Underground Tunnel

Thapira's POV:

Is this some kind of joke ? I heard people talking about this type of genre back in high school about being transferred into another world where people becoming a Hero in a new world, receiving a powerful blessing from god and superhuman strength, on top of that you got to travel on a journey and do adventuring with the most beautiful girls in the country, strong and talented companion or even a princess along the way. But in reality –

"Oy, new guy !! Why the hell are you still standing there ! Hurry up and start working"

A man in his late 40's screamed out to me while holding a lamp.

"Easy, Rex. He is the new guy that the guild just sent. Don't be hard on him !"

"John was right, we should be glad that we got someone to replace Krin while he got sick at home."

"Hehehee … couldn't believe that he got sick after he returned from the brothel yesterday."

"That idiot ! Enough Jim. Why don't you teach the new guy and start working on the assigned task!"

"Yes, yes !"

Currently, I was inside a sewer tunnel beneath the busiest district, known as "Glimmerdal." Glimmerdal is one of the districts that serves as the largest business area, where shops and markets pop up everywhere. As you walk around here, you can find and buy all sorts of items gathered from across the region and neighboring countries.

"Yo, boy what's your name ?"

A man in his late 30's that appeared to be Jim approached me. He was younger than Rex, the one who just scolded me.

".. It's Thap, Sir !"

"Tap , Thap.. Hah … what a stupid name, I'll just called you Tap then"

"... Understood Sir"

"Don't call me 'Sir', I have a name too and it's Jim, keep that in mind !"

"Sorry, Mr. Jim. "

"Hahaha… that's more I like it, don't be so timid with me I just play with you, boy"

Jim was around my height and muscular. He has a sense of humor and loves to joke around with his colleagues. However, the scar on his face made him look serious and furious all the time.

"Today, I will be your partner. Nice to meet you Thap !"

"If you please, I will do my best Mr. Jim"

The 2 of us were tasked to remove "Rattus" out from the tunnel today. Jim asked me to pull a wooden cart while he held a lamp and took the lead. It appeared that the rest of the workers were working on other tasks.

Along the way, I could smell the damp earth mixed with the sharp, acrid scent of refuse that lingered in the air. The tunnel's atmosphere was heavy, filled with the musky odor of mold growing uncheck on the wet walls. Every now and then, the distinct, pungent aroma of something rotten wafted toward me, I wanted to throw up but I managed to restrained myself from that to happen.

Inside this dark path, only the lamp that Jim was carrying was lit up the tunnel, casting a small circle of light that barely touched the edge of the darkness.

I was still curious about Rattus that Jim was talking about along the way.

"We're almost there if I recalled from yesterday"

"What !"

"Hahaha … I'm just kidding "

Jim casually joked with me while laughing out loud in this dark tunnel.

When we reached there I was jaw dropping when I saw what appeared to be Rattus. They were rats but their size and appearance was huge, there was about 10 of them laying dead around the tunnel floor.

Each one was the size of a full grown golden retriever. They had long tails, thick as ropes and their sharp, oversized teeth were bared in a final, grim snarl.

I could not believe my eyes that this kind of rat do existed. If both my sisters saw this they would leave the earth for sure.

I remember one time they begged me to sleep in my room after I took out a dead rat from their room. However, that was an earth's rat but the one that lay in front of me was something straight out from a movie.

"Let's get over it !"

Jim appeared to show no concern about the fact that their monster rat was right in front of him.

Jim and I began to start lifting Rattus one by one and loaded it on the cart. To my surprise each of them weighed about 25 kilograms. Now, I realized why I was assigned to this task with Jim because only JIm and I were capable of doing this heavy lifting job, as the rest of the members were about Rex's age.

As we were about to finish loading them on the cart, a hissing now can be heard from deeper within the shadows of the tunnel. The sound, sinister and continuous, halted our movements. Jim and I exchanged a glance, the same thought mirrored in our eyes.

Suddenly, 2 Rattus emerged from the darkness and confronted us with thier frightened and terrified claws and jaws.

"Hmmm. .. Mr. Jim … "

I muttered to Jim with my pale expression.
