Nuriel held her closer in his arms. Rage boiled through him.
The fact that she had used her powers meant that she had been in distress. And he hadn't been there to tear apart the fool that had dared to harm her.
He crossed the portal Elva had made and he was suddenly back at the Triecan. The house in which he and the council dwelt.
" Your Grace... " Elva uttered but he barely heard her.
"Keep the portal open. Victor and Bastian are coming! " he said as he hurried off.
He'd left them with instructions to make sure everyone who worked in that cursed place died!
He did not in the slightest care whether they had harmed her or not. In one way or another they had played a part in his Doseths suffering. And he would not let such a crime go unpunished. She was all that mattered now. She was his to protect. His to care for. His to love.
Because that is what he felt from the second he saw her lying on that ashen floor.
Love. A feeling so strong it overcame him. Making all his instincts spike up with one primary goal. To ensure her safety.
He climbed up the stairs that led out of Elvas work space. Then he ran through the corridor till he came to the opening after the entryway. The other nine angels of the council were all there. Anxious looks on their faces.
Once they saw him they all rushed forward.
" Sire! "
"What happened? "
"Is she well? "
They're concern was clear but Nuriel didn't have time to answer their questions. "Get the healer!... Now! " He roared as he outstretched his white wings and flew past the spiral staircase, landing on the fourth level of the house before proceeding to run to his chambers.
He had only been that scared once before in his immortal existence. And it was a very long time ago. So long that fear had become all but a foreign feeling.
Until now.
He walked past the several rooms before getting to his sleeping quarters. Then be laid her gently down on the bed and simply looked at her.
Never before had be seen such a lovely sight. Her hair was tangled up and her lashes were glued together probably from crying too much. But he still thought of her as the most gorgeous female he'd ever laid his eyes on.
He held her warm hand in his and his teeth clenched. He could feel the nerve at his temple tick. someone had touched her.
Someone had dared!
Humans truly were vile creatures.
He cupped her cheek in his hand. Her skin was as soft as the petals from a Grardur tree.
She was still breathing. But barely. He had not waited for three centuries just to lose her the moment he found her. That was just unacceptable.
He stood and turned to the door. Wondering what was taking the healer so long. Angel Zarek was most likely the fastest angel to have existed. It shouldn't have taken more than five minutes to fly to the village where the healer resided and fly him to the house.
He strode to the door and just as he was about to walk out Oceal , the healer, came in.
"Sire -"
"She's on the bed! " he cut in, pointing to his chosen mate.
Oceal hurried to her. Her long grey gown dragging on the floor behind her. She had been the kingdoms healer for a century. And Nuriel had never required her services till now.
Angels were natural healers. They didn't require any sort of treatment. And although his Doseth was undeniably powerful, she had still been raised among humans. Which was sure to make her vulnerable.
He watched as Oceal checked her. And was relieved that it was a female attending to his mate. He doubted he would have been able to bear another males hands on her. Soon after Oceal left, Nuriel laid in bed next to his Doseth. He raised her back, placing his wing underneath so that she would lay on it.
According to the healer, she was going to be fine. As long as she was taken good care of. Those venomous serpents who had her had been slowly poisoning her.
And they were not bonded yet which meant she could have died. A possibility he chose not to ponder on.
He covered her with the heavy blanket and ran a hand through her hair with gentleness he never thought he possessed.
She smelled of warmth, like the sun when it was at its hottest. It was a scent he found most alluring.
"Is everything alright Sire? " he heard Kalen ask through the mental link he shared with all the Angels of the council. That was Kalen, always considerate.
"She's okay Kalen, tell the others not to worry, " he sent back.
He rarely slept on his bed. Angels didn't require much sleep and he always had too much to do to worry about rest. And tonight he wouldn't sleep either.
How could he dare to do so when the most Captivating being he'd ever seen was lying next to him. He would watch her till she woke. So that he could ensure her that she was safe.
That she was where she belonged.
She slept peacefully but every once in awhile she would stir and turn. He took her hand in his and placed it on his chest.
" Rest calmly.." he gently spoke " I'm here, so just sleep..... M'eudail."
His love... his soul.... his one and only mate.
