Ava," he said, gesturing towards the chef, "this is Marco, a long-time friend of mine. Marco, this is Ava, my…" He hesitated for a beat, then a playful glint entered his eyes, "…girlfriend."
My breath hitched. Girlfriend? The word hung in the air, heavy with unexpectedness. My cheeks burned as Marco's gaze landed on me. I didn't even know whether to be worried that he had introduced me as Ava to someone else yet again, all my attention on the fact that he had just called me his girlfriend. "Ah," he said, his voice warm and inviting. "Ava, it's a pleasure to finally meet you. Alexander has told me so much about you."
"Just good things, I hope," I replied, offering him a shy smile, the weight of Alexander's words still settling on me.
"Only the best," Marco chuckled, his eyes twinkling. "He's a lucky man."
A blush crept up my neck, both at the compliment and at the way Alexander was looking at me.
