CHAPTER 17

Nolan ran to his car and sat there for a while.

Am I supposed to pick up my things and dash out to America? Why do things keep going wrong at the wrong timing? Nolan said in his head frustratedly as he held back his tears.

He brought out his phone from his pocket and placed a call across to the chief director.

"Uncle, are you at your office?" Nolan asked over the phone as he took the call.

"What type of answer do you want me to give to you? Because right now, you don't sound alright. Did something happen? Did you speak with your mother?" He asked and Nolan looked away.

"Professor Nolan! Professor!" Alina called out worriedly as she ran to the parking lot.

"Professor! Where are you? Please where are you?" Alina called out looking around.

Nolan heard Alina's voice and he wiped off his tears.

That's Alina's voice. Nolan said in his head in shock and he look out of the window.

"Uncle, let's talk some other time" Nolan said and hung up.

He came out of his car and head to Alina's direction.

"Alina" Nolan called staring at her and she ran to him.

She gave him a tight hug, patting his back.

"Everything will be alright professor. You will be fine but please don't cry" Alina said softly as she pat his back.

Nolan smiled and wrapped his arms around her.

"You do care. Thanks for running to me" Nolan said slowly and Alina broke the hug.

"You sound fine" Alina said looking away as she felt a bit awkward.

"Of course, I'm fine and I'm not some crybaby so why do you think I was crying" Nolan uttered jovially and Alina turned around.

What was I thinking? I was so impulsive again. This is so embarrassing. Alina said in her head and covered her face with her palms about to walk away.

"Where are you going?" Nolan asked playfully and gave Alina a hug from behind, wrapping his arms around her shoulders.

"I don't have to shed tears before I deserve a hug. Don't I deserve a free hug?" Nolan asked and Alina smiled secretly.

"You don't because you don't need to be pitied. You're way stronger than that professor" Alina said and broke the hug.

Alina walked away and Nolan ran behind her.

"You think so highly of me, I'm honoured" Nolan said with a smile.

"I've got to rush back to my desk. I still have to finish up the reports you gave me" Alina said.

Does that mean, she still has plans to go to that guy? I can't let her go to him. Nolan said in his head.

He quickly placed his phone in his ears.

"What's wrong with you? I clearly told you to allow nurse Alina do it. How can you make such a stupid mistake. You will have to explain to me exactly why you let that happen" Nolan fakes a call then walked away from Alina. He immediately dropped a text for a nurse.

"What's wrong? Did something happen?" Alina questioned and walked behind Nolan.

They went into the hospital.

"Nurse Alina, some patients have been added to your check-up list. Please come with me" A nurse said to Alina and she looked at Nolan.

"Go ahead. I will see you later" Nolan said and sneaked away.

Oh gosh! That was so childish. Nolan said in his head as he walked away.

Matthew and Aria were done having lunch.

"Thanks for the food" Matthew said and Aria walked to the sitting room leaving all the dishes on the table.

"You're not clearing the table?" Matt asked and Aria glared at him.

"I prepared lunch so clear up the table and wash the dishes. Didn't your mother teach you that" Aria said sarcastically and Matt walked up to her.

"I didn't ask you to prepare the food and is that the way you will treat your husband when you get married?" Matt asked seriously.

"You're not my husband and I'm not getting married to you. We're just two young people who had lunch so be a gentleman and do the dishes. Stop whining" Aria said with her eyes on her phone.

"How can you be so rude when asking for a request? I get it that you want me to do the dishes but I've never done that before and I don't just do dishes for anyone"

"Spoilt brat," Aria mumbled.

"Oh, I forgot for a second that you're a wealthy billionaire who doesn't do dishes but I think that fame and wealth of yours, you left it outside before coming into my house" Aria said sarcastically.

"Rude girl" Matt uttered then walked back to the table.

He packed all the plates to the washing sink.

"I'm just being a gentleman and that's why I'm doing the dishes. Don't take me for some maid" Matt complained as he wore some gloves and began to do the dishes.

Some minutes later...

Aria looked at the kitchen because Matt was taking quite some time just doing the dishes.

"Matthew!" Aria called but Matt didn't respond.

"Matthew, what are you doing?" Aria asked as she stood up and he turned around.

"I'm doing the dishes. Matt is doing the dishes" Matt yelled and Aria boost into laughter on seeing Matt's clothes and face.

She ran to the kitchen as she cracked even more.

"I only told you to do the dishes not look like a dirty dish. What on earth happened to you? Why do you look like this? Did you happen to get into the washing sink?" Aria laughed as she tried to wipe off the foams on Matt's shirt.

"You made me go through this and you've got the nerve to even laugh at me" Matt pouted and Aria couldn't stop laughing.

"Don't worry I will take it from here. You poured out all the washing soap on just two plates. You're so spoilt" Aria said as she helped him take off his gloves.

Matthew glanced at Aria as she took the gloves off with a wide smile on her lips.

"This is the first time you're smiling in front of me" Matt pointed out and Aria looked away with a frown.

"You're so serious" Matt teased.

"What's so hard about doing the dishes?" Aria said slowly.

"Be careful, don't ruin your clothes and are you running short of breath because you're doing the dishes. You nagged about doing the dishes" Matt said as he shook his head.

"You're lucky I'm helping you do it. I usually don't help people do dishes"

"Our dishes" Matt pointed out and turned on the tap of the other sink as he helped Aria with the dishes after washing them.

Later that evening...

Nolan sat in his office trying to get a hold of some of his medical friends back there in America.

"Michael can you please help me get a hold of my mum's hospital report? I think her case is critical and I don't wish to make a fuss about it before finding out the real status of her case" Nolan said anxiously over the phone.

"It won't be easy getting her reports because the hospital is strict about patients treatment but I will try my best to get it for you. Don't worry much about it Nolan, everything will be fine. I will check up on her, one of this days" Michael said and Nolan nodded positively.

"Thank you so much, man. You have no idea how much this means to me. Thanks man" Nolan said and hung up.

I hope you're fine mum. Nothing should happen to you. Nolan said worriedly in his head as he placed another call.

"Matt can you help me book" Nolan couldn't finish his statement when Alina came into the office without knocking.

"I will call you back, Matt" Nolan said and hung up.

"Oh my goodness, I'm so exhausted" Alina sighed tiredly then sat on the couch.

Nolan walked up to her.

"You didn't even bother to knock" Nolan uttered and Alina raised up her hand tiredly.

"See, I'm way too tired to even knock. I can't feel my fingers anymore. Sorry for not knocking professor" Alina said faking a sad face.

Nolan smiled and sat down next to her.

"You always find a way of making me forget my worries for a moment" Nolan said with a sad smile.

"Professor, I'm done for the evening. Let's go have dinner" Alina said and stood up.

"You're asking me out for a dinner date?" Nolan flirted and Alina looked away.

"Not even in your wildest dreams professor. I'm only looking for a dinner buddy not a date. Do you always read meaning into things like this?" Alina asked and Nolan stood up.

"Yes, I read meanings into everything and that's why I don't mind having a dinner date with you. Treats on me" Nolan said with a smile and walked to the door.

He turned around.

"You don't wish to have dinner anymore? Do you want to say no to food?" Nolan teased.

"It's not a date, we're just having dinner. Let's go professor" Alina said blushing secretly.

"Are you sure it's just a simple dinner? Are you sure you're not trying to win me over with a pretense of having dinner with me?" Nolan teased and Alina walked out of the office.

Nolan ran behind her.

"Actually professor, I don't think I will be able to finish the report so please can I go home early tomorrow?" Alina asked with a cute face as she turned to him.

"Are you trying to bribe me and that's why you're asking me to be your dinner buddy?" Nolan asked.

Wait a minute, it's about the jerk again. Nolan said in his head seriously.

"Do you really want to go to him that badly?" Nolan asked calmly.

"Who? What do you mean professor?" Alina asked blinking nervously.

"I noticed since you received his text, you've been looking for ways to meet up with him"

"Ok fine, yes. I want to meet up with Falcon. I have no idea what he wants to say to me, what if it's something very important" Alina said and Nolan held her hand.

"It's getting late, let's go have dinner. Let's talk about it when we get there" Nolan said and they got into the elevator but he didn't let go of Alina's hand.

They came out of the elevator.

"Professor I need to get changed" Alina said looking at her hand and Nolan let go of her hand slowly.

Why did he suddenly sound so different? Alina questioned in her mind as she got changed in the changing room.

She came out after getting changed.

"Can we go now?" Nolan asked and Alina nodded.

They drove down to a fancy restaurant.

Nolan helped her with her seat.

"You don't have to professor" Alina said as Nolan helped her with her chair.

"You've never been in a relationship before right?" Nolan asked out of the blue and Alina looked away.

"Why...why did you ask?" Alina stuttered.

"You're only curious about what that falcon of a guy said to you but right here, you've got a relationship expert. I will tell you exactly what he wants to say to you" Nolan said jovially as he sat down quickly.

"What!"

"In cases like this, you shouldn't make it obvious that you're curious. Why are you even curious?"

"What's wrong about that? Is it a bad thing to be flirted with even for a moment or for the first time. What's wrong with reciprocating the attention? Falcon made it obvious that I'm perfect and he finds me interesting" Alina said.

"Just that? But I see you more than that Alina, didn't you notice?"

"Notice what?" Alina asked curiously.

"I love it whenever you're around me. Do you get it now" Nolan confessed as his heartbeat raced.

"I don't understand professor" Alina uttered slowly and Nolan ruffled his hair.

"How can you not understand what I just said" Nolan uttered.

Alina laughed out loud.

"I'm sorry professor but I find you really cute when you act like this" Alina laughed.

Did she just call me cute? Nolan said excitedly in his head and held his heart as it raced heavily.
