Knowledge is Great but Time is Better.

I answered with honesty. What else could I truly say?

[I know that Bastion, I can see that from your recent memories and from your <Status>.] The voice in my head said with slight frustration. [What I'm asking you is who are you really?]

'How am I supposed to answer that when I don't have the answer for it. Plus even the system seems confused as to who I am. It even made the comment on the Ranking of the Quest - Take back what's yours.' I explained. 'I mean hell it even said good luck.'

The voice in my head acknowledged what I said, but I felt like it wouldn't be the end of it since it was going to be a continuous quest.

'I won't lie, I am as surprised as you are… uh, do you even have a name or did you maybe find a name you like when you looked through my lack of memories.' I asked with slight embarrassment as I seemed to forget about Ulrich.

[Like I said before I don't have a name as I'm only the assistant to your system. But I did find one that I liked from your memories. Why don't you guess.] The voice in my head said with a little excitement at the end.

'Karen?' I teased.

[Say something moronic like that again and I'll kill you. And don't think I'm not capable.] The voice in my head said with no room for doubt.

'I believe you. Uh, I'm not the best at guessing names. Could I possibly get a hint.'

[It's the name of a flower.]

I closed my eyes as I tried to think of a possible name of a flower that the voice in my head would have picked for its name. Multiple different flowers started to flow through my memories as a few started to seem to fit.

'Lily?'

[No, but I did like that one.] The voice in my head answered.

'Iris?' I asked with a tilt of my head.

[Iris, no. Nice flower but not the one I picked. I mean the one I picked usually requires gloves to pick.] The voice in my head spoke with a slight whisper in the end.

The little whisper in the end was everything I needed to know to figure out the name that the voice in my head chose for her name. I was even a little surprised as in a way I felt that the name she chose seemed to fit perfectly.

'Rose.' I said with a slight smile as Rose started to giggle slightly in my head.

I finally opened my eyes after figuring out Rose's name only to remember that I completely forgot about Ulrich waiting patiently with his hands behind his back.

He didn't even seem to be upset or annoyed that I seemed to have forgotten about him. Rather it seemed like he expected it to happen.

"So, did you have a decent conversation with your systems assistant?" Ulrich asked with a knowing smile. "And before you speak, there is no need to apologize as it's definitely bound to happen."

I scratched the back of my head while nodding. "I guess that is a good thing to know. So does everyone get a system and an assistant to it?" I asked with interest, plus I also was trying to find out as much information I could about this world.

Ulrich smiled as he indicated that he wanted me to follow him as he slowly started to turn around.

I had multiple reasons not to follow Ulrichl, but at the same time I didn't really have a better option currently. So I stood up and followed after him.

"That's a decent question. And no actually. It's normally only you Otherworlders that get a system like that. Normally everyone is just granted a system." Ulrich answered and continued as he headed toward what looked like a wooden building.

"But, there were the rare few that did get a system with an assistant but normally those that did were found to be either the lucky few or of status. And even the rarer of the rare were able to evolve their system."

I was a little stunned by Ulrich's answer. Mostly because he said that there were some that were able to upgrade their system. But I'm pretty sure the ones that were able to upgrade their system probably did something beyond insane to accomplish it.

I was about to ask another question until I saw the wooden building that Ulrich was leading us to.

[Bastion, just where is this old man taking us?] Rose asked with slight concern in her voice.

'I think it's his place of residence. But I really hope it's not since it doesn't even have a full roof.' I answered with the same concern Rose asked.

[Half a roof. Bastion, parts of the wall are missing. The door is literally swaying with no wind mind you. And the best and cherry on top, there is a literal sign that says 'home' on it.] Rose didn't hold back as she tore apart Ulrich's house without hesitation.

I was trying to be a little nice or try to show… yeah no she wasn't wrong with anything she said. If anything, that sign is a lie. Home? No, if anything it's a broken down shack that could be destroyed with a slight breeze.

Ulrich was still continuing to head in the direction of the shack with no pause in his step. He even seemed to pick up his pace as he got closer as it seemed like he was almost in a hurry.

"I hope you can overlook the current state of my home as there is a slight draft. But there is a reason for its current state. Plus we should probably make haste to it as we only have until the sun starts to rise before your guard escort will arrive to take you to the King." Ulrich said clearly as he stopped and seemed to look off into the distance.

"Knowledge is great, but Time is better. And at the current moment Time is not on your side currently. But if you live after what comes next you'll have both Time and Knowledge that will be on your side. And before you ask if I'm an NPC."

The moment Ulrich stopped talking I discovered that I had trouble breathing for a very long second as I felt like I forgot how to as a soft elderly voice spoke with no emotion.

"This will be your last and only warning from me. If anything this is a mild reaction. I've seen those killed for less." Ulrich said.

{Bing, bong.}

{Quest - Job Inheritance.}

Quest Rank - SSS

Description: Survive what comes next and inherit the Job of Ulrich Braune and all its duties and everything that comes with it.

Quest List: Survive. Plain and simple, just survive again, easy right.

Reward: Acquire the Divine ranked job Keeper of the Graves.

Special: Seriously, how are you getting stuff like this. Are you someone special? No, that can't be true, I mean if anything you're very unlucky based on your recent memories. So if I had to truly guess your going on a very suicidal mission soon.

X2 Special: Did he warn you about calling people NPC's? Damnit! Well there goes a laugh. Dick.

"... are all systems?"

"Yes." Ulrich answered with a stone cold voice.

"Then your warning is warranted." I answered Ulrich's warning with a firm understanding of the reality of this world.

[Can you ask him if there is a way to change it if possible? Cause I just did a quick check through to see if there was anything in the systems menu for it and there's nothing.] Rose asked with a little frustration in her voice.

Ulrich seemed to have read my mind as he held up his hand.

"To answer the assistant's question, yes. But unfortunately we don't have the time for that as you need to learn some of the most important basics of this world. Such as increasing your stats which is a lot harder than you think. As well as the state of the kingdom."

Ulrich slowly turned around as he started walking in the direction of his house.

[He's strong, Bastion. Very strong.] Rose spoke up after a couple of seconds.

'I can tell. Even though the system is a dick, it's definitely helpful in a way. But still it's a dick.' I answered as I started to follow after Ulrich.

'And from the look of things he plays the fool in front of everyone. Is there a way you're able to look at the memory like a spectator and see and hear things I wasn't able to?' I asked Rose

[There is a chance. Give me a moment and I'll see what I can do.] Rose answered before it felt like I could only feel a very small presence of her.

It didn't take that long to reach the so-called entrance of Ulrich's house as he stopped before the entrance.

"I just remembered." Ulrich said with an elderly voice as he turned around with a smile. "You never answered my question earlier. Did you receive a letter in your inventory?"

"I did, yes, why?" I asked with a small question of my own.

"Don't open it yet. Give it some time and you'll understand what I mean." Ulrich answered with a nod before he walked through the door like it was never there.

"How strong is this old man? It's like something out of a fantasy book yet it's not." I said to myself as I walked right through the door.
