Did you say dragon?

"Why did you suddenly ask me that? You should already know the answer anyway." She laughed at how direct her daughter's gaze on her was.

"Something tells me you were the Princess with the royal blood who didn't like being in the spotlight, like me." She wiggled her brows at her mother.

"You are as smart as you are beautiful." Her mother commended, indirectly testifying to her guesses being correct, feeling a little shy to own up to that useless title which brought grief in her past.

"Wow! I'm a daughter of pure royal blood, so what does that make me?" She turned to her father once again for better explanation, enjoying his better.

"Pure royal blood is only akin to true female heirs who were said to be descendants of our forefathers who were blessed by the great dragon to the female who had helped care for him while he was just a hatchling. It was due to her care that he bestowed on her what is known as the pure royal blood, said to awaken great powers." He explained to the best of his ability.

"But no Princess ever showed proficiency to the said power, but in hopes of ever being in possession of such human based power, it became a rite to marry the offspring of the pure royal blood first daughters or in our case our only daughter as it is known to be passed down when they come of age." He explained sadly.

"D-did you say dragon?" Her lips quivered, so did her breath hitch at the thought of Skun but thought it could be possible her father wasn't talking about him anyways.

"Yes I did, although we read them as fairy tales, they were or should I say real, legend says the destined Princess would befriend a dragon and she would awaken them." He nodded his head.

Mae's eyes widened in horror, her head went blank after he had explained, she began to take a trip down memory lane. Now things were starting to line up in just the right places.

"Mae? Are you alright? You look a little pale." Vivian observed, standing up from her chair, she rushed over to her daughter's side, holding her cheek and examining her.

"I uh–" Mae began but then went blank for a brief moment. "Has there been any news about a dragon sighting?" She decided to test the waters.

"Yes, a very long time ago. It was what caused the war between the three Kingdoms and ours. They had wanted to capture the dragon for their selfish means, that way the pure royal blood would never be able to awaken her powers nor would whoever wanted to marry her ever have the hope of having a descendant in line to the throne with such fearsome powers." King Morgan replied.

"Ah! I see." Mae laughed in denial, she couldn't believe what she was hearing, so how could she explain the dragon she had come in contact with?

"Mother I'm fine." She smiled, getting tired of her prying hands on her face.

"I'll take your word for it." She eyed Mae before slowly withdrawing to her seat.

"Could you tell me how the dragon escaped?" She had finally found her new found curiosity.

"When the three Kingdoms forged an alliance to withhold the dragon, they had unwittingly waged a war against the said prophecy, Vivian was meant to be in contact with the dragon but instead they brought a deal saying either I renounce my wife or she never gets to be in possession of the dragon." He sighed in bitter memory.

Mae looked over at her mother who had the same expression, she had known her mother to have a nervous habit of playing with her nails when she was in an uncomfortable situation.

"Your father decided to break his ties with the three Kingdoms, and we decided to settle with the little we had at our disposal. The only thing we had that was also as precious as being pure royal blood was the fountain." Vivian finally spoke.

"You mean the magical fountain that springs diamond instead of water for our Royal family." Mae questioned.

"That's where everyone gets it wrong and only the three Kingdoms know about this fact–that only the pure royal blood can hold these diamonds." She clarified.

"So I guess that's why they still hold our Kingdom in high prestige." Mae rolled her eyes.

"I had no choice but to accept the offer, I couldn't put the peace I had worked so hard for in danger. I am deeply sorry for making you go through this, but in the letter it clearly stated as the long tradition stands they are eligible to come participate as you are the new and of age Princess with pure royal blood." He looked apologetically at her, hopeful she could forgive him.

"How about the dragon? Any news on its whereabouts?" She questioned.

"None yet, and if it is true, it's best they do not find out about its reappearance, wherever it is, it's best it stays hidden." His voice turned serious.

"Oh!" Mae's eyes looked downcast, how could she tell her parents she had been in contact with a dragon, and it had been in their Castle all along? Or the fact that she had awakened her powers?

At the very least, she finally understood why she had suddenly developed weird abilities. But one thing still confused her, did Elvis and Skun know about this? She would have to find out for herself.

"It is for the best." She muttered.

"What?" Morgan asked with a raise of his brow.

"Oh." Mae looked to her side at her father, she had totally forgotten she had said that out loud, "I meant the location of the dragon." She gave a nervous laugh.

Getting up from her seat with new found resolve, she moved ahead to hug her father, pulling her mother in as well. "Thank you!" She whispered.

The hug felt awkward for Morgan, her hand tugging at his neck also made it all the more uncomfortable. "Mae." He choked, patting her back to let go.
