Mrs. Johnson sighed heavily, as Samuel's brows furrowed tighter and tighter.
How could Amanda possibly provoke that kind of person?
Samuel thought there might have been some misunderstanding.
But kidnapping is not the kind of mistake that can be explained away easily by a misunderstanding.
"Samuel, what do you think he wants with Amanda?" Mrs. Johnson asked, hands clasped and trembling with fear, "I'm feeling a bit anxious. We're supposed to exchange her tomorrow at five; can we find her before then? The hill behind is so vast, how easy can it be to find two people?"
Samuel gave her a glance: "Who said anything about an exchange?"
"I didn't mean that..." Mrs. Johnson replied weakly, "How could I possibly think of exchanging Amanda? I... I'm just scared. What if we can't save her, won't Tasha die?"
