"You think I'm bluffing?" Xanth says, his voice deepening. "Close your eyes."
"What are you up to?" A shiver worms its way up my spine. I'm in fucking prison, not in school and need to remember who exactly I'm dealing with. Hardened criminals. He's being nice, but everyone in here committed a serious crime. Including Rowan, no matter how much attention he showers me with. I just need to be more cautious.
"Where's the trust?" he pouts. "I promise you'll like it."
"You promise it's not going to be something where I'm hurt or embarrassed?"
He tilts his head to the side, lips pursed. "Come on, angel, give me some credit."
I hesitate at first, but with the way he smiles and looks at me, I cave and close my eyes.
"Hold your hand out," he says, surprising me.
I crack open an eye.
"No peeking." He waits until I open my palm, then I feel his palm rest over mine.
Then he moves his hand, kissing my palm and sending shivers through me. Something settles in my hand.
