Chapter 32

For whatever reason, my flesh was reacting like it was mortal.

When I lifted my head, I saw in the reflection of Leandro’s eyes that he’d already figured that out. I’d warned him about the shirt, after all. And then my body had been the one to offer the proof of it.

He reached again over my head and removed some gauze pads and tape from the cabinet. Maintaining that same tender touch, he covered the affected skin, protecting it from any more harm. When he was done, he bent and pressed a kiss to the back of my neck, above the edge of the bandage.

“I’m going to put some coffee on,” he said. “I think we’re both going to need it.”

I nodded and let him go. I had yet to release my death grip on the sink. Part of me was afraid that if I did, I’d fall. It just might be the only thing holding me together right now.

That, and Leandro.
