"I should be asking you that question. What were you and Mister Jake talking about"?
Fiona asked and Kay looked at her unable to come up with a lie.
"Huh"?
"Don't play dumb dummy, I saw you seriously talking to Mr. Jake".
Kay was in a dilemma but not for long as he quickly thought of what to tell her.
"Oh, that... that was nothing serious. I just had some questions to ask him concerning the math topic we are currently treating".
Fiona looked at him in disbelief.
"You? You had questions"?
She asked not buying the story at all. She knows her friend and she knows how smart he is. He never needs help from anyone.
"I don't know everything you know".
He said and began walking away. Fiona looked at Kay with a smile on her face and said.
"Of course, you don't know everything".
After saying this, she rushed to meet him.
"Let's eat something spicy for lunch".
She said as soon as she caught up with him.
"I don't want to, eat on your own".
Jason also left the house pretty early as he needed to look into a few things before traveling all the way to Japan for a business deal.
He had so much to do and time didn't look like it was on his side.
I waited for Jason to come back but it was so late and he wasn't back yet. The house felt really boring today because Kanada had also left.
Derrick said it was best for them to start soon. He didn't want to waste any time so I was basically home alone.
Kay didn't come home early either. It was already time to go to bed I felt like my day was futile.
I was wishing I also had something to do but Grandpa said I'd have to wait for a response from lawyer Patrick before doing anything. I guess there were a few more things to settle.
I decided to retire to bed when I got a call. It was an unknown number and they were calling pretty late but because I was expecting lawyer Patrick's call, I didn't think about it too much.
"Hello"?
I picked almost immediately.
"Nadia? Is that you"?
As soon as I heard the voice of the person on the other side of the phone, my expectations dropped to zero.
"What do you want"?
I heard her sigh before speaking again.
"You haven't spoken to me since the last incident. Don't tell me you are still mad at me. You know how your dad can be".
I chuckled at her ridiculous statement. I was definitely raised by arrogant and foolish people.
"Who is my dad? I don't have parents".
I said.
"Nadia!!"
She yelled and I couldn't help but smile.
"How can you say that? You can't just discard us now that you are doing well".
I was silent for a while before finally speaking.
"You know... thinking about it now... you were even worse than dad was. At least he bluntly showed that he did not like me. But you... you were a snake till the very end".
"This is no way to talk to your mother Nadia".
"Mother my foot".
I said and ended the call. I always felt a mother should do everything they can to protect their children but it was never like that for me.
Whenever my so-called father was owing people or whenever he got into trouble, I was always pushed to pay the price.
I didn't want to think about the things I had to go through but I couldn't control it.

"Nadia, your dad can't come home today but he'll send some people to pick you up".
As soon as my thirteen-year-old self heard that, I began to tremble. I was wondering what it was that I'd have to do this time around.
Last time, I had to sell illegal substances for a whole month to pay off my dad's debt. I was caught by the police, I escaped, and I was beaten to the plump whenever I lost any substance. Sometimes, they'd have me sleep outside in the rain as punishment.
The time before that, I had to sneak into a gambling house to take pictures of a powerful man that some mafia men my dad offended wanted to take down.
I was hospitalized for a whole month because of that incident and the funny thing is... I wasn't caught. Instead, I was beaten by the guys my dad offended.
These were just little things I went through and when going through all of these, my mom will always tell me that this was the best I could do for the family.
Hearing that some people were going to come and take me, I was already so scared I wanted to pass out. I silently went to my room and using the window, I ran away. I ran faster than my tiny legs could take me but I was caught anyways.
That was the first time my mother ever hit me. After slapping me hard on the face, she apologized and because I felt she was the only one by my side, I forgave her.
I went with the men and that was when I realized that they wanted to rent me to a club for a week.
I could not do it. I did not have the capacity to do it. I was just eleven years old, I was not supposed to be going through this.
They were discussing it openly in the car and because they felt I was a child, they left me alone in the backseat.
I silently moved to the edge of the car, opened the door, and jumped out of a moving car. I was seriously injured but I didn't care about that as I had to get out of the main road. I immediately stood up and began running for my life.
I looked helpless. I was not even wearing shoes.
