Chapter 30

Inside the flying helicopter was no one else but Sam and his team, they were also provided with everything they would need on the mission and as soon as they got in they started checking their arsenal.

Each one of them had a handgun, although guns got less and less useful as humans evolved, they were still relatively useful against first grade evolvers as long as they weren't wearing an armor, it was more of an emergency item than an indispensable one.

Another emergency item they had was a flare gun, also called a signal pistol it was in case somebody needed to be retrieved urgently, they were told beforehand that all satellites' communications such as their hand phones and talkie-walkies were being jammed which left them with very few communication methods once on the battlefield.

Since it was a cover mission that was supposed to happen sneakily at night, they were also given night vision glasses, they looked pretty inconspicuous but they were so good that they could let you see at night as if it was during the day !

Since the grey and blue in uniform were too obvious in the forest environment they were going to, they had been given classic green and brown camouflage uniforms.

Finally they were given a pure mythril dagger each but nobody took one, they all had invested in better equipment and so the number of daggers in the box stayed the same.

"Is everyone ready? We are dropping in 30 seconds."

Sam felt weird acting like a leader to his seniors but he was designed as boss of this squad and he couldn't shy away from his responsibility, he took his role at heart and began the mission.

"Yes !"

Everyone was obviously used to taking orders and they replied unanimously, as Sam looked at them he could not only see determination and excitement in their eyes but also a hint of fear. That was normal as that bit of fear was a protective mechanism from their brain, it would help keeping them focused and avoid going in the battlefield head first without a plan.

Sam nodded and walked to the helicopter's door, he was wearing his own backpack on his frontal upper body and the parachute on the back. As soon as he jumped he was followed by 4 other silhouettes, the five of them straightened their bodies to maximize their falling speed and consequently minimize their air time, if they were seen in the air they would be shot down by long distance weapons such as snipers and even if they survived the shots they would undoubtedly attract troops to their landing position and ruin the mission.

Although they were jolted extremely hard when they opened the parachute, they still decided to open it at a very low altitude. The parachutes weren't too big but they would still attract way more attention than them falling.

In the end they landed safely in the forest and even though it was extremely dark they could still see perfectly with their glasses, they threw away their parachutes and Sid pulled out a map and a compass.

"We must have landed in this area..."

He pointed with his finger towards a patch of trees on the map, then he looked up and showed the tip of a mountain in the distance.

"That mountain there, it should be this one, so according to the informations we have, the target is probably to the west."

Everyone waited for Sam to make the decision while he kept staring to the map, he also knew that these informations came from the scouting teams sent here before them and they had a rough idea of where the target was but it wasn't precise enough.

"Let's go here."

Sam pointed towards a castle on the map, it was a famous touristic spot on Moryl and although he had never been there he had heard about it a few times.

"This is Lord Dominic's castle right ? We might find some resting enemy soldiers there, if we do we can get informations from them."

Sarah looked at him and asked:

"What is they don't talk?"

She was a soldier too so she knew very well how hard it was to make a soldier spit secrets that could go against his army, she believed that If she was ever caught by the energy she would rather die than betray her comrades.

"I'll make them talk."

Sam said lightly, although he had never killed or tortured anyone, he was well aware that he would have to do these things when joining the army and he was completely ready for it.

'This is a war, not a game. The longer I take in finding the teleport station, the more enemy soldiers will flood Moryl and they might even reach the capital, if they do then Edward's family will be in danger too. To lower the casualties on our side, it is imperative that I take some lives from their side.'

Sid looked at Sam's eyes and thought:

'That's a nice look, I wonder why Ella said he's not fit for the army. Determined guys like him are the most suited for this field of work.'

"Let's go, we must reach Lord Dominic's castle before the sun is up, if it is empty we will wait there until tomorrow night to move again, if we find a loner or a small group we will take them out and leave one alive, if it is a bigger group we will retreat. Is that clear ?"

Sam awkwardly gave his orders which made the girls giggle but they all nodded, they were clear orders and the best they could come with at the moment. It showed that this leader wasn't a hot blooded youth who would fight when the odds were against him but a smart and cool headed soldier who used his brains instead of his muscles to think. It was quite rare in Moryl's army as even Ella had times when she acted before thinking.

Soon the group of five started running while making as little noise as they could, their footsteps' sounds were hidden by the noisy insects which made it easier for them to rush to the castle, it was 20 kilometers away. A fast human could run that distance in around 30 minutes but Sam and his team weren't average humans, even a grade one evolver was far from the average human !

They closed the distance with the castle in 10 minutes while still controlling themselves to stay silent while running, as they saw the castle they all stopped and waited for Sam to decide on which way they would go in.

Wow, 30 chapters already? Thanks for sticking with me guys !
