Glimpse of the Past

Jon walked absent minded towards the Wierwood tree. He felt a strange feeling coming from the Wierwood tree and could not remove his eyes from the tree.

Jon kept staring at the tree for few moments and then suddenly felt as if he was sucked inside the tree.

When Jon regained his composure, he felt himself floating in the air. He took no time to recognise that he was in a vision of memory of past.

For years, since his arrival in this world, he had been trying to use his greenseer power as he should have had it in his bloodline as the descendant of the first men. But no natter what he tried he was never able to access any vision or memory of past. Jon had lost all his hopes and sometimes even wondered that if greenseer were really things of legends? And even first men were not greenseers.

After all the entity had granted him to use all the power of his bloodline.

Jon came out from his stupor and looked below.

Below him were standing a silver hair young man and a dark black hair young woman with a bulging stomach.

Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. Jon would have had cried seeing his parents but he could not feel any emotions while greenseeing.

Behind the couple at some distance stood three men dressed in the shiny golden armour of Kingsguard.

Placed next to the three men of the kingsguard were three large wooden chests.

Lyanna was holding a small sapling in her hands with red leaves. A Wierwood sapling.

Rhaegar crouched down and made a small hole in the ground and Lyanna gently placed the sapling inside the hole.

Rhaegar filled the hole with the soil and stood up.

He said, "I have heard that the first men used to offer blood to the Wierwood trees to seek their blessings."

Lyanna nodded, "Yes. But not now. Not many Northers associate themselves with these kinds of things. The influence of south and the Seven is growing rapidly in the North."

Rhaegar smiled and placed his hand on Lyanna's stomach, "Our son would be the greatest man Westeros has ever seen."

He pulled out his knife from the sheath tied to his waist and made a slash at his palm with blood dripping on the Wierwood sapling and muttered, "A Song of ice and fire."

Lyanna was a bit surprised seeing Rhaegar offering his blood to the Wierwood. She took the knife from Rhaegar's hand and made a similar cut on her palms and repeated, "A song of ice and fair."

Her blood trickled down and fell on the Wierwood sapling mixing with Rhaegar's blood.

Rhaegar then turned around towards the 3 kingsguard and nodded his head.

The Kingsguard moved forward and removed their armours and then took a shovel and started digging few feet away from the sapling.

"Why don't you take it with yourself? These can help you turn the war in your favour. You can exchange them for support with many houses.," said Lyanna.

"Maybe they could. Maybe they cannot. I am not sure if I could make out alive of it," said Rhaegar.

She was about to say something but Rhaegar cut her off, "Lyanna, if something happens to me, escape this place. Take good care of my child. He would grow to be a great man."

Tears welled inside Lyanna's eye, "Why don't I write to my brother, Ned?"

Rhaegar shook his head, "I have already sent 5 ravens and 2 horse riders with letters to your brother but I have not received a single reply. The 2 riders were probably killed as they never returned back."

This was the sentence which stumped Jon. Even in his previous life he had his doubts. He believed for once that Brandon Stark in his impulse acted rashly and directly went to King's landing followed by his father.

But why would Rhaegar and Lyanna not inform Ned Stark about the truth of matter when that misunderstanding had caused a war overturning the seven kingdoms. They have had enough time to inform Ned Stark about the real situation.

Not only it would have been a wise move but also may turned the war in Rhaegar's favour or maybe the war would have not happened at all. Rhaegar could have then easily displaced his father from the throne.

After all the North would have never raised their weapon against their beloved Lyanna especially when she was about to give birth to a probable heir to iron throne.

Jon's mind was flushed with various kind of thoughts. Had Ned ignored those letters and still went ahead with war for his friend? Did he wanted revenge against Targaryen blood and particularly Rhaegar and cared for nothing else? Did he not cared for his sister's feeling and was still willing to hand her over to Robert? Though this seemed less likely, Jon could not deny the possibility completely.

Had someone prevented the letters from reaching to Ned Stark? But who had such influence?

Had the letters never reached Ned? With Ravens, it was a possibility for them to not reach the destination. But for 5 ravens to fail was almost impossible. Maybe the three eyed Raven? But then what about the two horse riders Rhaegar had sent?

Meanwhile Lyanna could not say anything and only sobbed harder.

The couple returned back to the tower. Lyanna was in her final stages of pregnancy and therefore she nodded rest. Constant travel had taken quite a toll on her young body.

It took almost half a day for the three Kingsguard to dug a pit deep enough.

Then they picked up the chest one by one and placed it inside the pit. They filled up the pit with the soil burying the chest inside the trench.
