Chapter 66

Lia stared angrily at him. Doctor Carl held up a small note for her to see, then placed it under a potted plant on the flowerbed. He left only after confirming she'd seen him.

She slowly let go of the windowsill, which left red streaks on her palms. She wanted nothing more than to run down and grab the note, but Pipi and the other attendants were still tidying up.

Lia paced the length of her window until the clock tower rang midnight and the lights went off downstairs. Pipi was a light sleeper, but she'd been sleeping far more soundly since the war ended.

The glow of the lamp wavered in the night breeze. Lia threw on a thick coat as she crept outside, anxiously peering for any suspicious shadows.

What did he mean by 'It's time'?
