Finding The Light

He was standing alone behind his door, staring unseeingly out of the dusty window. He was a man who was at home in a dozen capitals of the world, but Victoria falls was one of his favourite towns, Victoria Falls is a town in western Zimbabwe and a gateway to the massive waterfall, he loved the view. His waiting had the patience of a hunter, the quiet stillness of a man in control of his body and his emotions. He is dark and has the stormy good looks of his ancestors. He had dark hair and a strong face, he has quick intelligent eyes that were deep blue. He was over six feet tall, with the lean muscular body of a man who kept himself in good physical condition. The parlour was filled with dirt, and almost everything was scattered on the floor. "Why do they keep doing this, believe me when I say I desperately want to leave this town, seems we are always the dartboard" Mrs Patience said this with a groaning frown as she bent to pick her favourite video tape which was almost destroyed. Beauty just waking up came out quickly to the parlour, the noise in the parlour carried her up"What!!" ``Beauty shouted. Something in her mind seemed to freeze, and it was as if there was a thin veil between her and reality. Her father's voice brought her back to reality " Clean up, this is not the first time it has happened to us," Mr. Eze said while cleaning his radio. The first time our house was robbed, it was our Neighbour Emmanuel who climbed in through the parlour window and stole our TV, and some of my dad's favourite videotapes. This was unexpected as the robbers broke in last night very quietly, without making a sound to send alarm to those sleeping inside. It took about 2 hours to clean up the mess they did, they nevertheless continued their daily activities, Beauty was almost done with secondary school while her younger brother Victor just entered secondary school. The preparation for school was hurried since the clean up consumed most of the time. Mrs. Patience, the wife of Mr. Eze, is a teacher of a small school down the street. Both are the beautiful couple that raised Beauty and Victor. Everyone was set to go except Mr. Eze,he stays at home most of the time, doesn't have a job at the moment but he was searching for one to support his family. The traffic was horrendous, but it was always horrendous at this time of the day, rush hour. God, she hated those words. Especially today. She clapped the palm of her hand on the horn and muttered under her breath "C'mon you jerk, move"

The Injuries

"Sweetie, please let me be, I think I'm going to visit my ancestors now" Me. Eze said, readjusting himself on the mat to his convenience and comfortability and not opening his eyes or even facing Beauty. He just muttered these words.

"Oh wow!, ``So soon?" Beauty asked sarcastically.

"Beauty, just leave your dad. He's just being lazy, that's all" Mrs. Patience said from across the room, waving the issue aside.

"Yes, I see. But before you visit your ancestors daddy, remember what mummy said" Beauty said, raising her han up in the air and walking towards mum

"What did your mummy say?" Mr. Eze asked confused as he managed to open his eyes halfway

"Oh dad, you must be kidding me. How can you say you've forgotten what Mummy said she would do so soon?" Beauty was surprised, almost startled at this.

"My dear, it's old age. You won't blame me" Mr. Eze said in support for himself.

"Oh really dad? Maybe I'll take that for an answer but just know, you can't visit your ancestors yet" Beauty said, still trying to pester her father.

"Yes, and don't tell him why" Mrs. Patience said from her end

"Oh Christ! You people should tell me why now! I'm exhausted and I had I long day" Mr. Eze was pissed at their mind games but still did not want to get up

"Sorry dad, but now it's on mum's orders"Beauty said again, raising her hands up even if she didn't feel sorry at all and would not have told him anyway had her mother permitted.

...…

Beauty did not find anything to did for he mum and she was asked to just wait around, which she dis. Beauty played games on her mum's phone as she waited for her mum's instructions. Mr. Eze was battling with drowsiness and it got so funny at a point that Beauty had it recorded in a footage.

....

"Alright baby girl, go to the bathroom and wash you hands so I can tend to your wounds, then your father comes next" Mrs. Patience waled over to her and instructed her one she finished fixing up what she wanted to with regards to the first aid kit.

"Sure , okay mum" Beauty said as she put the phone down and got up for the bathroom.

"Yes and don't lock yourself in there again, else you might just spend the night or nights there" Mrs. Patience said, trying to seem funny as she referred and feel back to the incident some minutes ago.

"Ha-ha, so funny mum" Beauty said sarcastically, though she truly did not find it funny and of course she couldn't be angry at her mum in the point in time.

"You think?" Mrs. Patience asks, trying to act serious

She chuckles and says

"Well hurry on now " Mrs. Patience says as she used her hand to gesture out the curtain

"Ok mum. Dad, did you hear her now?" Beauty asked, knowing his consciousness state but still asked, possibly her motive could be to wake him up with her voice.

Mr. Eze was sleeping with his mouth open.

Mrs. Patience asked her to let him be and then whispered something into her ears. They both giggled and Beauty left for the bathroom. She walked so slowly and carefully, it was almost as if she creeped or tiptoed.

She got to the bathroom and started washing her hands in the sink. It hurt because of the cut.

She raised her head and thought.

"See how happy we all are. I wish it could remain the same forever"

Then she looked around clasped her hands together, raising them to the ceiling as she looked up, closed her eyes and said

"God, it is your daughter, Beauty. God I am here to beg for something. God, please even if you don't elevate us or take away our financial instability, please sustain my mummy and take away whatever is giving her pains and what ever sickness is in her.

God, I know I have sinned against you countless times, knowingly and unknowingly but please, I beg you, forgive me. Forgive all of us and keep my mum alive. I promise that if you do this for me, I will try to make life in this family, filled with you and your ways. Please God, your humble servant girl is pleading with tears rolling down her cheeks. Please look into my heart, look upon my pains. Wipe my tears. I know you will do this for me. Thank you father. Amen"

She drops her head down, wipes her tears, finishes washing off her hands and walks out humming gospel songs.

She walks halfway and then remembers what her mum told her to do. It made her smirk. She ran back, fetched a cup full of water and ran gently because she couldn't wait to see the ouycome of what was going to happen and still, she didn't want to spil a drop. She was also careful not to trip and fall or step on any of the broken glass pieces.

She arrived at the room with everything still intact - Thank Goodness! Was she got to the curtain, her mum motioned for her stop step and keep it down, as her father was still fast asleep.

She tiptoed in again and handed the water over to her mother. Her mother took the water, she was startled at the quantity but Beauty just giggled.

Mrs. Patience poured the water on her husband's face. He woke up so swiftly. He gargled some water woke.

"What on earth is the meaning of this!" Mr. Eze got up and yelled so furiously

"What kind of games are you goi playing?" Mr. Eze turned to look at Beauty as he's was fuming.

He wanted to be furious but then seeing his wife and daughter acting remorsefully. They were the real depiction and explanation of a six-year-old that was in real, deep trouble and was about to get spanked.
