"Was it him?"
"..." Amanda Smith fell silent.
Actually, there was no need to hide it from Evan Willow. In this world, apart from the young master she treasured in her heart, who else could bully her?
She was not someone who would just accept her fate. To grow up safe and sound in the Johnson family, a household that devoured its members alive, she owed it not only to Mr. Johnson's care but to her own capabilities as well. How could it be possible otherwise?
However, her self-protective methods, in the eyes of Samuel Johnson, were nothing but signs of a scheming mind.
He didn't care whether she was doing well or not. He only wanted to see what he wished to see...
Evan Willow remained silent for a long while, eventually resorting to helplessness. He stretched out his hand to hold Amanda Smith's, and said to her, "Alright, let's go back."
Amanda was led by him out of the bar. A stretch limousine was already waiting at the entrance, and an assistant dressed in a black suit was standing by the door. Seeing Evan coming out, he opened the car door for them to get in.
"Do you want to go home?" Evan asked, looking down.
Amanda shook her head, "I don't want to."
Samuel Johnson might dislike her, but it was rare for him to lay hands on her, except on a few occasions when he was furious to the extreme.
And today, he was truly angry...
Amanda's eyes began to blur slightly.
She didn't really understand why that person could scold her so indiscriminately. It wasn't her fault, yet she wasn't given a chance to explain herself...
To dislike someone so much, is it because even sharing the same air with them becomes unbearable?
Her demeanor visibly saddened. Evan observed her face without showing his feelings, a trace of pity flashing through his eyes. He sighed helplessly and said to her, "Then stay at my place tonight."
Amanda smiled gratefully at him, "Evan, you are so kind."
Evan shook his head and took out ice chips from the mini-fridge to apply on Amanda's swelling, "Still smiling, your face is all swollen..." His tone was full of unstoppable tenderness.
It was impossible to determine when exactly Amanda and Evan had first met; they were such unrelated people who just ended up knowing each other, and once they did, it had already been seven or eight years.
Amanda didn't know what the Willow family's business was. Ever since she knew him, she had never seen his parents. The boy who used to wear traditional robes and short hair had turned into a young man with flowing long hair, like a prince imprisoned in a castle, always living in that ancient villa.
She had even investigated that villa specifically but never found any information. It was as if suddenly one day, a villa was built on that plot of land, and then the Willow family moved in.
It all seemed very mysterious.
Whenever Amanda was bullied by Samuel and her heart was hurt, she would come here to heal. Evan had specially arranged a guest room for her to stay in; there was only an old butler taking care of Evan in the villa, and over the years, they had become familiar with each other.
"Young Master, you are back!" The old butler who had been waiting at the door hurried to open it for Evan as soon as he saw him. Evan gave some instructions to the old butler, then continued to lead Amanda upstairs to the room specifically for her.
"Young Master, the medicated plaster has arrived!" The old butler delivered the medicated plaster that Evan had asked for.
Evan took it and handed it to Amanda, "Remember to apply it, or it will be even more swollen tomorrow."
