Chapter 16

His classes were considered to be boring as everything the school taught him was the same old thing.

Alastor couldn't help but feel the urge to destroy everything in front of him. The monotonous routine of these "shitty classes" was driving him mad. But Alastor had learned to control himself, suppressing his destructive urges with iron willpower.

'If I could time travel,' he mused darkly, 'I'd find the bastard who invented this useless system and erase him from existence.' The thought brought a brief smile to his lips, but it quickly faded as he glanced around the classroom.

Rias, Akeno, Sona, and Tsubaki were all fully engaged in the lesson. Rias, in particular, seemed focused, her attention fixed on the teacher.

Yes, even Rias. Alastor was sure that Rias was in the same boat as him but seeing her so absorbed made him question that assumption.

But Alastor wasn't one to waste time, even in a situation as dull as this. While the others listened intently to the lecture, he had found a way to make the hours spent in school more productive.

He began training his demonic energy in secret, channeling it quietly while the teacher droned on about topics that held no interest to him.

Over time, this practice had yielded tangible results. According to his internal system, there was a 3% boost in his energy levels.

It wasn't much, but it was something. After all, he spent five to six hours in this place every day—hours that would otherwise be wasted.

Given the circumstances, it would have been strange if there had been no improvement at all.

---

After classes ended, Alastor noticed Sona and Rias standing together near the classroom door, deep in conversation. Their expressions were serious, with none of the usual light-heartedness that typically coloured their interactions.

And it was his first time, he saw Sona making such a face.

Sona's brows were furrowed in concentration, and she was gesturing slightly with her hands as if emphasizing a point.

Rias, on the other hand, seemed more contemplative, nodding occasionally as she listened. Whatever they were discussing, it was clear that it wasn't trivial.

Curiosity getting the better of him, Alastor moved closer and asked, "What's going on?"

Sona looked up, her expression softening slightly as she acknowledged him. "Alastor," she began, sharing a quick glance with Rias before continuing. "We were just discussing something concerning. Rias had been keeping an eye on a human student here at the school, someone who possessed a Sacred Gear. She was considering making him a member of her peerage."

Rias nodded, her face still troubled. "But something strange happened," she added. "The presence of the Sacred Gear within him suddenly vanished, but the boy is still alive. It's like the Sacred Gear just... disappeared."

Alastor's mind quickly connected the dots. So it's about Issei, he thought. In the anime, Rias planned to use Issei to help her against Riser. But since I'm the one training her now, she wouldn't need him. Still, considering I'm the one who took Issei's Sacred Gear...

"Is this about Issei?" Alastor asked, his tone casual despite the weight of his knowledge.

Rias looked at him, surprised. "You know him?" she asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice.

Alastor nodded slightly. "Follow me. Let's go somewhere private," he suggested, leading both Rias and Sona towards the Occult Research Club (ORC) room. Since it was Rias's club, it was a secure place to talk without interruptions. Not that Alastor was particularly worried, but it was better to discuss certain matters in private.

Once they reached the ORC, Alastor closed the door behind them and turned to face the two devils. "What I'm about to say might surprise you," he began, then he summoned the boosted gear.

With a snap of his fingers, the Boosted Gear materialized in his hand, its red gauntlet gleaming in the light. The sight of the Sacred Gear, now in Alastor's possession, caused Rias and Sona to freeze, their eyes widening in shock.

"This," Alastor said, holding up the gauntlet for them to see, "is the Sacred Gear that once belonged to Issei Hyoudou. I took it from him."

Rias's eyes widened even more. "You—You took it? But why? And how?"

Alastor shrugged, his expression calm. "It was a matter of convenience. I needed its power for my own purposes, and besides, Issei wasn't using it to its full potential. He was more focused on his... less noble pursuits."

Sona looked at Alastor with a mix of curiosity and concern. "If you have the Boosted Gear, then what happened to Issei? Is he alright?"

Alastor asked. "You already saw him, how did he look to you."

"He looked fine." Sona said.

"The Gear was simply taken from him. He's still alive and unharmed, though he might not able to enter the supernatural side. I wanted to make sure it was in capable hands, and since I'm the one training Rias, you don't need him to win against Riser."

Rias was silent for a moment, processing the information. "So you took the Sacred Gear to... what, enhance your own abilities or to use it in some way?"

"Both, actually," Alastor replied with a slight grin. "But more importantly, since you're aware of the Gear's disappearance, it's only fair that I inform you of its current status. As for Issei, he's better off without the burden of the Gear."

Sona, still absorbing the news, finally spoke up. "And what do you plan to do with it now?"

"What do you mean?" Alastor asked.

"Are you just pretending to be ignorant or did you genuinely don't know what you just did." Sona said as she came close to him.

To which he just smiled. But Rias, who couldn't understand the context asked.

"What is the problem, Sona?" Rias asked.

"There is a big problem."
