the pack. Someone who knew a lot about them. Someone from the pack had betrayed them.

They had been betrayed from the start but were too blind to notice it. He was too blind trying to keep everyone safe by keeping it away from them that he had sold his people to the enemies. He was bleeding so bad but he knew he needed to send a message across to his brother. He needed to keep his only daughter safe.

His trusted guard pursue him to let him take him out of the pack territory and get him treated but he refused. "G-get me a pen and paper. I need to send a message to my brother"

"I will get you the paper and pen but you need to get treated first"

"J-just get me the paper"

The guard went in search of a pen and a book and then returned some minutes later. He handed it over to his alpha, who inscribed some words down. He gave it to the guard. "G-go find my brother. T-tell him what had happened. T-tell him to keep Olive safe. S-she should not do anything nasty. W-when you think it's right, give this to her and help her. G-give her all the help she needs. A-and keep her safe. P-p-promise me she will be safe"

"I-i promise"

"N-now go. I will clear the way for you. Upkeep running. Y-you can't get cut". The guard after waving reluctantly, left the territory for his alpha's brother's pack to convey the message he was sent with. He knew his alpha would not survive it. He had lost too much blood. He had lost so much blood trying to save the beta's wife and also to keep the way clear for him. Giving his pack the last look, he headed for his destination.
