Haven

~Some Mature content. Lesbian Romance.~ Running has always been a huge part of my life. Track, cross country, and now I've ran to the other side of the country with my mom. Running away from a true monster to hopefully find a place we can actually call home. A safe place... A Haven.

Chapter 4

Emma's POV:

I hurried to my sister-in-law's office. I need to get answers and quickly. I rushed into her office, slamming the door closed behind me.

"What the fuck is going on, Els?" I said with aggravation evident in my voice as I paced her office.

"Emma, you cannot interrupt Sessions!" She exclaims in an authoritative tone. I scoffed, then narrowed my eye at the jockey douche bag sitting across from her, blatantly staring at her boobs.

"Hey, captain of the perv squad, how about you fuck off and imagine her tits somewhere else!" I said, basically hissing at him. His face flushed red due to embarrassment, and he quickly exited the office. I rounded the chairs and plopped down with a huff as I heard Els scoff.

"Damn it, Emma. That wasn't necessary. He has a lot going on." She gave me a pointed look. As if I should be afraid of her... I'm significantly older than her and stronger. I raised my eyebrow at her, basically asking if she was serious.

"No, Els, what wasn't necessary was Pervy Jones practically burning holes into your boobs. I mean, seriously, he had a stupid 'Save the Ta-Tas' bracelet on, and oh yeah, he's got a lot going on in his pants for you. I mean, seriously, you know that his intentions are just to come in here and check you out. I could smell his arousal from across the country." I scoffed and rolled my eyes. Props to her for always wanting to help, but sometimes she's just blinded by trying to see the best in people, even though they are nothing more than perverts, which is like 85% of the male population. She sighed loudly.

"Whatever, Emma. Why are you here?" I scoffed at this; she knew precisely why I was here. She can see the future, for fuck sake.

"Oh, like you don't know why I'm here?" I could hear the venom in my voice.

"Enlighten me, Emma." She laced her fingers together and straightened up her back. She was looking completely poised, smug, and arrogant.

"I can't have another mate, Els. You know that. Adeline died a hundred years ago. We only get one, and she died. So explain to me what is going on." I gave her a pointed look, demanding answers. She sighed and dropped her head into her hands, and began rubbing her temples. She took another deep breath before looking back up at me, and I could tell I wasn't ready for her answer.

"She is your soulmate, Emma. I've seen it, and I know you've already felt the bond start between you two." I shook my head; this isn't possible; you only get one.

I got up out of the chair I looked at her again. I could feel the sadness creep into my heart, and I could see her eyes looking into me, showing empathy. She knew it still hurt. It may have been a hundred years since my mate died, but the pain never truly goes away. The saying time heals all wounds isn't super accurate. It's more like the bad days don't go away; they just get further and further apart, and today was a bad day. I sighed, turning around and making my way to the car.

"You can't run away from this forever, Emma. The bond has started. She needs you just as much as you need her." I heard Els in my head before I quickly cut off the link.

I took off to my secrete place. It was a cliff in the middle of nowhere that overlooked what felt like the world. Beautiful forestry meeting sandy beaches and waves crashing against the land and rocks. You could see what felt like miles and miles of ocean. I would sit there and just focus on where the sun met the water and just get lost. My sight would become so focused that it cut everything out around me, and it looked and felt like I was sailing on the water, coming closer and closer to the edge of the world.

I keep going over all the signs. The warmth, the possessiveness I have over her, The overwhelming desire to be near her, and feeling every emotion of hers as if they were my own. Everything is there in big neon letters flashing very brightly, but I still choose to ignore it. I know Els can't be lying nor my instincts, but my brain just won't believe them. We're only supposed to get one and only one, so why is it different for me? Why can't I just accept this gift and be grateful? Why am I fighting so hard to resist the bond?

I already know the answer, Adeline.

"Fuck!" I yelled as I felt a pain shoot through my nose, and my stomach was churning. That had to be Mila. I couldn't stop the pull to be with her, especially with her being hurt. I need to get back. It should be pretty much the end of the school day by the time I get back.
