First Impressions Don't Always Last

Samantha Curtis is in an arranged marriage with a very handsome rich guy 6 years her senior. On the first meeting, he downright turned the idea down. But circumstances happened and they ended up together with the condition that they shouldn't fall for each other. Can they keep up with it? Hello lovely people! This is my first time writing and I really appreciate it if you can support me and try to give my novel a read. I'll try to publish chapters as regularly as I could! :) P.S. The image I used for my book cover isn't mine. Took it from a free sharing platform and didn't cover the artist's signature.

This Time

As it turns out, Brent and I will be working in the same company. I know right, what a coincidence! Of all the places, and all the companies, we ended in the same place.

Sometimes I wonder if fate is bored and just does random things to people to spice things up. And you'll just have those "Really?!" moments.

Whether it's a good or bad thing, I personally believe that you still have a choice of whether to go with the flow or ride against the current.

Brent and I continued chatting. Also, I had to tell him that Chace and I filed for a divorce and we're just waiting for everything to be finalized. It's an inevitable question anyways so might as well put it out in the open. I thought to myself.

"I wasn't able to reach you after what happened that night. So.. I just want to take this time as well to apologize. I promise I won't get drunk around you anymore and force you on things you don't want." he said with a sincere tone.

"So, can we start all over again-from a clean slate?" He said extending his hand to me.

I took and shook it and he started speaking again.

"I'm Brent Harper. And I really, really like to get to know you more." he continued with a smile.

"Samantha Curtis. It's nice to meet you. I replied smiling back.

Brent is a nice guy but I can't help but be cautious. I don't want to be in the same situation that I just got out off yet again.

So this time, I'll take my time. Well, things are different now. So I can do things at my own pace. And actually get to decide. Most importantly, even if not with Brent, the next one I'll have, will be a genuine relationship.

I deserve that much and won't settle for anything less. Not anymore.

After seven hours of flight, we've finally reached our destination. And I'm so excited just imagining how it's going to be like living in an entirely different, foreign city. I'll always be grateful to Nan for taking me in and making sure I'm well taken care of since the very beginning but I can't help but be proud of myself.

I'm starting my new life from scratch-all entirely from my own skills. Finally living the dream I've put aside. I just never imagined things will turn out like this for me. Two years ago, I was preparing myself for a married life. Who knew it will take a completely different turn?

I shook my head trying to dispel the thought.

"It's nothing more than a distant memory now, Sam." I said to myself.

Going out of the airport, I darted my eyes to Brent.

"See you at work in a couple of days." I said raising my hand in a goodbye.

"See you again a in a few days." he replied back with a smile.

I hailed a taxi to take me to my apartment. On the way there, I looked outside the window taking in the sights. A plethora of landmarks, and lush greens of gardens in a city.

"This is really nice." I thought to myself.

I can't wait to explore this place and submerge myself into everything it has to offer.

I got into the apartment and put my luggages aside. I walked around peeking at every rooms and corners. It's a cute, quaint place. I most especially love that I'll be greeted with the view of the city when I draw the curtains covering the windows.

After resting for a bit, I started unpacking my stuff and putting them in their designated areas. As if on cue, my stomach growled a bit when I finished putting my things away.

"Okay. Which way shall we go tonight? Italian? French?" I said talking to my hungry stomach. I grabbed my bag, my house keys, and my cardigan as it's quite chilly here.

I went out, and down the street is a line of restaurants offering different types of cuisine, cafes, and small specialty shops. It's buzzing with liveliness and interactions from people. I think I'll really love staying in this place. I walked further on as I smiled to myself.

Monday came and I went in for work.

"Welcome, Miss Curtis!" Alicia greeted me.

"Thank you!" I said with a smile.

"Now, I'm so excited to discuss things with you. I'm sure our producers, director, and actors feel the same way." she continued as she led me to another room.

As she opened the door, I was greeted by Brent.

"There you are!" he greeted me enthusiastically coupled with a hug.

"We'll just be waiting for the others to arrive. In the meantime, relax and enjoy some refreshments." Alice said pointing out to the table of coffee, tea, biscuits, and alot more other foods.

"Thank you very much." I said replying with a smile.

Alicia nodded and left the room shortly.

"Wow. I know we'll be in the same workplace. But in the same project too?!" I told Brent.

"Yes! I heard they want to work with new talents for this movie. So this is really good. I mean it's nice to meet new people but being able to work with someone you already know lessens the anxiety, isn't it?" he replied excitedly.

A few minutes later, people started to enter the room one by one. I was trying hard not to look overexcited as some familiar faces started to show up.

The actor-director who's been in countless good movies I loved watching as a kid and even now as an adult. Pretty faces of new and veteran actresses. And the last one to come in - a handsome actor who I first saw on a period drama tv show. He's latest action movie is a good one as well.

He looked at us and smiled before he took his seat.

"Now that everyone's here, let's start the meeting." Alicia, our executive producer started speaking.
