Hell's Emissary - The Legendary Tamer

My skin bears reminders of yesterday. They are roadside markers of my trips and falls, remnants I intend to burn to ashes, place in an urn and bury somewhere. People tell me to move on. Build a bridge. Get over it. When you clench your teeth and forge ahead you convince yourself the mind can be a clean slate untainted by dark colors of past trauma. You pretend that your skies will always be clear. A palette of gold and red, sunrise and sunset. Yet in sunshine a dark shadow lingers behind us every step. Our shadow wilfully follows, keeps pace with every step. I unclenched my teeth, ran my fingers along my scars. They whispered to me. I listened. I held hands with my shadow, now we walk together. Some scars never heal but how else could I know the way forward?.. So, I claim this body, this mind, this life as my own. And while I wish to share this life in kindness, compassion and empathy with others, I will not hesitate to defend when threatened. ... "...and when you wake in the morning finding that you still lie in hell, lick your lips, spit on the flames, and walk on through the fire."

Enraged Sea Serpent

"The results are much as we had hoped for. Please give a round of applause for the Protector..." Heaven shouted out aloud with a smile on her face.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

Cheer! Cheer! Cheer!

A thunderous applaud sounded all around the arena making everything pale in comparison.

{Hhmp! If only they knew a fraction of what we knew, they wouldn't be so courageous.} Cerberus sneered with contempt in its voice as it looked across the arena to the people who were just overjoyed.

"If one thing that I know and hope to remember is that we, humans, are very ignorant. And that is what always brings us to our doom." I commented as I also looked from the different kinds of faces all with their mouths wide open shouting only god knows what.

"Now if you have noticed something is that nothing like this has ever been witnessed in Acheron before. And I can promise you that nothing of such a magnitude to follow will be able to match today's events..."

"And I have to warn everyone before I forget again. Any harm that befalls anyone, they will be solely responsible as we didn't force anyone to attend today's fight..."

"The next beast is one of its kind, and probably the last one of its species in the whole world just like Cerberus. Now, now, now... Am warning you that no noise whatsoever should be heard again. Everything should be quiet as the dead or if you are tired of living then you can shout out loud..."

I started to feel unrest as a layer of perspiration adorned my skin making it glisten in the morning sunlight.

Looking beside Heaven, the King had a dark look as he conversed with Nevaeh on the other side.

But something seemed to be wrong as his visage turned sour after listening to what her daughter informed her.

From the look that he had while addressing his subjects earlier to the one that plastered his face at the moment, was that something so bad had happened and he seemed to be helpless about doing anything about it.

Something was wrong as I started to feel some butterflies in my stomach.

If the King still had his glorious look then I wouldn't be too worried, but now listening to Heaven giving out warnings to the crowd and seeing Sir. Mountain standing up and heading to the front rows before being followed by the other knights around, something fishy was about to happen.

{At least they can smell danger and prepare for it before it reveals itself.} Cerberus acknowledged as it looked through the arena that now had more knights surrounding the lower part of the first rows of the arena than anywhere else.

Tension rose as everyone grasped the meaning of all the events that they were seeing.

In an instant, after the warning was issued, the whole arena turned as silent as a graveyard as everyone processed that if the dog nearly made them soil their undergarments, then the next beast was more of a dark nightmare that no one wanted to witness but due to the thrill, everyone stayed rooted in their seats.

"Now I won't repeat myself... If anyone wishes to leave, now is the time. But if you are caught or heard to make even the slightest of noise, then am sorry to say this but you'll be thrown into the arena and I promise you that once you are in there, your fate is sealed. There is no escape whatsoever..."

An eerie silence enveloped the arena but not a soul was seen to be taking their leave.

"Then it is my utmost regret to present the next beast..."

Ta! Ta! Ta! Ta! Ta!

Ta! Ta! Ta! Ta! Ta!

With a wave of her hands, the rattling sounds of heavy metals sounded all across the stadium once again making everyone's gaze shift to the next large and heavy doors that were just a few meters from the door that Cerberus had come out from.

I held my breath and looked through to the slowly opening doors.

Subconsciously, I commanded the lance to stand in front of us as I followed the advice that Cerberus gave me.

It said that whatever beasts were in there, one was more ferocious and the other just seemed dormant.

A lot of questions emerged but I just pushed them back as I knew that my survival was the most important thing at the moment.

After some time, a dark large shape appeared in the cell. Two large eyes popped open inside the dark space.

A shiver ran down my spine as I met the creatures glowing red eyes. My heart skipped a beat as I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

With eyes the size of my head, how was I going to fight such a creature as I knew that it was just as enormous as the dog or even bigger?

With time, it slowly slithered out and took in the surrounding environment leaving behind a large deep trail.

In an instant, everyone's mouth fell wide open from shock of what they were witnessing. Due to the fear that continued to build up in their weak bodies, their hands subconsciously covered their mouths without them knowing preventing anything unexpected to happen.

The snake-like creature just took its time to familiarize itself with the surroundings.

After it was content with what it had seen, it rose slightly and turned its attention towards us as we stayed rooted to the spot following Cerberus's advice.

At this moment, I saw it in full view.

Its scales glinted in the light from the sun. Its eyes were every shade of blue, purple, gold, and green. Fins jutted out from its back and each was sharp enough to slice through iron.

At that moment, every fiber in my being urged me to flee but something else rooted me into place rendering me immobile.

It slowly opened its mouth as if yawning. I was left speechless by the rows of fangs that each looked longer than my height. And also the gigantic leathery forked tongue that seemed to be sizzling out a sound as if its saliva was being evaporated by an unknown source.

As all of these happened and everyone had their hearts on their sleeves, Heaven was just observing with a look of indifference.

She was waiting for the serpent to spot her in time as it couldn't do anything but obey Heaven alone.

It was her pet!

To its eyes, Heaven was like its mother as she has been taking care of it since even before it hatched probably.

But now wasn't the place to hold back as it saw the harsh conditions that it was in and was being subjected to was enough to just go berserk.

Given the body size, it could just wreak havoc of a greater magnitude than anyone could think of.

How could they put a sea serpent in a place that was filled with quicksand everywhere?

It was preposterous and unforgivable! Though it wasn't like it couldn't transverse, it just saw the action to be humiliating enough for a creature of its potential.

A low hissing noise escaped its mouth before I saw it charge towards my direction at an incredible speed.

{Prepare the lance, Master. That's our first layer of defense.} One of the dogs' heads warned as I commanded it to just spin in front of us making some kind of a barrier that threw the enormous black head off-balance after it chose to just pass through without a second thought.

Boom!

The sound was so deafening that a shockwave was released taking with it the sand in every direction.

Visibility was now slightly hindered but it didn't mean that I wouldn't be able to pinpoint its exact location.

After colliding headfirst into the barrier, it was in a daze as it looked through trying to figure out what on earth could stop its advancement.

Looking at it with my squinted eyes, I noticed something peculiar. Something that was just impossible not to happen.

Though it collided headfirst with a force to crush a boulder into pieces, not a single blood trail was seen. And this only meant one thing for me as I looked closer to its scales.

Annihilation!

Having a length of a plethrum, and as bulky that children of my size standing by it on either side could not see one another. Now the question for its scales came to mind.

They were as long as my arm and were closely fitted together making it impossible for anything to pass through.

How was I going to defeat such a creature that was fast and agile enough to appear by my side without even knowing? And those sharp and pointed teeth, how could I even escape its clutches once it gets a hold of me. And the scales that seemed to have made a fortress for its owner, it was just pointless even if I had Cerberus and the lance by my side.

This time, I knew that I couldn't swat it and my time has reached.

The time to die!
