Just like that, another week had gone by, and the whole kingdom was in an uproar.
No other kingdom dared to visit theirs for they feared they would be associated with their kingdom, should King Ajax unleash his anger.
But then it was also rumored that her father had sent one of the maids in disguise as one of his daughters.
If the rumor was true, it could buy them some time until he realized, right?
But a week was just a little too short to know if King Ajax caught on to the deception.
"Princess Camilla, you need to hurry up to the hall! The ice king has sent a new messenger. Go and listen and come and give us the news.
Considering we were all excused, I'm guessing it is something big," one maid from the king's chamber rushed into the kitchen to inform her of what had happened.
Everyone present looked at her with eager eyes.
Well, a good gossip wouldn't go unheard, would it?
She dashed to the grand hall as if she were being chased, and just like the first time, the scent of blood filled the room. And on the floor was a sack with blood dripping through it.
Her father was gripping the letter too tightly as his fingers shook evidently.
What had her father done? Was the rumor true?
She walked further towards them, and while they all seemed busily pondering what the letter was about, she sneaked behind her father and stole a glance at the letter,
'Thanks for the meal, but since it didn't taste like royal blood, I'd suggest the next one better be one of your princesses. I shall not take such deception lightly the next time you try to fool me again.
And I shall punish you for this deception. You shall send off your daughter but leave her on the badlands alone.
If the next day she is still alive, then I'd believe her blood is good enough for me.'
Badlands?
As in the Death Valley?
It was a place where his pets got released to feast around at night.
Even though nothing was seen during the day, it was also rumored that the pets were from the underworld and saw what humans could not see.
Camilla sucked in her breath as she saw the king's advisor pass her a deadly look.
At that moment, she didn't know which one was scarier- the letter in their hands or the look he gave her.
She quickly moved from where she stood, and while Camilla walked, she heard the advisor whispering to her father to move into his chambers to continue their talk.
Her father then excused himself into his private chambers as the chief advisor, and one of his subordinates followed suit.
Camilla started having a bad feeling. Her chest began to pound aggressively, and she touched the feather necklace around her neck.
She sneaked into her father's chambers as they entered as well. She needed to hear their discussion.
There, her father removed his crown and sighed while he paced about.
"All your daughters are set to marry except the last born. She is also of age. We can negotiate a marriage between herself and the immortal king.
She is a princess, and he ought not to treat her without dignity," the subordinate let out while her father rubbed his bald head.
Camilla's hand fled to her mouth to cover the sound that threatened to break from her lips.
Her spine straightened like a pencil, as she gripped the curtains. She felt her heart wanting to jump through her throat.
Was he referring to her?
"After all, King Ajax wouldn't know which of your daughters is your favorite." The man added, and her father looked at him, lost and hopeless.
Between George and King Ajax, which one was better?
AJ
