CHAPTER 16 – Your Majesty
"Greetings, your majesty," Xander greeted.
However, Xavier kept his stern gaze on him and remained quiet all the way.
Sensing hesitation, Zeno followed suit immediately and bowed his head low. "Your majesty."
A few seconds later, the other dragons who had been behind flew up to where they were and bowed their heads to him.
His eyes glanced around them as they took their bows before him and remained in that state waiting for his approval before they rose.
As much as he knew this, Xavier made no effort to tell them to rise as he peeled his gaze from them and turned his upper body a bit to the side.
Instantly, his eyes landed on one of the tall buildings to his left while his eyes narrowed slightly as he tried to peer into a certain room through the window.
'Hmm, I wonder, if she would be able to see their faces from that angle?' Xavier contemplated in his mind.
He was sure she would be by the window now and although all hope of this being true was taken care of, his worries remained.
**Flashback**
A gentle knock came on the door as he waited for an invitation before opening it.
However, some seconds went by and he got nothing. Left with no choice, he placed his hand on the door and immediately a white light moved from his fingertips to the door, enshrouding it.
CREAK.
The next second the door pushed open with a small sound, ushering Xavier in.
Once in, Xavier lifted his gaze slowly from the floor and his eyes landed on the stubborn being seated cross-leg on the bed with her arms folded underneath her chest.
His cold gaze held her defiance for a long time before letting out an exasperated sigh and he arched his eyebrow at her.
"A common enter or come in would have sufficed rather than pouting yourself in anger," Xavier's scolding voice rang out.
'Since you are a king, common shouldn't be used on you and forgive me that I do not feel strengthened enough to speak the heavy words you deem as uncommon.' Raven spat out bitterly in her mind.
Regardless, she kept a straight face and paid him no heed.
The last thing she wanted was to be in banter with the annoying king.
She averted her gaze without a second thought, fixing it on the wall at her right instead, completely ignoring him.
"Keeping me silent would not get you out of my grasp, you know that, right?" Xavier's cold voice reminded her in a questioning manner.
Instead of retorting, she remained silent.
For Raven, she was going to ignore him as though he never existed until she got a good opportunity to attack him and escape.
Xavier on the other hand wasn't in the mood for games nor did he have that time to waste on her. He needed to welcome his people.
Turning his gaze away from her, he breathed out again as he directed his attention to the door.
"Come in," he ordered calmly.
Raven's brows creased as she squinted, moving her gaze in his direction.
From the corners of his eyes, he noticed her attention was pulled as well to the door as she too waited to see who was entering.
A smirk formed on his lips as he waited for the young fox to make an appearance.
Just then the head of the white fox popped out from behind the door before she came out as well.
The first person her eyes landed on was Xavier whose intense gaze gave her shivers, forcing her to lower her head in fear.
At the same time, Xavier heard a sharp call from behind him and his lips tugged upwards in a triumphant smile.
"Layla?!" Raven called out in shock.
Hearing the familiar voice of her owner, Layla lifted her head and diverted her gaze in the direction of the person who called her.
Her eyes held recognition as she no longer hid and took another step out, but not before drifting her gaze over to Xavier, as though waiting for some kind of permission.
However, before Xavier could make the call, Raven rose from her sitting position and jumped off the bed, rushing over to the door.
She did not bother if her actions were crazy and not ladylike which would have earned her an ample amount of scolding had her father been there.
To her, at this point, it did not matter.
She was happy that she had a familiar face and more importantly, she felt relieved that she was okay.
Because of the fright of having Xavier released, she rushed to warn the realm before more havoc could happen and failed to search Layla out.
That had been her biggest regret and worry ever since she woke up. Sadly, he kept her hostage and she could not leave in search of her pet fox.
Pushing Xavier aside, Raven knelt down on her knees and hugged Layla tight as she snuggled her face in the crook of her neck.
"Layla, oh my goodness. I missed you. I am so sorry. So sorry for leaving you behind. Forgive me," Raven apologized, ignoring Xavier who did all the good work in saving her.
At first, when she pushed him with her hand by mistake, his eyes went wide at her action but seeing how relieved she was and the sadness that instantly washed over her, he could not do anything to scold her.
To him, Raven looked like a child whose favourite pet doll had just been found. Technically, she was a child to him if their age was put into consideration.
However, that did not mean he would let her off the hook for ignoring him.
"So now you know how to speak, huh?" Xavier questioned a bit sarcastically.
Her eyes held a faint smile as she quickly did the needful without looking at him. "I'm sorry, thanks," Raven let out in a low tone.
Sensing her hesitation, Xavier furrowed his brows and narrowed his gaze at her. "Pardon, I can't hear you."
"Sorry," she apologized in yet another low tone, directly pissing him off intentionally.
"Umm, I just awakened from a big rubble, my ears aren't that open. You would have to speak louder," Xavier urged, revealing the mischievous grin plastered on his face.
However, while he took the liberty of taunting her, she did not have the strength to indulge him.
"Not my fault that you chose to break out the rough way," Raven retorted while rolling her eyes.
She was about to turn away to focus on Layla when she felt a change in the aura seep into the room.
His anger flowed out quickly for her or even a blind and deaf person to notice.
'I thought he couldn't hear clearly. How come he heard my words and is fuming?' Raven thought internally.
Without checking, she could tell he was pissed off and quickly, tried to fix things just so she could have her personal time with Layla.
Swallowing her pride, Raven rose to her feet with her head held high a little bit but kept her gaze away from him.
"I am sorry for the way I acted. Forgive me."
"And…?" Xavier continued for her, leaving her to complete her sentence.
"Thank you."
"For?"
She blew out a puff of air and rolled her eyes as her shoulders slouched a bit. "For saving Layla."
His scrutinizing gaze washed over her before bringing them to her face as he stated proudly, "Not so much but that is a start."
She twisted her lips but swallowed every word and thought. It was better not to piss him off when she was not in the mood. Who knew what else he was going to do?
"Anyways, for her, I hope you would eat and take care of her. She has been good. Now, be good."
Xavier did not spare her another glance as he turned on his heels before informing her, "I have guests as I said before. So, I wouldn't be accompanying you today."
With that, he stepped out but before he was completely gone, he heard Raven whisper something.
"They are coming… I see."
**Flashback Ends**
'Hmm, I am sure she cannot see this far to know exactly who they are.' Xavier concluded in his mind the second he saw Raven's figure by the window.
Letting out a deep sigh he averted his gaze from the window and brought it over to them.
"Rise."
Heeding his order, they straightened their backs and waited for him. However, his eyes held no glint of humour as he centered his attention on Xander, their leader.
"You have his look, but you are not him. Your aura has a sense of familiarity. Who are you?"
