Duke Lixin continued pulling on Mei Deng's hand, up until they arrived at a glistening lake, occupied by the servants conducting night chores. At the mere sight of the duke, everyone vacated the area with their heads bowed.
Mei Deng sighed, "it's true, they really do run away from you." He observed, standing beside the lake, allowing the water to tickle his toes.
The Duke walked up to him, "heaven knows why, I'm about as harmless as they come. You're the only one who isn't afraid of me." He said, looking directly at Mei Deng's side profile.
The doctor furrowed his brows, "should I be afraid of you?"
"That's not a question I think I can answer, just do whatever you deem fit. It seems as though Uncle has taken quite the liking to you." He replied, earning a nervous chuckle out of his companion.
It seemed as though the just recent events still scarred Mei Deng. He lowered into a squat and dipped his palm into the cold water.
