What Must Be Done?

"I can't do it..." Alicia began to tremble due to nervousness and the flood of emotions overwhelming her. Matt had turned into a walker, and the stiff movements of his body along with the sounds coming from his mouth made Dominic unable to doubt what his eyes were seeing.

Those infected by the Wildfire virus were slow, dumb, and very easy to eliminate. Truth be told, Dominic couldn't believe how these walkers managed to take down one of the world's most powerful armies.

But at that moment, Matt's eyes, which had been white, changed slightly to red. His mouth started to release saliva mixed with blood, and his growls became more ferocious.

"Shoot now, Alicia!"

Bang!

Alicia pulled the trigger, but the shot didn't hit Matt's head; instead, it went wide.

What the hell is happening with this walker?!

Dominic's mind raced; he took a step forward and aimed his rifle before firing. The shot was quick; he couldn't aim for the head because the walker's movements were much faster than others.

Bang!

The powerful shot left Dominic a bit stunned, so he quickly resorted to hand-to-hand combat. But thanks to that shot that hit Matt's leg, Dominic had the advantage.

Arghhhh!!!

Dominic took a step forward and, with his left hand, pushed Matt, who was trying to bite him by any means necessary. Having the upper hand in close combat, his knife plunged into Matt's neck.

Crack!

There was no doubt in Dominic's movements; his clothing covered each of his limbs, preventing him from being bitten or scratched.

"Alicia, you have to shoot." Dominic kicked Matt away, and he fell behind several pieces of furniture.

Alicia was trembling. She raised the gun and aimed at Matt, who was struggling to get up. The knife buried in his throat had seriously damaged his torso, so it was just a matter of one blow to end his life.

Dominic picked up his rifle from the floor, reloaded the gun, and, wanting Alicia to take responsibility, asked, "Should I do it?"

"I'll handle it." Alicia pulled the trigger of the pistol.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The shots echoed in the room; the bullets hit several pieces of furniture, but a few hit Matt's body.

"Let him get closer, aim, and take a deep breath." Dominic knew Alicia was a very strong girl, so he wouldn't underestimate her decisions.

Alicia closed her eyes; her saddened gaze changed to one filled with determination, and when she opened her eyes again, she whispered, "I'm sorry, Matt, just rest."

Bang!

This time, the shot was much closer, hitting Matt's head with force. After receiving the shot, Matt fell backward onto a large white rug.

Dominic looked at Alicia, took the gun from her, and let her process the pain she had been carrying throughout this whole situation.

"Is it done?"

"He's resting now..." Dominic walked over to where Matt was and pulled the tablecloth from the table to cover his disfigured face.

The black blood was a clear indication that Matt had been dead for a long time, but now nothing else mattered. "You're lucky; a family awaits you that will surely show you a new meaning in life."

"It feels horrible..."

Dominic didn't say anything about it; he was going through the same thing, so he knew exactly what it felt like.

"If you have no one else to talk to, you can talk to me." Alicia murmured these words as she sat down next to Dominic, who was resting.

Both closed their eyes and unknowingly fell asleep.

...

When they returned, it was dawn, and the sound of the vehicle's engine caught the attention of the people inside the house.

Madison was the first to come out; she seemed to just realize that her son was missing, and when she was about to go look for him, Nick told her the whole truth.

"Alicia, where were you?"

When Dominic got out of the vehicle, he looked at Alicia, who had returned to normal but was still shattered inside.

"Don't ever come near my daughter again!" Madison pushed Dominic, who did nothing to defend himself.

"She's okay." Dominic didn't expect this reaction from Alicia's mother, but given how she had exposed herself, it was normal.

"Maddy, calm down." Travis moved his girlfriend to prevent her from making a mistake.

Alicia came out and said, "It was my own decision."

"You have no say in this." Madison pushed her daughter aside.

"It won't happen again." Dominic simply apologized.
