Lily sighed and sunk her shoulders so that he could see. She looked at him with such a sorrowful expression in hopes that it would affect the sympathetic part of his heart that might not even exist.
She knew how sharp his temperament could be, so she gave it a try.
"I'm scared because no one is home…"
Ethan narrowed his eyes. Feeling that she'd gotten halfway, Lily felt a surge of hope. Hiding the eagerness deep inside her heart, she did her best to utilize the little acting skills she had.
"My parents went to their vacation house again… and John went running off to Rong Ming-sis… Geez, I'm always alone. What if a robber breaks into our home? I'm scared of ghosts and people…"
"Lily."
"Yeah?"
Ethan carefully examined Lily's face and lightly tapped her mouth with his fingertips.
"I can see your smile."
She was about to sniffle and wipe her eyes, but Lily quickly hid her mouth behind her hands and glared back at him.
