First Impressions Don't Always Last

Samantha Curtis is in an arranged marriage with a very handsome rich guy 6 years her senior. On the first meeting, he downright turned the idea down. But circumstances happened and they ended up together with the condition that they shouldn't fall for each other. Can they keep up with it? Hello lovely people! This is my first time writing and I really appreciate it if you can support me and try to give my novel a read. I'll try to publish chapters as regularly as I could! :) P.S. The image I used for my book cover isn't mine. Took it from a free sharing platform and didn't cover the artist's signature.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hello, may I please speak to Miss Curtis? This is Alicia Smith from the British office of Enthralled Films." she greeted back.

"Yes. Speaking." I replied my heart racing.

"Hi Miss Curtis! I just want to let you know that we got ahold of a copy of your submitted work and we're very much interested to work with you- that is if you'll be willing to fly here to London to start the production." Alicia continued.

My head was spinning with excitement words didn't form out immediately as I wanted them.

"..."

"Miss Curtis?" she asked to check if I'm still on the line.

"Yes! I'll be more than happy to go there." I replied still shaking with surprise.

"Very well then. Further details will be sent to your email shortly. And on behalf of Enthralled, I welcome you to the company. Looking forward to meeting and working with you soon." she said.

"Likewise! Thank you very much!" I replied back.

After the call ended, I immediately turned my laptop on and checked my inbox.

I think I reread the email a thousand times over for it to register in my head. I can't believe it! How a rookie like me has been selected by a big film company. This is such a crazy timing! Not to mention it's overseas as well. If this isn't a sign for me that I'm heading in the right direction, I don't know what is.

"To new beginnings, Sam." I thought to myself with a bittersweet smile.

I shook my head thinking I don't have time to be sentimental. I have a lot of things to fix and prepare.

A few days after my departure date, I decided to call Chace.

"Hello? Mr. Levesque, I've been waiting for you to sign the papers for weeks now. What's the delay?" I said right away after he picked up.

"Sam, do we really have to end things this way? Let's talk in person. How about at lunch today?" he asked.

I rolled my eyes and asked for the address.

"See you in a few hours then." I said ending the phone call.

I walked to the table where Chace was already seated. I looked at him with a blank expression before taking my seat across him.

"This looks familiar." I thought to myself recalling our first meeting. Only now we're here to talk about our divorce. It's crazy how alot of things can happen and change over a period of time. A conflation of things you wish that never ended, and things you wish you felt and didn't feel, and things you wish that never happened at all.

I snapped myself back to the present staring at Chace willing him to talk. At this point, I really don't want to talk to him anymore as much as possible.

"I know I don't have any right to hold you back.. " he started.

"I agree." I replied.

"You don't have any right. And delaying it just spells nothing but selfishness. Everything that you can possibly want from me or anything that I can offer you, you can easily get from someone else. Someone who you actually want to be with and can start a genuine relationship with." I continued.

"Sam.." he called on to me.

I looked at him straight in the eyes. Letting him know I won't go today without getting what I want from him.

"I suppose things can't end in an amicable manner then." he said in defeat running his hand through his hair.

"I no longer have any hang-ups with you. But I'm also not interested in being friends with someone that will have nothing to do with me once I walk out of their door." I replied matter of factly.

With what I said, Chace sighed and took out the papers. Signed it and handed it to me.

"Thank you." I said curtly.

I then stood up and walked away- not sparing even a single glance back at him.

I might seem really rude and heartless but I can't bring myself to be pleasant. Most break ups are ugly and it sure didn't help our case that we both just used each other in ways more than one.

I really hate how it ended. But some things can't be helped. I just have to take it as it is and move on with the experience. This experience that I will not let happen again.

As things with Chace are already settled, I can already concentrate with getting ready. I didn't tell him anything about leaving and setting a new career. Not that he needs to know about what's going to happen with my life.

We also decided that he's the one to break the news to his family.

"I don't know how this will turn out." he said in a message.

"It's bound to happen no matter what. Considering that this is only a two-year thing. At least in their eyes, we really tried. Maybe they'll understand. Just break it more gently to Nan." I replied.

I sighed and pried my eyes away from my phone after sending the message. I look at the screen and checked for my flight details before checking in.

New place, new job, and in a month or so... divorced. Alot happening all at once but I need to rise on top of it.

I boarded the plain and settled in my chair after fixing my bag in the overhead cabin. I stared outside the window, lost in thought.

"I hope I'm the one you're thinking about." said a familiar voice.

I turned to my side and saw Brent looking at me with a big smile. I stared at him trying to process what's going on.

"I'll be based in London now. Figured out I better widen my horizon. How about you? Going for a vacation?" he asked.

"No. Work actually." I replied realizing nobody from work know about what happened yet except for Mabel who didn't stop bugging me until I told her why I resigned from the job.

"Really?!" Brent's eyes are wide with surprise and his excitement palpable.

"Tell me more about it. We have a long flight ahead of us anyways." he continued with a smile.
