Harry Potter: The art of divination

In 1972 Hogwarts receives a new and mysterious professor. The class of Divination was never the same after. The journey of Morpheus will be long and daunting can he finally reach his goal? - Au: there will be many changes to the world of Harry potter, such as some Gods will exist, and so will demons and angels. Not a Fix it fic, of course, some futures will change but the main focus will not be on fixing the future. SI: Mc is not reincarnated into this world Timeline: some characters might be younger or older disclaimer: So, most of this obviously belongs to J.K.Rowling. I'm just writing a fanfiction out of it. The cover art is sadly, not mine. ————- (P) (A) (T) (R) (E) (O)(N) LINK: patreon.com/Boogie324

Senses

*Morpheus pov*

"I know we already dug into the spells core principles but I wanted to spend some time digging further into why it's important to learn how to enhance certain senses," I said with a small grin seeing the students paying attention

"As I was explaining in our earlier classes using magic to enhance your senses can be extraordinarily helpful while practicing and using divination magic," I said while writing down the cardinal senses on the board behind me

"Professor?" a student called causing me to shift my focus, "Yes, Ms. Black?" I asked

"Didn't you say this spell was really hard to master?" she asked causing me to nod, "indeed it's on the more difficult spectrum,"

"Then why are we learning it now?" she asked before adding, "I just want to know if there is something special about learning it earlier,"

I shook my head I denial, "No there is no 'benefit' other than learning the spell early. But, many agree learning how to enhance your senses will go a long way with your improvement,"

Turning back to the board I smiled, "Now, let's talk sight. When using divination spells sight is often the most important sense, being able to 'see' the future, past, or present depending on your desire is paramount to the arts. When enhancing your sense of sight it is crucial to start with a small increase before making your way up. We do this for one important reason sometimes your mind protects you from seeing what you are not meant to see and if you enhance your sight too much the strain on your eyes and mind will be devastating," I grinned seeing them all taking careful notes, "Any questions before I move on?"

"If it's so dangerous why not teach us when we are older?" a student called out hesitation clear in their tone

I chuckled at his nervousness, "Do not be nervous to ask questions. But, let me answer your question with one of my own you all already know the spell and have practiced it with me in the past how many of you tried the spell on their own and found it hard to enhance their senses to the degree they wanted?" my question hung in the air it seemed some were afraid of raising their hands and being in trouble

Soon several students slowly raised their hands among them Narcissa and Marinette curiously Xenophilius didn't raise his hand, "I see, the reason for that is because you haven't truly mastered the spell yet. Yes, you know the spell, you can cast it but you haven't even begun to fully understand it. I am teaching you the spell now in hopes by the time you graduate you can manipulate your senses as easily as breathing,"

Seeing no one had any further questions I began again, "Next I will discuss the sense of Hearing. I'm sure you've all heard the tales of blind soothsayers, blind oracles, and such. Usually followed by a cheesy line such as 'In blindness I see more than you can fathom'. Such lines could be true but are almost always false, if they don't have mage sight of course. A friend of mine is blind and is considered a master of divination, he uses various spells to enhance his other senses but most of all he enhances hearing. In divination, you are sometimes swept into the vision captivated by the mesmerizing sights, and forget that what you hear is equally if not more important than what you see."

"But if you can't see the vision how do you know what's going on?" a student said brows furrowed in confusion

"Good question, it's truly different for everyone as you grow to learn how to manipulate your senses you understand your base senses better. Some have naturally better hearing than others and so on. My friend describes 'seeing' as using magic to enhance his sense of hearing to such a degree were he can hear everything around him, your breath, where your standing, etcetera. Of course, when combined with touch and smell this is increased significantly. There are some spells that require a better sense of hearing which blind diviners prefer. Does that answer your question?"

"Yes, professor,"

"Good, when practicing the sense of hearing make sure to start exceptionally slow much slower than any of the other senses as you can easily harm your eardrums. Now let's move on to the sense of touch,"

"Now that the lecture is out of the way for the remainder of class we will be doing practical lessons. Everyone take out your wand and begin to enhance your sight," I said while putting an easel and covered painting in front of the class

I began to walk around and make sure everyone was performing the spell correctly stopping by Marinette I tapped her shoulder, "Decrease your spell output just like we did during magical control lessons you are putting too much strain on your eyes,"

She nodded and tried again this time the spell was a little better, "Again,"

Finally, after three tries she accomplished the spell to where her eyes wouldn't hurt after a few minutes, "Good," I passed her desk and walked back to the front

"Take out a piece of parchment," I instructed watching as they did so in haste

"Now, I will take this sheet off of the painting, you will her ten seconds to see how many details you can gather, and then I will cover it and move backward," with that I pulled the sheet off the painting

Vapid looks of concentration surrounded the students as they tried to memorize every little detail.

Covering the painting I watched them begin to list what they saw, "Isn't this just memorization?" a student asked

Shaking my head I moved the painting back, "don't focus on the big objects but the small ones,"

After three repetitions of the sight exercise, I took their papers and handed out blindfolds, "Now enhance your sight," I did the same action of monitoring their spell use and helping where I could

"Put the blindfolds on and I will be walking around to make sure no one is cheating," I instructed while walking around the room

Sufficiently prepared I then announced the hearing exercise, "Now, I will be sounding different chimes in different areas of the room and they each have different tunes. Describe each tune and the location it was originally sounded. After each chime ring, I will allow you to take off your blindfold when I announce to,"

After about an hour of work, the students finished every exercise I had planned and class was just about to end. Taking up their papers I put them on my desk and smiled lightly, "You all did good today you should be proud, have a nice rest of your day,"

As they filed out of the room Narcissa turned and asked, "Are those being graded," I shook my head, "No just wait their purpose will be clear soon,"
