Defending the Base

Bang! Bang! Bang!

"Zz... Fire, everyone kill those undead."

"My God, this is my fault." Sergeant Castro couldn't believe Mayor's had done something like this; if only he had killed him, they wouldn't have to go through this.

"Zz... Sergeant Castro, do you hear me?" Dominic's voice came through the radio.

"Zz... Regret this later; I need you, and your family is waiting for you too." Dominic had walked out through the main door, followed by a dozen soldiers.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

"Everyone bring the materials inside; don't be afraid."

"I'm sorry, sir..." Castro now looked at Dominic as an undisputed figure of authority in his eyes.

"It doesn't matter now; is he at least dead?" Dominic approached the iron fence where the walkers were gathering.

"He was bitten; he'll be dead soon."

"I truly..."

Dominic didn't give him time to apologize and said, "Don't panic, don't shoot, and have all the soldiers come down from the watchtowers. Seal the outer entrances after bringing in all the military equipment that will be transported by cargo helicopters little by little, so we only need to secure the building."

"Understood."

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Fear had gripped the soldiers, but as soon as a voice came through their intercoms, they all stopped shooting instantly.

Dominic, who was in front of the walkers, immediately said, "Zz... Come down from the watchtowers, don't shoot again, and retreat inside the building with all the supplies left outside."

"Zz... If you want to live, obey. Reinforcements are on the way, and they will blow up this whole place."

Castro, who looked at Dominic sure of his words, immediately began giving orders, and all soldiers ran out of the metal fences, stopping their gunfire.

At the same time, trucks began to position themselves at the edge of the metal fences to prevent them from collapsing easily, and after that, everyone ran inside the building.

"The remaining helicopters must fly to the designated location; there's a safe provisional base there, and we'll start moving from that point." Dominic told a group of soldiers, who nodded, knowing where they had to go.

As for the man to Dominic's right, he looked at him seriously and asked, "What do you want me to do?"

"Diaz told me you're the best pilot, straight from the special forces. If your passion is doing crazy things, do you want to risk it in my plan to lure all the walkers away?" Dominic ignored the chaos around him.

Rafael, a veteran, looked at Dominic, of whom he had heard a lot, and nodded. "If it's safe, I'll do it."

"Flying at low altitude, the walkers must follow us to a designated point, and at that moment, bomber helicopters will arrive from the sky to hunt down all these walkers." Dominic said, watching as the metal fences collapsed.

One way to secure most of the supplies without being affected is by eliminating the walkers, but it's also very risky on his part to implement this idea that came to his mind.

"I can do it." Rafael had no family, but he had heard that many of his friends had spoken to their families thanks to the person in front of him. He didn't really care about his age, as long as his plans were feasible.

Throughout his life, he had been risking his life for this country, and he was very disappointed at how little the higher-ups cared about all the citizens. If the future's direction is uncertain now, at least he'll do what his heart believes is right.

"Zz... Attention everyone! Both interior and exterior lights will be turned off in one minute. Be prepared and careful for any kind of infiltration by an infected."

Dominic got into the back of the helicopter, and in a few minutes, it started flying close to the entrance where the walkers were concentrating.

"Zz... I understand your plan, but do you plan to bomb the sides of the city?"

Dominic, who had headphones, understood Rafael's concerns and said, "I'm not going to risk an entire community being invaded by all these walkers; as long as there are fewer numbers, it will be more than enough for us not to worry about the ones we can save."

In a few minutes of flying, the lights of the outer base were turned off; only the lights emitted by the helicopter and the flashlight Dominic aimed outside remained on.

The night was falling, so the walkers could see the helicopter perfectly above their heads. They all approached in masses towards the helicopter as if they wanted to reach it with their hands.

Rafael, who was piloting, began to move very slightly, attracting the attention of thousands of walkers who moved towards his distraction.

In the distance, Daniel, who had climbed onto the roof, watched as the helicopter flew away at very low altitude. "Is Dominic in that helicopter?"

"He mentioned that reinforcements are on the way and that they would take care of starting the evacuation of this base." Cole, who was Daniel's trusted informant, informed him about the current situation.

Daniel nodded, understanding that this was necessary, but he was still surprised by the method Dominic had come up with to lure all those walkers away. This alone was advanced combat tactics—something that even the army hadn't thought of to control the giant hordes of walkers.

"Zz... Most of the walkers have moved away; the plan is working."

When this was announced, all the soldiers who were extremely scared breathed a sigh of relief and started moving without rest to begin the evacuation.

...

"Zz... We're five minutes from your current location, sir; shall we bomb the city's sides?"

"Zz... affirmative, after this, we will start immediate evacuations to the provisional base." Dominic knew this would attract the attention of nearby walkers, so once this was resolved, they would have to leave immediately.

Stuart, who led a squadron of seven helicopters, nodded quickly, ordering that five of the cargo helicopters go directly to the provisional base to start taking away everything that would be useful.

"Once we arrive, we'll give the helicopter twenty seconds to move away, and at that moment, attack with everything you have on this helicopter. Do you all understand?" Stuart asked, wanting to know that everyone was informed.

"We understand."

"Then, may God save us."
