"Jack", I heard Emma's voice as I reached the school building.
"Morning", I greeted.
"Morning...", She was out of breath. "What happened?", I asked.
Before she could say anything, a boy from the second year bumped onto me. Pamphlets and flyers in hands fell on the floor. "Sorry sorry.", He said. We both helped him. I took one pamphlet. It was the announcement of the prom.
'It's that time around the year again.'
"It's prom, isn't it?"
I looked up. Emma was looking at me. "Yeah", I replied. I turned to enter the building. Emma was saying something. We heard a noise. There was a commotion at the entrance. "What's this all about?", I tried to look through the crowd. It was her! She was wearing a yellow sundress with an off-white knitted cardigan. She blew dried her hair today and fixed them with faux braid hairband. She had kept her makeup minimum, just a fine line of eyeliner with lip gloss. My stomach felt cold from inside. She was there, standing in front of me.
'Goddess!'
People from football team surrounded her. Our eyes met. She smiled at me. I also smiled and said to myself, "Good morning, Veronica."
Veronica Redcliff, my childhood friend. I doubt no one even knows this. We were together when we were young. Then she moved with her parents to California and came back two years ago. I was happy when I heard she was back. Veronica had become famous as one of the pretty teen models. I heard she was working with her elder brother on their new project of cosmetic products. Many boys had a crush on her now. But the real Veronica, only I know her. I know she liked the donuts at Mia's bakery the most, and even now, when she's on the strict diet, she sneaked into my house to eat it… Ah, last time something like this happened was around a year ago…
"Veronica!", A blonde guy came in and hugged her.
'Jefferson!, I hate this guy! He likes her too I guess. Now Veronica's smiling at him. Wait… Is she blushing? Of course she is! To whom am I lying to?' I sighed.
Veronica! She is interested in Jefferson. I can see that. I know her too well. Maybe… That's why it hurts more. For Veronica, only external things matter! She's shallow by that way. But I can't help but to fall for this more. My unrequited love…..
I turned and took the staircase. Emma was behind me.
"I have a chemistry lab. Yours?", She asked.
"Mechanics.", I murmured. I wasn't in a mood since I saw Jefferson and Veronica together.
I didn't know but Emma was staring at me. Then she turned and said, "Today, I was chasing after you when I saw you entering the gate." I looked at her back. I didn't understand what she's saying.
"What?", I asked subconsciously.
"See you later", she left.
