Forsaken souls: nightmare of the dead

“Are you afraid of the dark?” There was a party going on tonight; everyone was excited for the thrill and dangers the host promised us. We were meant to be present and show ourselves with our most attractive attires. Everyone received a letter accompanied by an invitation. It was the perfect excuse to chill and take a rest from all our jobs. It was a custom party. We were asked to choose whatever costume we wanted and wear it for the occasion. “What are you thinking about?” I turned my head to eye a man who studied with me when I was in high school. It felt weird meeting all my classmates. It was surprising for all of us. The invitation had us all coming here in addition to strangers I had never seen; all twenty-two students of the 3-E class. I felt horrible and a sense of foreboding engulfed me; I felt like I shouldn’t have come. “I thought how we came all to the same party; it must have been someone we knew, don’t you think so, Emmanuel?” Emmanuel offered me a glass of wine that he carefully filled. I remembered how my mother warned me to never accept offerings from strangers, that I should keep away from any frightful circumstances. Nevertheless, I accepted his kindness and gulped the content in one go. I felt nervous; I was the only one without a fancy dress or flashy jewellery. I needed to chill. “I heard that the host made this party specifically for you, you must rejoice.” I waited for the host to show up and announce the events of the night, the games he prepared carefully and the excuse to be away from this place. I hated being here. It was comfortless and dreary. As I waited, my vision started turning blurry and darkness engulfed my vision slowly. I wanted to ask Emmanuel what was happening and to catch me before I fall. My surroundings went awry and I fell. The next moment I opened my eyes, my body experienced the pain of a fall and I was in a gloomy warehouse where even the sun couldn’t penetrate its huge walls. [Welcome to the party everyone! This is a party specifically made for the dead. Only by being dead you win.] And a burst of horrendous evil laughter resounded in my ears like the scream of a ghost.

An old haunted school

"This is strange! Where is everybody? How come there is only me in this classroom? Where is Elianna?"

Emmanuel was sitting in a similar classroom as Elianna but he didn't see her. It was the same classroom, the same poster hanging on the wall with the butterfly color meanings. The chair was pretty uncomfortable and sleeping on his desk made his neck sore. He got up and moved around. He noticed a typhoon outside but the windows weren't shut with planks or anything; they were broken. The glass shards lied on the ground threatening to hurt anyone who didn't notice their presence.

On another seat, there was a note in a small paper seemingly torn from a notebook and passed around to share a message. He picked it up, still thinking of where Elianna was. He also had the memories and was shocked to see himself in a completely different environment with only him as the guest.

{Why do you think the teacher did it? I thought she was such a nice soul. Who thought she would do such a horrible deed?}

He tossed it away and resumed his examining of the place. It was awfully quiet, without a soul. The creature said the game began and Elianna had a phone that warned her about dangers. In the end, he turned to the poster on the wall with the butterfly colors. He couldn't realize at the same time he was staring at it, Elianna stared at it as well.

He got out of the classroom only to find an empty corridor. It reminded him of a time when the school was announced as closed for a couple of days because of the death of four high schooler. A shiver ran down his spine as the memories flooded in his mind, horrible and depressing. As he walked the corridors, he stopped in front of a window that had a grizzle bear totem. It sat there waiting for anyone to pick it . There was a note underneath it; an old picture with a note. He remembered the face; it was nothing in it that wouldn't make him forget it. He was a bad man.

{The future is there for the ones who seek it. You cannot expect your goal to materialize and become true if you don't use sacrifices. Everything and everyone is a sacrifice.}

He couldn't help but agree. Some people needed to disappear from this life because they did things in the wrong way. It was bad as it was. He picked the totem and turned it around. There was something ominous about it. There was a gray butterfly. He didn't focus much on the poster and now he regretted it. As he turned back to return to the classroom, someone jumped from a corner and attempted to scare him. It was the girl who was played by a prank.

Emmanuel noticed her school uniform and turned his gaze to his clothes only to find out his own changed as well.

"It's impossible! I waited for a while till you were focused and jumped to scare you, how come you aren't scared at all?" she crossed her arms pouting.

"Who are you?" the girl's mouth gapped open like a fish.

"You don't remember me. We were in the same classroom," she raised an eyebrow. She stood in front of him refusing to move.

"Move away," he commanded with a stern tone. "If you don't I will make sure you lose an eye."

"You are joking, right?"

He glared. "I need to find someone."

"Is she the girl you moved to greet at the party? By the way, do you have any idea where we are? I don't remember much. I am confident I was in a party and you were the grim reaper," she chuckled.

"And if you don't distance yourself a few metres, I will make sure you lose your soul."

"Why are you this rude? You were always this way."

Emmanuel ignored her futile attempt to attract his attention and stopped in front of the poster once again. This time, there was a sentence added using blood stating to keep any totem anyone found. From the handwriting, he was confident it was Elianna. She was always someone interested in horror stories. The current situation was a favourable game for her.

Elianna looked at her phone once again to make sure she carefully wrote what the phone stated. She knew everyone was in the same place they were there and at the same time weren't there. The only way to communicate with others was by the mean of blood. She bit her finger till it bled and wrote what she found. It wasn't for anyone's sake; it was for only one person to see.

{In any situation you fell into, know that you are in the same place but you cannot see each other. The first game was always an old school commemorating the souls of the deceased. You will have to survive for three days, without sleep, without food, without anything… Constant fear and stupid hopes… In my case, many thought it was a prank but I knew because I saw it and I remembered. I remembered the Hydro Grim and its evil grin. I couldn't forget them… I couldn't…}

{Keep in mind that there are many ways to communicate with others but I only know one. I only know the blood path. Use your blood to leave messages or kill someone and display the body with words on the flesh. I swear… I just wanted to survive.}

Emmanuel smiled at the words and turned to the girl who was with him. Not everything was written but he knew Elianna wanted him to see that. She wrote: "Keep the totem to whoever reads this. They are typical clues to keep the path clear and the clues shown."

"Are you interested in dying, girl? I need to leave a message for someone."

"What are you talking about? You are scaring me here."

"Everything works with sacrifice. Don't you think so? Don't you find it great when your life is used for the great goal?"
