A Date?

I arch a dark brow and say "The body was found at the back of your club?" Ambrose gives me a tight smile as he says "Yes, someone left both of us a gift. I guess they know you're working for me." I bite my lip and nod my head as I turn for the door, lost in my thoughts when Ambrose says "Wait for me in the lobby."

I turn to him and lock eyes with him before looking past him. I politely smile at Harris and walk out of the room. Am I going to wait in the lobby? No, everyone keeps staring at me and it makes me uncomfortable. I walk straight out of the police station and look for the most expensive car.

When I find the sleek black car, I pop my umbrella open and slowly make my way over. I lean against the wet car and prop my umbrella on my shoulder as the rain continues to fall in a calm manner.

I really don't know if I can trust Ambrose or not but my instincts tell me that I can... I watch the rain gather and fall off the tips of my umbrella and slowly reach out. As the cold rain hits my open hand, my thoughts go back to the rain in the park. Had I really done that?

I've never controlled rain before... as far as I know... witches can't. Was this something my mother's side of magic can do? I need to speak to her a bit more... I focus on the water and try to slow it down again but no matter what I try, I can't get it to work.

Maybe I just saw wrong? "I thought you left. Do you like the rain?" Ambrose says walking over to the car. I lower my hand and say "I felt like a science project in there so I decided to wait out here." Ambrose smirks and unlocks the car I'm leaning on while saying "Let's start our date then."

I frown and push off the car. As I open the door and slip in, I close the umbrella and say "Date? I wouldn't go that far." Ambrose's smirk grows as he says "Buckle up witch. Only one of us is immortal."

I smirk and buckle up as he pulls out and drives us to a small but fancy restaurant. As we pull up, the valet opens our doors and parks the car. I follow Ambrose into the dimly lit restaurant and can't help but notice that almost everyone in here is Vampire.

Even though it's still early evening, a lot of Vampires were out and active. When Ambrose sees my look, he smiles and says "We have our ways." I slowly nod my head and continue following him back. Most Vampires can't go out in the daytime or they'll burn.

Only the super powerful or older ones like Ambrose can walk around during the day but even then, they aren't very strong or fast during the day. I guess they have an underground tunnel or something? No... this is New Orleans.

The whole city is under sea level so they couldn't make a tunnel... I shake my head and sit down in the chair Ambrose holds out for me. As we both sit, Ambrose orders our drinks and something to eat. I guess you don't get menus here... or Ambrose is the type to control everything.

"So tell me... what else have you learned so far?" Ambrose asks pouring me a glass of red wine. I take the glass with a small thanks and sniff it. It smells good... I take a small sip and find myself surprised.

Ambrose chuckles and says "I'm glad you like it." I nod and take another sip before saying "It's not just the witches and vampires. The shifters are also being attacked." I say taking another small sip. He slowly twirls the wine in his glass as he leans back in his chair, deep in thought.

His dark blue eyes slide over to me as he continues to think in silence. I meet his eyes and take another sip as he says "Why do I feel like there's something else your not telling me, my dear witchy friend."

Lightning flashes outside, followed by a loud roll of thunder as I smile at him and take another sip. My eyes flash for a split second before I say "We all have secrets, Ambrose, even you. All you need to know is that something bigger is happening here and yet not a single supernatural sees it. Don't you find it odd?"

"I bet if you were to go ask the Brownies, fairies, and all the other lesser fae, you'll find that they've been disappearing as well," I say taking another sip and placing the empty glass down on the table. His dark blue eyes darken as he slowly starts to frown.

"Why do you think none of us are aware of this until they started making things really obvious?" I ask as I fill my glass again. His dark blue eyes seem steady but I can see the wheels turning in his head as he tries to find what he missed.

Suddenly, something clicks for him as he says "You... they're calling you out. But why?" I take another sip and shrug as I say "Don't know but I plan to find out. I do have one question though... Has the council been able to get in touch with the Church of Order?"

Ambrose places his glass down on the table, completely forgotten as the wheels spin nonstop in his head. He slowly shakes his head as he says "They are going to send someone over there this week..."

Lightning flashes again outside making my eyes flash again as my smile turns predatory. He looks up to catch the look and I see the very second his body tenses. I ignore him and drink the entire glass before placing it down on the table.

My fangs grow as I stand and bite into the palm of my hand. I hold my hand over the empty glass and let my blood drip into it as I say "What you'll learn from drinking my blood will be something that only you will know. If you try to speak about it to others, well... let's just say that there will be a very unpleasant backlash."

I use my magic to heal my hand as I lift my hand and lick the healed bite mark, instantly cleaning the spot. I don't need to be walking through a restaurant full of vampires with magical blood dripping off me.

I hear the table snap as I turn to look back at Ambrose with a knowing smile. "Until next time," I say turning around to walk away but Ambrose croaks out "W.. where are you going?" I stop and turn back to give him a predatory smile as I say "To find a suspicious mouse."
