Asgardian Magic

"It is very… different." Harry answered. "I have not really spent much time here yet," Harry admitted. "so far I would have to say that it looks very beautiful, and the majority of people seem alright. Though one thing I am interested in knowing about is magic, what's is Asgardian magic like?" Harry asked curiously.

"Magic is something that Asgardians have studied extensively for many, many years." Sif replied. "Asgardian's do not see their magic as some elusive mystical energy like I am told most Midgardians do, in Asgard it is simply just considered to be a very advanced field of science and part of every living being. Our transportation, architecture, weapons and even medical care are based upon using a blend of magical forces and technology."

"Hmm, and how good are you all at magic?" Harry asked.

"If you are interested in magic then I would advise speaking to the Allfather or the Queen," Sif responded. "they are currently regarded as the best magic users, followed by Loki." She said, adding the last part reluctantly, looking as if it pained her to admit that.

"Really?" Harry frowned at that. "What about Thor? I mean… surely all that lightning he summons must be very advanced magic."

"It is indeed powerful magic," Fandral nodded. "Thor has a lot of power but he was born with the ability to throw lighting bolts whenever he wants and controlling the weather and so on and so forth."

"Yes," Sif nodded. "Thor never spent much time learning about magic like Loki did, he wanted to be a warrior."

"I don't understand," Harry replied. "if he wanted to be a warrior then shouldn't he have learnt more magic?"

"Asgardians mostly only learn specific magic for specific purposes," Sif explained. "for example a healer would learn as much healing magic as possible."

"Yes," Fandral said. "we for the most prefer to stick with our weapons like swords and shields. Not many learn more magic than necessary to get around."

"And why is that?" Harry raised an eyebrow.

"Well… magic is considered to be…" Fandral trailed off as he tried to think up the right word.

"What?"

"Well… feminine." Fandral answered with a small shrug of his shoulders. "Not really a warrior sort of thing."

"Feminine?" Harry repeated as he gave Fandral a 'are you fucking kidding me?' look, one that was mirrored by Padfoot. "Magic is considered feminine?" Harry asked, words had not yet been invented to describe the high levels of disbelief that Harry was currently experiencing.

"Well… yes." Fandral said awkwardly.

"Magic… is…'not really a warrior sort of thing'?"

"Well, sort of." Volstagg coughed.

"Magic… feminine… magic is not for warriors?" Harry repeated, wondering if he had heard right. "I should point out that with my magic I have killed more Chitauri than any of the other Avengers, including Thor."

"Oh finally, another person who shares my belief." A voice said, Harry and the group turned to see a woman standing in front of them. She was dressed in a mixture of blue and gold and wore a single sided gold breastplate, she had a few wrinkles on her face but did not look very old, she looked middle aged. She had brown long hair that in certain lights could look red, she had a kind smile on her face.

"My Queen." Sif said as she bowed while Volstagg and Fandral got up and quickly bowed. It was not missed by anyone that Harry did not bow, not even when Sif nudged him.

"You do not bow?" The Queen asked Harry without any anger, sounding more curious than anything else.

"I'm a big believer in earning respect." Harry shrugged as the others finished bowing.

"Hmm," The Queen gave him an appraising look. "I am Frigga, Queen of Asgard." She said, introducing herself.

"Harry Potter." Harry nodded. "So you are Thor's mother then?"

"That I am," Frigga smiled. "I'm sorry for interrupting your conversation, but I do get very interested when magic is mentioned."

"Ok but what is wrong with everyone when they decide they prefer swords to magic?" Harry couldn't help but ask.

"I wish I knew," Frigga sighed. "though if I had to guess I would say that many do not have the talent or natural born abilities for the more advanced aspects of magic and preferred to stick to swords, and while nearly everybody can do magic, many do not appreciate it since it has become such a common aspect of life."

"I understand." Harry said softly, the people in the wizarding world did not really appreciate magic. Even the muggleborns after a certain amount of time just got used to it, for most people it simply became a regular part of life, like homework and clothes.

"When Thor was a child he also preferred to know the bare minimum of magic," Frigga continued. "which is partly why I spent a lot of my teaching Loki." She added, a hint of sadness in her tone at the mention of Loki, she shook her head before she continued smiling. "Have you met my husband yet?" She asked.

"Yes." Harry nodded.

"And?"

"I don't think he likes me." Harry shrugged.

"Ah," She said, not sounding very surprised. "is the feeling mutual?"

"Very." Harry nodded.

"Well that is a shame." She frowned. "May I ask why?"

"He thinks that I am disrespectful, which I admittedly am when I want to be, and sometimes even when I don't want to be." Harry answered. "I think that he has forgotten that he is not an immortal and that the value of life is not dependent on how long it lasts."

"Hmm, many Asgardians have forgotten their own mortality, that is not a problem that is strictly limited to my husband." Frigga replied. Harry found some respect growing for the Queen, at least she could admit mistakes, that puts her above a lot of people Harry had met. Frigga looked thoughtful, she looked at Harry as if seeing through him. "You have lost someone." She said knowingly, quietly.. "I've seen the look in your eyes, I've seen it in the eyes of many before you, I am sorry for your loss." She said in an honest voice, Harry stared at her for several moments before he spoke.

"Thank you." He said quietly.
