"I.. um..I'm.. s- sorry" she lowered her head and said timidly.
He frown even more "I didn't mean to scare you" His voice was so low that she didn't hear him.
Seeing her like this made him curse himself inwardly.
"What are you doing here?" he asked. There was no accusation this time, only curiosity.
There was no way he expected her to tell him about her phobia. Thinking hard, she chose to tell him half of it.
"I am scared of thunder and I can't sleep with the noise" her eyes landed on the headphone. His face softened.
He took the headphone and raised it up "I'm scared of rain" he said it like it was nothing.
He dropped it beside the bed, silence surrounded them after their revelations.
"I am scared of rain though I normally block the sound with my headphones, I saw how tensed you were a while ago so I'm sure that method wouldn't work for you." He said simply.
"But you slept. Correct me if I'm wrong, I think you managed to sleep because you are in my room... don't ask me how because I also don't know" he said when he saw that she was about to speak.
It became quiet again, probably thinking if what he noticed was true.
"Do you trust me?" She raised her head and nodded slowly. "You can sleep here whenever it rains" he innocently implied.
She hesitated, "No, I can manage."
"I can't let you suffer insomnia under my care" he got down from the bed "except you'll stop working for me" he said seriously.
"N-No you can't do that" she panicked.
"Actually I can" be said as a matter of fact "especially if it keeps my conscience clean, so..."
"F-Fine I will" she rushed to say.
And after that deal she became familiar with his room which became her own room. It brought them closer slowly, when they woke up every morning and greeted each other there's always that feeling of a couple bringing contentment to their hearts.
He realized his feelings for her grew deeper with time making him unable to stay away until finally he told her his dilemma, the joy he felt when she shared her feelings too, they went into a relationship after agreeing that they can't fight or deny their true feelings.
( Back to the present )
He led her towards their room "I'll give you a nice massage after we're done" he whispered into her ear "what do you say?" she blushed, fully aware of the meaning his words carried.
___
One year later
"Dude you can't be serious."
"And why is that Christian?."
"You are just twenty five dude."
"What does that have to do with anything?" Came a weak voice
"Dude we are talking about marriage here" the person's voice slowly raised.
"Hmm so..?" He asked calmly
"You can't possibly be telling me you are getting married next week"
"I am, Chris" said with a sigh.
"Come on James you and I know the word marriage is not something to joke with" he stated "beside you just met her"
James frowned hearing his lame reasons.
"We have known each other for a year and six months, Chris" he replied.
"But that's not enough, she might not be the right one"
He was finally pissed "Chris are you happy for me or not"
"How can I be? I'm very disappointed right James"
"So am I" and before the other person could respond he ended the call.
He sighed massaging his nape, he closed his eyes and threw his head back with a sigh while recalling the conversation with his friend who seemed to disapprove of his marriage.
"Sir, is there something wrong?"
He opened his eyes and saw his assistant's worried expression.
He didn't need an assistant but the firm he worked insisted, probably thinking it might lessen his work and keep him with them since he never really wanted to stay for this long at first. His assistant was still growing in the field before he gradually trained him on his professionalism.
"How's the new case coming up?" He ignored the question.
"It's going well sir though Mr Marcus wanted to let you know that you can join whichever party you like, he even suggested you go for the accused if needed" he reported.
He always knew that de Marcus were very sly and cunning, they always used their crafty ways to get want they wanted, he was using them to safe their victims, speaking of victims, he remembered Theo who unfortunately came across them, he wanted to help her seek justice but she was solemn with her answer.
Thank God she stayed back, she was always at home, the only place she went to was the market but after that she's always home and sometimes with him.
"No I'm okay with where I am" he said with no room for arguments.
"Understood sir" he kept the file he held on the table "if there's nothing more then I will take my leave sir."
All alone again, he sighed again. He never knew one day he will be stressed out while thinking about his love life, he smiled. He can't wait to get married. Next week, don't worry just next week.
He encouraged himself, then he frowned as he remembered his friend's discouraging words. Damn that kill-joy.
