Hidden Fires

Weak, powerless and pathetic. If anyone asked about Amon Ignis, this was all they would hear. Along with the occasional "his mom's kinda hot too." His mother, Lyssa Ignis, was the best on the Japan National Team. Everyone expected him to follow in her footsteps. And yet, he didn't. This is his adventure. And what an adventure it'll be. Did I also forget that he has magic.

Chapter 7 - “I’ll Surpass Her, In My Own Way!”

Chapter 7 - "I'll Surpass Her, In My Own Way!"

It was deathly silent. Nobody dared to speak a word, instead choosing to stare at the both of us, each in our own stances. His eyes bore into me, and if glares could kill, I'd be dead one thousand times over. It was like he didn't even consider me a challenge, that I was somehow insulting him by daring to face him. All I knew in that moment, was that I would teach him not to look down on me.

Smirking viciously as I held Apollo tightly, I couldn't help the swell of pride in my chest as I looked upon the roaring orange flames that danced around my blade. I don't usually feel pride, I like to think that I am a humble person. But seeing people like this, I can take pride in knowing that I'm going to give him the fight of his life.

Knocking me out of my thoughts, my teacher's voice boomed through the speaker, as I studied my opponent.

A lod, sharp whistle was blown, signifying the beginning of this fight. The sudden noise caught my opponent off guard. 'Perfect,' I thought to myself, 'exactly as I'd hoped.' I gripped Apollo until my knuckles turned white, my arms perfectly tensed as my feet digged into the ground. Sucking in one final sharp breath of air, I charged at my opponent, once more, catching him off guard. I smirked, my new found confidence surprising even myself, but I quickly shook it off. I had only one goal right now. And that was to win.

I lifted Apollo above my head, putting all of my power into my swing, whilst firmly planting my feet on the ground. Bringing it down, with one quick exhale, I caught him placing his arms in an 'X' guard above his head.

BANG!

Apollo had swiftly, and ferociously, collided with his guard. But I wasn't done, not yet. Dragging my left hand down the length of my blade, I saw it's flames engulfing my hand, as I quickly moved it down, clenching my hand into a fist as I did so. Using all my might, I slammed my fist squarely into his stomach, taking the air out of his lungs. Deciding that now would be a good time for him to use his own magic, he erupted a small gust of wind that almost pushed me out of the arena. His face quickly morphed from one of pain, to one of satisfaction.

"Did you seriously believe that you could ever defeat me with that weak sword combo? I'll admit, that last punch had a bit more power in it than I was expecting, but it's nothing impressive, and certainly nothing that could win you this fight."

The wind that surrounded his hand turned into a sharp blade of wind. My mind instinctively replayed the memory of how I got my scar. I started to break down the movement as my opponent spoke once again. I was hit by a wind blade once, It was never going to happen again.

"Look at yourself. You've broken down at the first sight of REAL magic. Just admit it already, you're not supposed to be here. You only got here because your mother was strong. That's all you'll ever be. Your mother's shadow."

He blasted himself towards me with a strong gust of wind. He readjusted himself mid air and sent a powerful kick towards my face. Blood slowly trickled from my nose, as it began staining the floor. Some people started laughing then. Others felt a speck of pity as they looked upon me. I didn't care. I didn't let it faze me. I lifted myself up, and stared my opponent dead in the eye. I spoke slowly and dangerously. New, raw, untamed anger welling up inside me.

"Do you really think you can say that to me… And get away with it."

My fist flew forwards at blinding speeds, hitting him square in the jaw. He fell over, landing on his ass, while one hand cradled his now burnt cheek.

I picked Apollo up from the now blood stained ground. I whispered to myself my next move. I knew that it was now or never. This fight had to be ended quickly.

"Apollo Recall."

The slowly dying flame that once resided in my hand, now jet back to the blade, burning as bright as ever. I pointed my flaming blade at his neck. My confidence almost coming off as arrogance as I spoke my next words.

"You can say whatever it is you want about me, because in the end, you're in the same boat as me, the worst class at this school. Compared to those at the top, those with REAL power, your nothing. And you'll never, ever be anything more than that. I'll surpass my mom one day. In my own way. And when I do, I hope you'll take a good, hard look at yourself. Burn this moment into your memory forever. And just know, that I beat you."
