Finding The Light

He was standing alone behind his door, staring unseeingly out of the dusty window. He was a man who was at home in a dozen capitals of the world, but Victoria falls was one of his favourite towns, Victoria Falls is a town in western Zimbabwe and a gateway to the massive waterfall, he loved the view. His waiting had the patience of a hunter, the quiet stillness of a man in control of his body and his emotions. He is dark and has the stormy good looks of his ancestors. He had dark hair and a strong face, he has quick intelligent eyes that were deep blue. He was over six feet tall, with the lean muscular body of a man who kept himself in good physical condition. The parlour was filled with dirt, and almost everything was scattered on the floor. "Why do they keep doing this, believe me when I say I desperately want to leave this town, seems we are always the dartboard" Mrs Patience said this with a groaning frown as she bent to pick her favourite video tape which was almost destroyed. Beauty just waking up came out quickly to the parlour, the noise in the parlour carried her up"What!!" ``Beauty shouted. Something in her mind seemed to freeze, and it was as if there was a thin veil between her and reality. Her father's voice brought her back to reality " Clean up, this is not the first time it has happened to us," Mr. Eze said while cleaning his radio. The first time our house was robbed, it was our Neighbour Emmanuel who climbed in through the parlour window and stole our TV, and some of my dad's favourite videotapes. This was unexpected as the robbers broke in last night very quietly, without making a sound to send alarm to those sleeping inside. It took about 2 hours to clean up the mess they did, they nevertheless continued their daily activities, Beauty was almost done with secondary school while her younger brother Victor just entered secondary school. The preparation for school was hurried since the clean up consumed most of the time. Mrs. Patience, the wife of Mr. Eze, is a teacher of a small school down the street. Both are the beautiful couple that raised Beauty and Victor. Everyone was set to go except Mr. Eze,he stays at home most of the time, doesn't have a job at the moment but he was searching for one to support his family. The traffic was horrendous, but it was always horrendous at this time of the day, rush hour. God, she hated those words. Especially today. She clapped the palm of her hand on the horn and muttered under her breath "C'mon you jerk, move"

The Convictions

The Convictions

"Oh please mum! Don't lie to me, I'm not a kid. You can't toy with my head or emotions that way. It's not fair. And sooner or later, Victor will find out" Beauty told the straight and proper. She wasn't up for mind games or beating about the bush. She was just there to grab the bull by the horns which she was already doing

"Oh!...you know what sweetheart, come outside so we can talk proper" Mrs. Patience tried to grab this Opportunity and to use it to her advantage well..

"No! I want to stay in her where I can shut myself out of the world and lifebit total because it's being really unfair to me. I feel like dying" Beauty said as she grew more sober and shed more and more tears.

"Oh My Queen, what would I do if you did?.Please stop saying things like that. And stop crying, I told you, Beautiful Queens don't cry" Mrs. Patience was still trying her best to make Beauty come out and feel better

"When beautiful queens don't have a reason for joy, they cry and I promise you mum, if you leave me, I won't hesitate to take my life the next second" Beauty said firmly and you could tell it was a struggle for her

Mrs. Patience gasped because she knew it was inevitable for her, and she didn't want her daughter thinking or talking that way because she knew Beauty was a strong girl but also a devoted girl who lived by her words no matter what.

Mr. Eze embraced her in a tight hug. She covered herself in his warm embrace as the gentle tears that streamed from here eyes wet his shirt while he battled for strength within because the thought if loosing his life partner also hit him hard but he tried to out himself in her shoes and see how hard it was for her too.

.....

They was a tank of water in the bathroom, since they couldn't get water supply and had to bear buckets and bowls on their heads to fetch water for the house.

Beauty engulfed her face in the water, forgetting the essence of life. She raised her head later on and thought

"Am I ready to lose mum?"

"No of course!"

She pressed her ears against the door, but sofoy since it was one of those cheap, low quality wood works.

She heard her mum crying profusely.

...…

"Will they ever forgive me for leaving them?" Mrs. Patience said with her head still down as she was so miserable and engulfed in sadness.

"Don't say that! No one is leaving anyone? We are going to be a family together forever and please, this is just a tide we need to be strong and handle as a family. We'll scale through I promise.

Don't work yourself up" Mr. Eze was doing a great job in his encouragement and reassurance even though he needed alot of it. He put their needs over his. He hid his inner sadness and tears

"Thank you hunny. I love you. You always manage to give Me the daily dose of encouragement I need to keep pushing through. I hope we do scale through "Mrs. Patience was gradually coming back to life as she too was hoping for life and decided to give her hope a firm grip

"Yes hunny. No need to thank me. Remember the day we took our vows to stand my each other no matter what, in sickness and health? I always try to look past things to the joy on that day and I'm just doing my job as a husband.

Besides, you have done way more for me and I can't imagine a life without you, so we will scale through and I'm sure of it. Have faith!" Mr. Eze continued his assurance and trues to hold on to that too.

"Thank you hunny. I love you with all my heart and I will stand strong and fight this to the end because of you " Mrs. Patience now assured him. The thoughts of the nurse's assuring words 'You will be fine ' and not his coupled with the urge to strive for her kids motivetef her to say that confidently and comfortably

"Thank you for that assurance, it really means more than alot. And I promise to stand by you in this fight as well. I will also assist you in every way humanly possible and within my reach and Power limit. I love you too" Mr. Eze was happy she was griping hope now, and now was getting hope from her brightened self.

He kissed her forehead and hugged her again. She was genuinely smiling this time around as they stayed outside the bathroom door.

Writer's POV

Despite old, their love was still very strong.

...….

Beauty heard this and was genuinely touched.

"Encouragement? Support? That is what mum needs. I'm not being a good daughter. I'm working mum up. Have faith. She won't leave me and I will help her stand strong and defeat this illness. She loves me and I love her. Love surpasses all" she thought aloud

Beauty convicted and agreed within herself to come out.

She opened the door and saw them outside.

Mrs. Patience was surprised but happy to see her and she hurriedly said

"I'm really sorry mum. I worked you up. You should be resting. I'm not being a good daughter. I was just overwhelmed please …

Mrs. Patience left Mr. Eze's grip and went to put her index on Beauty's lips as she cut her short shushed her "Shoosh!"

"Don't say anything again, I understand" Mrs. Patience looked at her daughter tenderly as though it was the day she was born

They embraced in a tight hug. Mr. Eze stood behind them smiling satisfactorily.

Beauty said "I love you mummy" She was so passionate and didn't want to let go of Mrs. Patience. Tears streamed down her cheek bones as she was in this atmosphere
