Haikyuu: Ebbs and Flows

Written from the perspective of a washed-up athlete to best represent what an athlete in Haikyuu goes through. Some parts of this novel may have some resemblance to other novels, don't sue me.

Chapter 1: The Start

So yeah, I just woke up from last night's sleep, and found myself in the Haikyuu world. Am I shocked? Of course I am. Maybe this is just a dream, but I'm a bit overwhelmed to say the least. Will I be able to ever meet my real family ever again? I don't know, but there's no point in denying and getting chronically depressed.

Although I understand that I'm fucked in a certain sense, I have a pretty cool opportunity in front of me, so I intend to enjoy myself, and then whatever happens, happens. I just turned on the TV and realized it was the Haikyuu world, as the volleyball tournament occurring had players who I knew from the anime. After making this revelation, I searched around for ID, to check who I was. My name was Sei Hachimura, 14 years old, final year of junior high in some random school in Miyagi prefecture (hell yea). I then went to the mirror and checked my appearance, hoping I wasn't downright ugly or horribly groomed.

Thankfully, I was decent looking, pretty athletic looking, and was neat and clean. That's a relief. I think I'm about 5'9, have brown hazel eyes and jet black hair. If I put a little more effort into my appearance, I can be pretty handsome. Alright, lets stop trying to emulate Ronaldo with the crazy obsessive self-love lol.

I left my room and went down the two-storied house to the kitchen, where I saw my mother, father and younger brother. From my memories, I had a pretty good relationship will all of them. My mother, Shizuka Hachimura, had dark brown hair and looked 30, despite being 40. My father, Kota Hachimura, wore glasses and was a tall stern man (ex-military dude), though was very loving. Finally my younger brother, Yuta Hachimura, aged 10, was a happy-go-lucky kid who was a huge basketball fan and nerd (he wears glasses).

Mom: "Good morning Sei. We have pancakes and waffles for breakfast. Do you want some maple syrup?"

Me: "Good morning mom. Yes I would love some syrup please."

With that response, I sat down and greeted my father and brother.

Kota (Little bro): "Brother, today's the last day of junior high for you right?"

Me: "That's correct. We're gonna get our report cards back today."

Kota: "You'll be fine. You always do so well at academics and sports."

After talking to my family, I left for school and it was pretty mundane. I was not super popular or have too many friends, I kept mostly to myself. On the way back from school, I decided to explore the town a bit. I was able to find Hinata's current school, Yukigaoka Junior High, but decided against meeting Hinata for the moment.

Despite school being extremely boring, I was able to decide what I wanted to do with my time and energy in this world. I was going to try to be a dominant volleyball player, because why not. In my previous life, I was an athlete and was thus very competitive, hence the reason for my decision. At the moment I was only decently athletic, but had no real volleyball skills, experience or volleyball IQ.

Thankfully, I have a summer break before going to high school. But fuck, the summer break's only 6 weeks long, so I don't know how much I will be able to learn in these few weeks. Well, time to get on my grind.

As soon as I got home, I left my backpack and ran to the local gym (I had a membership), to test my athleticism. I got on the treadmill and did some intense sprints for 45 minutes. Alright, so my stamina is decent, not great though. After, I did some weight lifting and tested my limits. I felt pretty strong so I pushed through some hard reps. Once I completed my workout, I went to buy a salad and watched some volleyball videos, to get an idea of what I was training for.

After completing my salad, I did some box jumps to activate my calves, hamstrings, quads and glutes. Thereafter, I went to the vertical jump equipment to check my vertical jump (no shit sherlock). First I did a stationary jump, and got an impressive 34 inches (not bad too start with). Then I did a vertical jump with a running start, and got up to 45 fucking inches! Which means at my apex, I can reach a height of 9'6. Holy crap, not as great as Hinata, but he's a monster. I'm a monster in my own right too, and I'm only gonna improve!

This gave me enough inspiration to push myself to the limits
