Chapter 1: Socks

I scream as I feel a heavy weight jump on top of me, causing both myself and the heavy weight to topple over onto the ground.

"Landon! Get off of me!" I squeal at one of my best friends as I fail to get him off of me. "Landon! Off! Now!" I say, starting to lose any chance at getting a fresh breath for a while. "You're- crushing- me." I wheeze as little black dots start forming in my vision and he finally rolls off of me.

I sit up and start coughing, and inhaling large breaths as my best friends laugh at me, enjoying the sight of my pain. "You're-" I start to say to Landon, and inhale again. "A- jerk," I say, clutching my stomach.

Landon tries to help me stand but I fail and crumple to the ground. Landon gives my other bestie, Prem, a look, and she comes behind me and lifts me onto my feet and holds me there until I can stand. Either Prem is really strong or I'm just extremely light. Then Landon walks over to me and turns his back to me. "Hop on." He says and I laugh lightly, trying not to wheeze from my loss of breath, but end up coughing anyway.

"No- way." I choke in between coughs and he turns his head, giving me a look, and I change my decision. "Fine." I huff, giving in.

I hop onto his back and he spins in circles in my room before running out of it and stumbling down the stairs and I scream.

"Landon you're going to drop me!" I scream again as he pretends to drop me and gets to the main floor.

He finally lets me go and luckily I land on my feet. He turns around and seeing the fury etched onto my features, he starts slowly backing away but hits the arm of the couch in the main room. Bad choice.

I run like a cheetah and tackle him onto the couch until he throws me off of him and I can hear Prem chuckling quietly behind me.

I turn around slowly, a wicked grin on my face and chase her up the stairs and she locks herself in my room. What she doesn't realize is that for some reason the key is in my pocket. Why? I have no clue. I slip it silently into the keyhole and turn it before it clicks. I laugh to myself and put it back into my pocket before slowly sliding the door open just as Landon bounds up the stairs.

I motion for him to follow me. "Preeeeeeem!" I say, dragging out the 'eh.' "You better have a good hiding spot." I say cheekily, but get distracted by the sound of the front door closing loudly.

"Londyn, I brought cookies!" my mom yells up the stairs.

"You're lucky Prem." I say quietly and turn towards the door to my room. "Cookies!" I scream, pushing Landon to the side and sprinting down the stairs.

My mom chuckles when I skid to a stop on the kitchen floor.

Correction: I try to skid to a stop on the kitchen floor. Instead, I end up failing miserably and fall onto my butt. "Socks." I growl as my mom lets out a short chuckle.

I scramble onto my feet and towards the counter where a plate of chocolate chip cookies lay. "Are Prem and Landon here?" My mom asks.

"Yeah. You just saved Prem by the way." I say and she laughs.

"What did she do this time?" My mom asks.

"She was thought it was 'oh so funny' to watch me tackle Landon. Landon pretended to drop me when he forced me into a piggyback ride." I say while she laughs again and I hear two pairs of feet speeding down the stairs.

"LANDON WILSON! GIVE IT BACK!" I hear Prem scream to Landon and I roll my eyes as Landon runs through the kitchen and behind the counter with Prem's phone clutched tightly in his hand.

Landon just dodges Prem as she leaps toward him as an attempt to tackle him. He just runs outside through the back door and I watch him hide behind a tree from out the kitchen window.

Prem just goes hunting outside for wherever Landon could be. I walk over to the back door which is open at the moment and whisper to Prem, "Prem." And then I point to the tree Landon currently hides behind.

She nods before sneaking over to the tree silently. She lunges around the tree and I can see her scramble up before chasing Landon around the yard. She finally tackles him again and manages to grab her phone out of Landon's grasp.

I chuckle and roll my eyes at them. "Those two would be perfect for each other." I say to my mom, my eyes still on my crazy best friends.

"They would." She says, agreeing with me. "They fight like a modern old couple." My mom continues and I laugh, nodding,

As I watch my mom nod with me through the reflection of the window, Prem runs up to the door and opens it quickly, running in and slamming it shut as she runs into the living room. "Lock it Londyn!" she yells to me as she runs, and I do as she told me to, locking Landon out of the house.

I laugh as Landon bangs on the door. "Let me in!!!" he pleads from outside.

"Prem! Where are you?" I yell behind me, hoping she's in the living room.

"I'm in the living room!" she yells back.

"Make sure the front door is locked!" I scream to her.

"Alright." I hear her mumble and I see Landon sprint away, probably trying the front door.

I have a sudden realization. "Shoot." I mumble and sprint to lock the garage door which I completely forgot about.

I get to the door connecting the garage to my house and Landon is just shutting it as I get there. I spin around and try running away from him, but fail miserably. I end up slipping and falling face first to the floor. "Socks!" I scream throughout the house before my head hits the floor and everything blacks out.
