Annoying man at the crossroads

"Eugh..." Cassie opened her eyes slowly

Recalling the events of last night, Cassie cast her eyes around the room. This was her house, and she was sleeping on the living room sofa.

"I think I had a bad dream last night," Cassie said holding her head which was still hurting.

Cassie's gaze stopped when she saw the box of cookies that she bought last night. "I had forgotten about the cookies"

Cassie got up from her sleep and walked to her room to change.

Look who's sleeping in her room. "Wasn't that a dream last night?" Cassie said softly.

Cassie picked up the baseball bat perched on her umbrella box, sneaked into the room, and raised the bat high.

As the person under the blanket squirmed, Cassie swallowed her saliva.

With quite a distance, Cassie moved the body with her baseball bat.

Feeling no movement from the body, Cassie walked over and tried to get closer. "Who-who are you?" said Cassie still trying to wake up the huge body.

Cassie's legs seemed to tremble as the body under the blanket moved. One second later, the large body got up still with the blanket blocking its body.

Cassie suddenly rounded her eyes, and seconds later, the baseball bat flew into the large body under the blanket.

"Yak... Feel this!" shouted Cassie

Cassie continued to hit the big body under the blanket blindly, "ARGH... WHAT ARE YOU DOING? IT'S ME!" Say it in there.

"It's me, Kevin!" As soon as she heard someone's voice and name being called, Cassie stopped her punches

"Kevin?" said Cassie confirming

"Yes, it's me, your brother! Kevin" Cassie opened her mouth, in disbelief. How could Cassie not recognize her little brother, Kevin rubbed his body and head which was hurting from being hit by the metal baseball bat.

Cassie thrust an ice cube in front of her younger brother, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to" she said sitting on the living room sofa.

Kevin, who was sitting on the floor, glared, "Just tell me if you want to kill me" he snapped.

Ignoring her annoyed brother, Cassie opened the box of cookies she had bought last night and popped a slice into her mouth.

Cassie thrust a piece of cake in front of Kevin, "Yesterday was Mom's birthday, eat at least a little"

Kevin was silent for a few seconds, he hadn't forgotten that day and it was one of the reasons he came home. Kevin opened his mouth and took a bite of the cake his sister gave him.

Cassie's family used to be harmonious, and economically well-off thanks to her father's job. But unfortunately, her parents died in a single accident in 2019.

Cassie had to take care of her younger brother alone since the age of nineteen and became the backbone for her only brother.

"What time did you get home last night?" Cassie asked with her mouth full.

Kevin was silent remembering the memory of last night, "ten o'clock." he said

"If you're tired, just take a day off. Don't go too crazy with work." he continued, looking at Cassie.

Cassie who heard Kevin's words furrowed her forehead and smiled sympathetically "I'm not tired, why would I take a day off? Oo are you worried about your sister" Cassie teased Kevin and pinched her brother cheek anxiously.

Kevin rolled his eyes, "Last night I found you lying on the doorstep," Kevin said making Cassie choke on the cookie she was eating.

"What?!" Cassie stopped what she was doing and turned to face her younger brother fully

"Yeah, I'm sure you don't remember anything. I helped you sleep on the couch," Kevin said.

'Wasn't last night a dream?!' Cassie thought as she recalled the events of last night.

"I-i I'm fine, I was probably drunk last night" Cassie tried to evade, she didn't want to worry her brother

She could see Kevin shaking his head slowly, "you smell like alcohol" he said.

As if bewitched Cassie recalled the incident of how those cold, alcohol-smelling lips touched hers in a few seconds 'This can't be' Cassie's mind tried to dispel her dirty thoughts

Kevin exhaled, "It's good that you passed out drunk,"

"Do you have any money?" Kevin got up from his seat

Cassie's reverie was broken when she heard her sister say, "What for?" Cassie asked.

"I want to take lessons, to apply for a job. It'll pay three times your salary, if you give it to me I'll replace it once I get the job" Kevin explained hopefully.

Cassie nodded in understanding, "how much?" asked Cassie

"About three..." Kevin held up his hand and showed three fingers

"Three? Three what?"

"Three... Thousand... Dollars" Kevin said, making Cassie roll her eyes.

Cassie threw the spoon she was holding, hitting Kevin in the head with a loud clunk "Are you crazy? Where did three thousand dollars come from?" shouted Cassie, shaking her head in disbelief at her brother's words.

"Aw... Well, if it's not there, don't hit me. I won't insist either. It looks like you want to kill me." Kevin shouted as he walked out of the house.

"Kevin! Where are you going?" shouted Cassie trying to stop her brother from leaving.

"None of your business," he replied at the doorway.

Cassie took a breath, "That kid, how easy it is for him to ask his sick sister's for three thousand dollars."

Thinking about work, Cassie was likely to be late today. "Oh my! It's already past seven, I'm going to be late" Cassie ran to the bathroom and quickly did her morning ritual which seemed to be short today.

The morning streets were very crowded, and the bus that Cassie used to take was full. Taxis were just passing by without stopping because they were already occupied, even the sidewalks and other vehicles were filled with a sea of people.

"Excuse me" Cassie broke through the swarm of people on the sidewalk of the street

Cassie frowned occasionally as her body swayed in the sea of people,

"Hello Liliana, please let me-"

"Cassie where are you?" interrupted Liliana before Cassie could finish her sentence.

"I'm stuck in the city streets, everything is packed with people. I'm probably going to be late today" Cassie explained as she walked through anyone who dared to get in her way.

"Oh dear, hurry up, the CEO has arrived at the office," Liliana said from the other side.

"CEO? Who?" asked Cassie, raising her eyebrows at Liliana's words.

She heard Liliana chuckle, "ck you didn't open the group message?"

Cassie immediately opened the group message which turned out to be more than 99+ messages on her cell phone, Cassie opened her mouth in surprise to see the group chat that had appeared from last night.

"I'll come right away, call me when the CEO arrives," Cassie said and seconds later she was running, this time breaking through people no matter what they grumbled and cursed at her. Her current goal was only one, how to arrive at the office within twenty minutes.

"Oh my! Did I bring that contract letter?" he monologued.

Feet that were focused on running, eyes that were focused on finding a piece of paper, and hands that were busy rummaging through the contents of her bag. Cassie was already completely unfocused on her path.

Tinn...

Bruk...

"Aw..." Cassie rubbed her arm that was in contact with the asphalt.

A black sports car stopped in front of her, the traffic light was showing red which meant that the vehicle had to stop at the crosswalk barrier. But lo and behold, this car tried to pass through, and almost hit Cassie's body.

"Are you blind?!" shouted Cassie in front of the black car.

"Get off! Or I'll report to the police station" she shouted, again.

The man in the gray suit and black shirt got out of the car, "Are you hurt?" he asked.

Cassie looked at the man's appearance from top to bottom, his two-toned hair painted brown on the right and gray on the left and his shiny clothes were very elegant. This man must be rich.

"Don't you see the road? It's a red light, what if there's an accident? Are you going to be responsible?!" Cassie grumbled.

The passers-by stopped their steps and watched Cassie who was raging in the middle of the street at an unknown man.

"Hey... Answer! Are you mute?" sarcastically Cassie, when she didn't get an answer from the man in front of her.

"Are you hurt?" she asked again,

'Is this guy a robot? Why is he just repeating the same sentence?' Cassie's mind looked strangely at the man in front of her.

"Yes, I'm hurt. Are you going to take responsibility?"

As the man looked Cassie up and down, Cassie spontaneously covered her body parts feeling strange about the gaze of the man in front of her.

"What are you looking at?" bluffed Cassie taking a step back.

"Looks like you're not hurt." finishing his sentence, the man got into the car and started the engine again.

"Hey... Don't run away!" shouted Cassie pointing at the black car that was now driving away.

Tin... Tin...

The sound of horns broke Cassie's frustration, cars were already lined up behind her. Feeling like her way was being blocked by an angry girl in the middle of the road.

"Sorry," Cassie walked over as she bowed to the other drivers, feeling guilty for causing such a mess.

Cassie pushed open the door to her office with a ragged breath "Sorry..." Cassie ran a little when she saw her other coworkers already lined up.

Liliana, who saw Cassie had arrived, hurriedly interrupted the girl to join the line.

"Is the CEO here yet?" asked Cassie in a whisper while correcting her slightly disheveled appearance.

"Yes, he just arrived. Where have you been?" asked Liliana, curious as to what had happened to Cassie that made her late for the office.

"I had a nightmare last night, the streets were crowded with people and there was one annoying person who blocked my way" Cassie explained through her teeth as she recalled the events on the streets.

"Shutt..." The director put his index finger on his lips, interrupting her to keep quiet.

"How come that crazy director came?"

"Because not only did the CEO come today, but he came with his son. Who is said to be very handsome and tall, and is often compared to K-Pop idols" explained Liliana, who had heard a little information before arriving at the office this morning. Cassie rounded her mouth and gave a small nod.

The sound of shoes clattering on the floor was loud, everyone took a breath as a man of about 57 years old passed by each row of employees, accompanied by several people in black suits behind him.

"I didn't come here by myself today, because I want my youngest son to know the business and continue running the company. Also, next week my son will become the deputy CEO and will oversee the company in my place. Lucca, come here." Anthony, the CEO of Start Write, explained.

A young man walked in from the door, instantly all eyes were drawn to that handsome man.

Cassie wasn't as focused as everyone else, she was still thinking about the contract letter she had to give to the director today.

"Cassie look, he is as handsome as people talk about." Liliana nudged Cassie's arm as the young man greeted one by one the employees who were lined up.

Seconds later, Cassie rounded her eyes perfectly 'He... Isn't he the guy at the red light?!'
